Chapter 10 Base Avalon

“I don’t get it Kyle, why exactly are we going on this mission? Being on a mission with Riles, is like going somewhere with a blind guy. The guy can’t hit his goal for shit.” He was right but if what the general is claiming is true then he is doing it on purpose for a reason. “We’re going simply for backup, to make sure he hits his goal. Just promise me something Johnny.” “Tell Samantha if you don’t make it back you love her so much blah blah blah, you know i'll tell her for you.” “That too, but this time if anything goes sideways just trust me ok?” “Kyle man, how long have i known you? Have I ever not trusted you?” Johnny was my best friend since birth, born at the same time, lived in the same complex, trained together with the same goal of becoming top rank as possible but of course i out rank him. He made it to sergeant but gave up after that, too much hassle he says. Either way if there was somebody id go out in a life or death situation it’d be him. “Finally we’ve been waiting here for at least thirty minutes. You two couldn’t move any faster.” When we arrived at the gate Riles friend Erwin was already scolding us. “Cool your turbine blades ErWInG, you’re more annoying than my mom telling me to clean my room.” “What did you say dirtbag?” “I said-” “Are you girls done?” The general was standing there with his arms folded across his chest like an annoyed dad. We all suddenly snapped to attention. “At ease. Riles is in charge of this mission Tank, you back up if needed. The chopper is loaded with medical supplies and emergency parachutes. They’ve all been properly tested and everything should be in order for your arrival. Riles, i know you don’t particularly get along with Tank but for the sake if the mission, Do Not f**k it up because of your petty rivarlies. Do I make myself clear?” “Crystal general, crystal.” Riles looked at me with a sinister smirk on his face. “Dismissed.” When we all started to board the chopper I was last to board. General grabbed my arm and made eye contact with me before nodding his head and letting go.  The Helicopter ride seemed pretty awkward. The whole time Erwin and Johnny stared each other down as if they were about to jump at each other's throats. “Easy Erwin you’ll get a fighting chance soon enough. So Kyle, why'd the general really last minute switch old Bernie with you and this clown? He afraid we couldn’t handle it?” “Can you ever handle your missions Hunter? You seem to screw them up every chance you get, but if i’m here what could possibly go wrong?” “Hmmm you know me and my trusted partner versus you and yours, i think i like the sound of that. Although i think we’ll see who’s better at the end of this mission.”  I didn’t like the sound of that one bit. I turned to johnny and gave him the be on your toes look because whatever they have in store couldn’t possibly be good for anybody. We finally arrived at Base Avalon after a One hour and 30 minute flight, and we were immediately greeted by a very short woman and a tall guy who didn’t seem to be military.  “So Staulch sends his son of all people to escort me to Alexandria? Typical.” “How do you know i am, his-” “Amazingly you look just like him, i never thought such a bast-” “Ahem, Gordo we talked about this.” “She looked back at him and then back at us before walking off mumbling to herself and the guy that was next to her followed behind her closely. “My apologies Young staulch-” “Riles, call me Riles. “Sorry young Riles, Gordo is very excited to be going to Alexandria as our speaker.” “I was under the impression that Gordo was a man.” “Did your father not tell you?” There was a look on Riles face that gave off concern, and when I looked at the guy he seemed nervous to be standing here talking. “I’m sorry are you the head council here?” I had to ask. “Ah my apologies, I am councilman Rook I am head here as you say. Please we have much to discuss. Brook here will take you to the guest quarters and then we can discuss departure over dinner?”  “Riles was still standing there with concern before Erwin answered for him.” “Yea sounds great, we’ll have our partners here take our sacks to the guest quarters and you can give us a tour or something.” I saw him budge Riles shoulder before he snapped out of it and they started walking with the councilman. “Can you believe that asshole? Leaving us here to grab the bags. What are we the slaves?” As Johnny complained I couldn't help but notice something was a little different about this place as if it were a place from medieval times.
