Chapter 1
Alivia POV
How could he do such a thing to me? How could he have deceived me in this way, knowing how much I have come to love him?
No!
I remember how much I used to love him but not anymore. This is obviated one-sided love, and just as there is no beginning, there is no end to this misery. Especially not this type of pain - being rejected by my mate.
It was last at night, as after a rough week, I was deep sleeping when I was startled by the sound of footsteps entering my chamber.
Who might be up at this last hour? My sleepy eyes landed on the wall clock, the only illuminated area of the room.
As a kid, I loved to sleep in the dark, but after one faithful night, I always leave a part of the room lit — the door.
The footsteps grew stronger and fast approaching my room. I had fully opened my eyes now; I could hear them mumbling some inaudible words and could tell by the sound of the steps that there were about twenty of them.
This is a skill I learned from my late father. As the only child and the future heiress to the Alpha throne, I was trained to be strong. However, with my mate, Satchel Rune had become my weakness and indeed made me weak.
My wolf, Arya, hinted me to run, but I wanted to see his face one more time. That face I loathe so much. That face that snatched my parents from me, I badly want to see it again.
Unfortunately, as one of the men knocked down the door with a strong kick, I got a glimpse of his face, but he was not the one I hoped to see.
“Run!” Arya yelled at me, and I sprang out of the bed and jumped out of the room through the window.
The men rushed at me, following me to the window at the speed of light and I had barely escaped from them. The one who seemed to the leader of the gang leaned against the window and watched me as I moaned in pain, struggling to get up.
Our eyes locked, and a cunning smirk played in his lips — it was as if he enjoyed seeing me wince in pain.
“Get her!” He growled in a deep roar, gritting his teeth while the others yelled, rushing out of the room.
I made a beeline for the woods, running as fast as my legs could carry me. But I was too weak, or should I say I have grown too weak? Different thoughts ran through my mind as I ran for my dear life with no idea who those people were.
Could it be from ten years ago? Could it be that I have made myself a new enemy? What do these men want from me?
As if all these pains I had gone through during the week was not enough, the Moon Goddess, Arielle, has to allow this?
Isn't she a god? Isn't she supposed to protect me?
There will be no bloodline of the Alpha family if I die now. I certainly can't give up on myself, not now.
I halted and hid behind a considerable tree, memories of rejection hit me again......
Three days ago, was supposed to be the best day of my life but apparently, it turned out to be the exact opposite.
I was in my room, seated in front of a mirror, while I smiled softly at the beauty the mirror reflected. Maids trooped in and out of my room, everyone busy with one thing or another.
Why won't they be?
It's the day of my coronation as the Luna and my mate, Satchel Rune, as the Alpha.
Though by birth, I'm supposed to be the Alpha, but I'm in love with Satchel and I think it would be best and kind of him to take the responsibility off my shoulders.
“Oh my gosh!” Veena, my younger sister, exclaimed as she stepped into the room, dressed in a beautiful peach-colored ball dress. “You look amazingly gorgeous, Princess.” She complimented when she had moved closer to me.
I could see her from the corner of the mirror as she stood behind me. She had a little makeup on her face, she had always been beautiful.
“Today will be the end of you addressing me as that.” I teased with a tiny smile, referring to “Princess.”
“Of course, today is also a big day for me. I can't wait to stop addressing you as a princess.” She responded in a serious tone and a sly grin that marred her face.
I guess she didn't notice that I was looking at her through the mirror.
“You are fully dressed, Your Highness, and the Pack Brick Rock, awaits you as our Luna.” Nia, the head of the maids and also my favorite maid, said cheerfully with a smile.
“Sure,” I responded with a slight nod, still staring at myself in the mirror.
I got up, retreated from the room and stepped out of the house with Veena by my side.
One would have mistaken her as the bride by how gorgeously and how brightly she smiled. But I didn't see that as a threat, after all, she is happy that her sister is finally getting married.
The hall was warmly decorated to my taste, and solemn music played in the background as I walked down the aisle. The guests who were already seated welcomed us with a warm smile as we walked past them to the altar.
Veena had been there for me since we lost my parents, so I allowed her to walk me down the aisle. After all, I have nobody to do that for me.
My eyes were glued on Satchel as memories of how we met hit me.
It was the summer of the year 1997, and I was hunting on the Royal land when he ran in, seeking for help.
Though he looked messy and homeless, I saw through him and when Arya screamed “mate”, I couldn't contain my joy.
“Save him,” I said to the guards who had drawn out their swords against him.
Satchel looked like a little rat in the midst of wild cats and his eyes shifted to me, his eyes pleaded for help.
"Help me," he mouthed softly.
“Save him,” I repeated with authority surging through my voice.
“Yes, Your highness.” They chorused and withdrew their swords.
However, because it was a Royal land, nobody dares step on it.
Of course, except for Satchel, who piqued my interest. Also, from the way he looked at me surprised; I could tell that he also felt the mate bond.
He bowed and two of the guards took him to the Palace. For the past two years, of knowing Satchel, never had he behaved like a rogue, though he is a rogue.
Rogues in Brick Rock are assumed to be evil, predators and wicked, but Satchel proved me wrong; he was the opposite of whatever I thought a rogue to be.
I can't believe I'm finally getting married to him.
A smile twitched on my lips, smiling at the only man I have ever loved.
I sat in front of the front row with Veena, smiling at him, which he smiled back at me, whispering, “I love you.”
My cheeks flushed, instantly red as a tomato.
The Priest stood up from the other side of the front row and mounted the platform, the guests cheered.
“Good afternoon to you all, and welcome to this grand event of ours. A day of a new Alpha's ascend.......” His gaze met Satchel's, then mine. “And his Luna.”
A blush tinted my cheeks, red as a tomato.
Our relationship as couples was not news to the members of the Pack.
“Prince Satchel has proven himself worthy of this position since the demise of our late Alpha. And now is the moment to crown him Alpha.” The priest concluded with a smile that spread across the guest.
We all stood to our feet as the Satchel mounted the platform; he walked up the platform in a morning coat, well-tailored to his masculine size, his eyes scanned the guest and landed on me. And the Moon Priest crowned Satchel the Alpha.
Roars of excitement filled the air for a moment, and we all sat down to let Satchel address his newly assigned pack.
His face twitched as if he wanted to tell me something, but I couldn't place it; the excitement within me was enough to last the day.
“I want to appreciate all who bestowed this honor upon today, as well as the council members who stood by me, and my beautiful mate, Alivia,” His voice cracked as he called my name.
“And to crown my Luna.......” He paused.
A little air of curiosity hung in the air, but all eyes turned to me, knowing I was the rightful choice.
“Get up, Luna.” Veena urged with a beaming smile.
I stood, ready to walk to him and hold him in my gaze forever.
“My Luna is Venna.” He announced and shifted his gaze from me to her.
A soft gasp of confusion spread wild through the guests.
I could feel my heart being ripped away from him, my feet failed to carry my weight and I fell to the floor.
“Your Highness,” I heard Nia call out.
The world around me faded into blurriness and shadow of nothing left as I stumbled into unconscious.
