Prologue
The sun bathed the Blackthorne House and its surrounding territory in a golden glow, casting long shadows that danced in the gentle breeze. Inside the grand mansion, Alpha Christopher, Jason's father, and Lily's mother Morgan gathered in a solemn meeting room, the weight of their discussion heavy in the air.
"We cannot afford to delay any longer," High Priestess Morgan said, her voice carrying a sense of urgency. "Alpha Giles already suspects Lilly is the chosen child of the Goddess. He has studied the scrolls. She will be the most powerful Omega in 17 generations. She WILL unite the packs, and we must take action to protect Lily's future. This way he can’t petition the council to make her is Omega. It will be incontestable.
Jason's father, Alpha Christopher, nodded in agreement, his features set in a grim expression. "Alpha Giles has made his intentions clear. He sees Lily as nothing more than a pawn in his quest for power."
With a shared understanding of the looming danger, they moved swiftly to sign the betrothal contract, sealing Lily's destiny with the Blackthorne pack and safeguarding her from Alpha Giles' machinations.
As the ink dried on the parchment, both the seal of the Moon Godess Temple and the Seal of Alpha Blackthorne cementing Lilly’s betrothal to Jason, the entirety of the territory gathered in the gardens of the mansion to celebrate the union of their future leaders. Underneath a canopy of white roses, Alpha Christopher stood proudly beside Jason, his heir, while Lily's mother performed the rites that would bind the 2 together. He beamed with pride. Lilly gazing up at her mother’s swirling hands and she mixed the sacred herbs and then sprinkled them on Lilly’s head. “What is bound by the Goddess cannot be torn asunder.”
The guests mingled and danced, their laughter blending with the soft strains of music that filled the air. Lily, oblivious to the weight of the betrothal contract that had just been signed in her name, laughed and played in her mother's arms, her innocence a stark contrast to the tension that lingered among the adults.
But amidst the celebration, there was an undercurrent of determination, a silent vow to protect Lily at all costs. And as the stars began to twinkle overhead, casting a warm glow over the gathering, a sense of unity and purpose filled the hearts of the Blackthorne pack, heralding the beginning of a new era for their lineage.
The celebration had ended, and the guests had departed, leaving behind a serene quietness that settled over the Blackthorne Mansion. Underneath a canopy on the deck, both families gathered for a private discussion. The setting sun painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, casting a warm glow over the scene.
Lily's mother cradled her daughter in her arms, the child humming absently as she played with a small flower. The atmosphere was tense as Alpha Christopher, Jason, and Lily's mother sat in a semi-circle, facing the reality of the betrothal.
Alpha Christopher broke the silence, his voice steady but filled with concern. "We've taken the first step to protect Lily by signing the betrothal contract. But we must be clear on the dynamics of their relationship as she grows."
Lily's mother the High Priestess nodded. "We agree. Lily's betrothal to Jason must remain a secret until her 20th birthday. Until then, Jason should be her trusted friend and protector, guiding her without revealing the true nature of their bond."
Jason shifted uncomfortably, a frown marring his features. "With all due respect, I understand the necessity, but it feels strange. How can I be expected to form a bond with her when she doesn't even know who I am? Shouldn't I be focusing on my training and political strategies instead of babysitting?"
Alpha Christopher's gaze hardened slightly, but his voice remained calm. "Jason, your role as her protector is just as important as your training. By being close to her, you ensure that she remains safe from threats like Alpha Giles."
Lily's mother looked down at her daughter, her eyes soft with love and worry. "Lily needs someone she can trust as she grows, someone who will be there for her without any ulterior motives. You can be that person for her, Jason."
Jason sighed, his frustration evident. "I just want what's best for our pack and for Lily. But it's hard to see how this is the right path. She deserves to have a normal childhood, free from the burden of our decisions."
Lily's mother placed a reassuring hand on Jason's shoulder. "We understand your concerns, Jason. And we share them. But this is the only way to protect her from Alpha Giles and others who might seek to exploit her. Your bond with Lily will grow naturally over time, and when the moment is right, she'll understand why this was necessary.”
