Awakening
Jamey yawned and stretched out in her bed, today was a good day, she was now officially 21 years old, and life couldn't be any better. She slowly sat up and turned her alarm off, it's always going off and annoying her, she sighed and got out of bed. Time to face her Mother, she had ultimately decided her daughter deserved a massive party with over a hundred people; not that Jamey minded, she was used to her Mother's over the top personality.
She wandered over to her close, "what to wear on my special day?" She pondered briefly before settling on a black mini skirt with fish-net leggings and her favorite Linkin Park tank top with a leather jacket, she sat down at her desk and decided to try and use make-up again. Jamey hadn't learned the art of make-up like her sister Katie who was 35 and beyond gorgeous with flowing black hair and perfect olive toned skin with striking blue eyes. Jamey sighed, she looked plain compared to Katie, unlike her, Jamey had creamy skin with long black hair that was thick and curly, she also had wider eyes, they were a darker hazel or black when she was angry. She slowly applied her mascara and her eyeliner, it was almost time.
She got up and grabbed her bag, she practically ran down her apartment steps to her car, she was excited to get to school. Her school was actually a University, one that was for "gifted students" not that it meant she was special, her IQ was just higher than the average person and doctors were baffled at how fast she learned and adapted, she was walking by 10 months, she was talking by 1, she excelled at any sport or task she was given and even her Mother couldn't explain that.
Jamey groaned and struggled to get her old '99 Taurus working, it always had a new issue it seems and she spent more money fixing it than anything else, "Maybe Mother finally got me that motorcycle I always wanted." She chuckled, yeah right, her Mother hated anything that had less than 4 wheels, she said they were riding death traps and her daughter wouldn't find herself on one as long as she was kicking and breathing.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity, the Taurus decided to start itself up, the loud muffler echoed within the apartment parking lot, she really had to fix that before she got another complaint. Her landlord was caring but only he could take so many complaints, from the loud music, to the wild women she often had over for a night or two, the landlord was getting upset more and more. She had to be more careful she thought as she carefully turned out into the beautiful Los Angeles sky, she loved California, she loved the beautiful views, the swaying palm trees and most of all, she loved the smells of California, the smell of the ocean was her favorite, she had been going to the ocean since before she could talk.
She joined the other workers on the highway that seemed to stretch on for miles, she wouldn't need to travel that far but she wished she could. Jamey was tired of it all, the same repeat life, that's why she was so excited for her 21st birthday, because that was the day her Mother promised her a year trip to Europe. She smiled at the thought of that, however, her thoughts were soon interrupted by her cell phone going off, Machine Gun Kelly "Let You Go" was playing as her ringtone, she picked up her phone and smiled, her best friend Mike was calling.
Mike was her best friend, he was also transgendered, he used to go by Alice of all names but at the age of 10 he knew that he wasn't supposed to be a girl, after multiple surgeries and medications he was now 24 and looked like a regular man.
"Heeeyy best friend!" Jamey giggled into the phone.
"There's my birthday girl! I see you're running a little late again aren't you?" Mike chuckled, he always knew she wasn't on time for anything.
"Oh hush, I shouldn't even have to go to school on today of all days, this is my birthday! More importantly it's my 21st birthday, and you know what that means!" Jamey groaned.
"Yes, yes, I know, Anna spared no expense trust me but if you really don't want to go to school, how about you decide to ditch and come get me, I vote we go to the little Chinese place you love so much." Jamey could hear Mike's excitement.
"Yes! Thank Goddess, you're my hero." Jamey laughed and hung up, she knew where he was so there was no need for an address.
Turning off at the next exit she flew down several side roads until she pulled up to a large building with high fences, also known as Mike's apartment complex, it wasn't the safest but he liked it. She pulled up and honked twice and she sighed, he really never was ready, she leaned back and looked out the window and that's when she saw her, the most gorgeous woman she had ever seen in her life, she was at least 5'8" with long red hair and beautiful pale skin. She was casually sitting on a bench reading a book it seemed, Jamey couldn't see what it was but it seemed important because she was all by hyper focused on it. Jamey felt a strange feeling in her stomach and she felt a sudden urge to run over there and grab her and kiss her. Jamey quickly looked away and waited again for Mike but something wasn't right, that feeling wouldn't go away, if anything it was getting stronger and this time she heard something.
"MINE"
She jerked up and looked around but saw no one, the woman was also gone now and she looked around for her, but she wasn't there and for some reason Jamey felt her heart break. She jumped again when she heard a knock on her window but it was only Mike, she unlocked her door and he slid in and gave her a huge bear sized hug.
"Happy Birthday Princess."
Jamey laughed, "Oh stop, we aren't kids anymore, there's no need to call me princess!"
Mike didn't laugh, he just sighed and looked out the window, "So, how are you feeling today?"
"I'm fine, and you?"
"I'm just confused, remember Jake...?"
Jamey frowned, "Yeah, the gay stripper that abused you for months, what about him..."
Mike sighed, "Well... he showed up the other day, he's been to rehab and he says he's changed and he still loves me and wants to make this work, and I can't say for sure but I really think he's changed for me Jamey, I don't know, I love him so much."
"Really Mike? 3 months of hard therapy to get that r****t out of your mind and heart and the first chance you get... you throw yourself back into the loop?" Jamey rolled her eyes.
Mike was a good guy, he just had horrible choices in men. Jake by far the worst he's ever been with. At first they seemed like the average gay couple, they laughed, they had fun, their life was seemingly good, but everyone has a bad side and Jake's was his drug use, heavy drug use. He usually used heroin but lately he found the money was in meth and cocaine and this led to angry and often violent outbursts and poor Mike was trying to help his lover and paid the price. Jake held him hostage for 2 months and abused him and r***d him multiple times a day, he was finally caught by police and he was forced to reveal where Mike was. Mike was in shambles for what seemed like forever, and finally Jamey stepped in and offered an intense psycho therapy plan that would eliminate the love for Jake, and until now, it was working.
"Well Jamey, the thing is... when you find someone you're meant to be with, you just know and you try and try to make to work because you love them so much you can't imagine a life without them." Mike sighed and held her hand, he really meant what he said.
Jamey shook his hand off and glared at him, "Mike, this is insane, he r***d you... WHY would you even consider him?"
"You mean like Bella? She was a really good one too right?" Mike snarled suddenly.
Jamey hit the brakes and whipped the Taurus over, of course the whole car groaned and shuddered and she gritted her teeth, the last thing she wanted was her car breaking down too. She threw it in park and turned to Mike,
"Listen well Mike, I love you, you're my best friend. However, you have no right to bring up Bella, she's dead... leave her at peace.."
"Oh you mean like how she left you at peace? She hired 4 guys to gang r**e you and then pretended to rush in and save you... that's sick and twisted and if you ask me, she should've burned at the stake instead of being shot by police." Mike sneered.
Jamey sat back, shocked by his words, something was definitely up with Mike, he never acted this angry and aggressive and as she looked into his now black eyes she saw it and she knew in that moment why he was acting so off and why he was so angry, Mike was on something.
"Mike, what are you taking..."
Mike growled low in his chest, "I don't know what you mean..."
Jamey sighed, "Mike, get out of the car, I'm very late for school..."
Mike's eyes were instantly back to his blue/green color, "Wait what? No, please don't leave, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap, I'm just under stress!"
"Mike, I'm not stupid, you're using again."
Jamey knew all too well the effects of drugs as she had dabbled with them before and it wasn't a pleasant experience for her. She knew that Mike had suffered addiction issues before and Jake was well known for making Mike do things he never would normally do, like using drugs that he would have never touched.
Mike sat back and sighed, "Yeah, so me and Jake did some lines, what's the big issue? You smoke weed."
Jamey laughed, "I smoke weed to control my anger, you and Jake want to party hardcore and never sleep. That's why I hate him, he changes you and not for the better. I don't want to see you as long as you're using with him.."
Mike looked like he was going to cry, "No, please don't leave me... I'll go to rehab, I'll fix myself I promise!"
"No Mike, get out of the car, you made a promise to everyone and the second he comes back, you broke it without a single thought. So, no, get out of my car and don't contact me unless it's from rehab." Jamey unlocked her car to reinforce her words.
Mike sat there and she thought he would protest or get angry, instead he looked down and slowly got out of the car, "I am sorry Princess, one day you'll understand what's like to have a fated mate."
Jamey rolled her eyes, she didn't want to hear anymore of his tall tales about fated mates, that was all child's talk that was well over done anyway. She looked away and put her car in drive, she needed her escape. She sped off and continued south into San Diego, where she knew her Mother's house was waiting.
Her Mother lived alone, she owned a massive ranch she had inherited and she took care of it all by herself, her husband (Jamey's step-Dad) died when Jamey was 5 and she had never moved on, she was quiet and reserved but when it came to her daughters, she was over the top protective and easily excited. Her true happy side came out, Jamey sighed as she pulled into her Mother's driveway, she needed this surprisingly. She turned her car off and hopped out and she was instantly greeted by her Mother's warm hug.
"Jamey darling, why aren't you at school? The house isn't ready yet dear." Her warm blue eyes looked at Jamey with worry and love.
Her Mother was Katie's twin, they looked alike and to top it off, her Mother looked 35 as well even though she was 55 years old, not that she would like it if you told her that.
Jamey sighed, "It's Mike... he's..."
She froze, something was wrong, she c****d her head slightly to the left, yes there it was again, the very faint sound of a branch being broken.
"Mom... were you expecting anyone today?"
Her Mother raised her eyebrows, "I swear that hearing of yours gets better and better every time you come by, yes I was expecting someone, now don't get mad at me okay? She just wants to say hi."
Jamey groaned, she knew exactly who that was, her Aunt May. Aunt May looked oddly enough, exactly like Jamey except taller and slightly more muscular, her wild black hair often earned her the nickname "Witch Girl" because she lived in a small cottage in Northern Washington and was often alone and people swore she could be heard chanting around an open fire late at night.
"Mom... why.. what does she want this time? She only shows up to beg for money or try and kidnap me..." Jamey rolled her eyes.
Her Aunt had never actually tried to kidnap her, she just wanted her to move to Washington for some reason and Jamey never could get why.
"Darling, I know it's your birthday but she called me because she said it's time. I am sorry I didn't tell you all this before."
Now it was Jamey's turn to be surprised and worried, "What do you mean? Tell me what?? What's so important about today BESIDES my trip to Europe?"
Her Mother sighed, "Jamey... for starters you aren't going to Europe, I'm sorry I had to lie for the past 2 years but I needed you to stay in California where you were safe and protected..."
Jamey cut her off, "Wait what? So you lied to me? What's so scary about Europe? Katie left for Italy 5 years ago and she's perfectly fine! If anything she's 10 times happier than she was here, what's to protect ME from? Nothing, you just want to keep me hear like you tried to do with Katie except she had the guts to stand up and leave..."
"Jamey Lynn, that's not why I lied to you, there's nothing wrong with Europe." Her Mother snapped.
"Oh okay, then why won't I be going? Why can't I go? I have been saving for months! You know this, I could've gotten a new car by now!" Jamey was all but yelling at her now.
So far, today wasn't turning out to be the best day for her, she couldn't stand it, first Mike was acting totally off and cold and now her Mother and to top it all off, here comes her Aunt May to f**k things up for her too, Jamey started shaking with rage, she could feel the anger growing and growing, her Mother must've noticed it too as she began to step back slowly with her hands up.
"This wasn't supposed to happen this way darling, I need you to calm down, it's not safe." She begged softly.
Jamey was past that point, her rage consumed her and she dropped to the ground, she felt her whole body shake violently, she couldn't stop the shakes and then the pain started. At first she felt a warm sensation creep across her body then she felt like she was on fire, she opened her mouth to scream but instead she howled, she began to feel her bones move, her body twisted in way she didn't think was possible, she desperately looked up at her Mother, what was happening to her? Why was she in so much pain?
Yet she didn't see her Mother standing there, instead she saw the last person she expected to see, her Aunt May.
"What... what are you doing here?" Jamey managed to gasp between breaths.
"That foolish woman, thinking she could deny you this right... Jamey, my sweet child, you're going through your first change, while most happen around 16-17, you smoked too much weed and it halted the phasing but once you turn 21, you can't stop the change. Bethany should've told you something but she wanted to protect you." Aunt May sighed as she stroked Jamey's hair gently.
Jamey screamed again as another tidal wave of pain raced through, her bones continued to break and she felt something else now too, she felt herself changing. She could feel the bones cracking faster and she felt something coming out of her body, she began to thrash and begged her Aunt May to kill her, this pain was too much. Aunt May didn't aid her, she continued to hold Jamey's head and stroke her hair gently whispering words of encouragement.
Jamey screamed one more time and shuddered and fell still, and then she opened her eyes and slowly stood up and in that moment, she knew she wasn't a human anymore. Instead of hands and feet she now had 4 large black paws, and instead of her usual angelic face, she had a white long face with fur and tall ears. She yelped and did a small circle, why was she walking like this, why was she suddenly a wolf, what was happening? She looked down at her Aunt May and she was surprised to see her smiling with tears in her eyes.
"I know you're confused Jamey, it's okay, you're one of us now, Bethany never told you because I made her keep silent.. it's time you knew. You are not her daughter, you never were, I gave you to Bethany to protect you from some dangerous creatures, I also made sure that you never knew about the secret until you were ready, I stayed within your life and posed as your Aunt to make sure you were never alone and I could guide you safely, you were supposed to come back when you turned 18 but you didn't and I was forced to wait and come down once you were of age... my darling daughter, you're not human. You are a werewolf, and it's time for you to claim your throne alongside me, and your Father, the King of all werewolves."
