CHAPTER 7 DAMIAN’S POV I waited patiently for Becca to arrive but she didn't. I was worried, several thoughts ran through my mind and I couldn't help but get scared. I was scared that she was going to do something drastic. This was our first fight since we had gotten married five years ago. Rebecca hated it when we argued so she made sure to settle it before they escalated. I did not understand what was wrong this time, it meant she had heard something terrible about me. Someone was trying to break our relationship and she was allowing it. It was past midnight but she didn't come in drunk like it happened in movies, instead everywhere was silent. I must have slept on the couch but when I woke up, I still didn't see her. I was getting agitated. She was married for goodness sake, she couldn't just leave the house without saying anything or even calling. I started regretting that she had gone over to her mother’s place. I had a bad feeling about it but shrugged it off, now I was suffering the consequences. “Where the f**k is she?” It was already morning and I was worried. Why wasn't she home at this time, at least she could have called. I hope she was safe. I dialed her number but it didn't go through, it was like she had put off her phone. Wild thoughts started making their way to my head as I tried to deny everything. “Rebecca will never cheat on me!” I said to myself. I looked out the window, awaiting her arrival. Just as I was about to go out to look for her, I saw her coming out of a luxurious car. She had several shopping bags with her and made her way to the house. I went back to the couch and waited for her to come in, I didn't want to believe what I saw. Maybe I was imagining things and it was beginning to affect me. “Where are you coming from?” I asked her, my voice coming out thicker than I had expected. She didn't respond for a while and seemed rather startled. After waiting for a response and not getting one, I got the answer I required. I needed to clear my head as I couldn't handle any of this. I walked towards her, glancing at her and she seemed very scared. I walked out of the house, totally ignoring her. That wasn't my Rebecca. Rebecca wouldn't do something like that, I tried to think of where she could have gone but I didn't have any idea. I walked round the street, my heart shattered into pieces. Bringing out my phone, I dialed the number that I had been calling for some days now but it was the same answer. No response! I was frustrated and needed someone to call. I called my father thinking he was going to pick up my call but he didn't. I guess he had forgotten about me. Why was the world so cruel? Sitting down in a nearby coffee shop, I ruffled my hair in confusion. Who could I speak to? I couldn't handle this anymore, I really loved Rebecca and was willing to do anything for her. I was ready to plead with my father to forgive me, I was ready to do any means of business just to get her what she wanted but I couldn't handle her quietness. It scared me because we always told each other everything, whenever one of us did whatever we didn't like we wouldn't hesitate to tell the other. I finally decided to see Angela and Justin. They knew what had gone wrong, they were only options for now but I couldn't keep up with any of this. I left the coffee shop and headed to the train stop before boarding it. Getting to her house, I rang the bell in hesitation. “Can I come in?” I asked once Justin opened the door for me. He stared at me with disgust before finally walking inside. I walked along with him ready to face what I was here for. Angela was sitting with lots of gifts on the table. “Good morning ma'am,” I greeted and managed to feign a smile. Wanting to sit down, I was immediately stopped. “Don't you dare set your buttocks on my sofa,” she said angrily. “What's wrong? Did I do anything, I can't handle any of this cold treatment anymore.” I let out in frustration. Angela looked at me for a while before bursting into laughter. “Did you just walk into my house to shout at me?” she asked. I heaved a long breath, I wasn't going to do this. I wasn't going to disrespect my mother—in—law. She wasn't like this before and I knew something was wrong and caused her reaction. “I know I have done something but can you tell me, I will apologize. Becca didn't sleep at home last night and I almost went insane.” I said, trying hard not to break down. “You didn't do anything wrong. You are just too wretched for my daughter and she doesn't want to have anything to do with you.” Angele said harshly. I tried to regain my balance as I thought about everything she had said, she can't be serious. “What do you mean wretched? We are doing fine, I don't understand any of this.” I asked, confused. “You don't deserve my daughter, she deserves someone better. Someone who would take care of her, someone who would give her luxurious items, and not someone like you.” Her mother spat angrily. I looked at Justin. He was ashamed and he lowered his gaze. “What is all of this about?” I asked him but he ignored me and left. Reality began to hit me, they wanted a luxurious life. I looked at the sofa and saw designer bags and shoes scattered all over the place. Who was buying all of this for them? Does it mean Rebecca was cheating?
