CHAPTER 2 REBECCA’S POV “I don't understand any of this at all!” I complained while pacing around the room. I truly was confused, what was he hiding from me? This looks like stories where the guy just wants to use the lady for his benefit. I know Damian very well and understand that he will never do anything to hurt me but this was different. Today was supposed to be the happiest day of my life but unfortunately, it had turned sour. The feeling of betrayal and pain filled my heart as I tried not to spill tears. The pain of holding the lump in my throat was more painful than the heartbreak I was feeling. Was I that bad? What expectations were his parents looking for that I didn’t have? “I am sorry that this is happening but it wasn't my fault.” Damian tried explaining. Today was the day we had planned for our families to meet but Damian’s parents didn't show up at all. Feeling like a defeated fool, I lied that they couldn't make it because of emergencies. “Let's just continue the party, we will discuss this later,” he said before dragging me out of the room. I walked into the small party my parents had hosted while exchanging pleasantries with everyone. I couldn't tell my parents that I had gotten married almost immediately, it felt surreal to even me. “Damian, meet my mom! Mom, Damian.” I uttered with a smile. She stared at me perplexed for a while before I realized why she looked confused. “He is my fiancee, we will be getting married soon,” I added while feeling guilty that I had to lie. I felt my hands gently squeezed, staring up to see Damian with a huge smile I felt very lucky. It was more than a blessing to find a man like him, he had all the needs I wanted in a man. He was extraordinary and cared for everyone. In terms of physical features, he was perfect. I feel very proud when I see other girls drooling over my man. There was this aura around him that he carried everywhere, it commanded respect regardless of his position. “You can call me Angela!” My mother uttered with a welcoming smile. From her gestures, I knew she was happy with my choice. I looked around as she asked Damian a few questions before excusing herself. “That wasn't so bad!” Damian said as he let out a deep breath. I tried to speak but had nothing to say, despite all of this happening I still wasn't happy. “What's wrong?” he asked, cupping my face into his large palms. I didn't want to look at him at all, he had this uncontrollable effect on me. He was always doing this whenever he wanted to get me to say something. “I don't want to talk, we are in public!” I scolded him. I wasn't a fan of public displays of affection. I rather be indoors and act all naughty with my partner than in public. “I ain't letting you go till you speak,” he said in a song manner. I couldn't help but giggle at his childish behavior. “I wish your parents were here. Why don't they even like me, they haven't even seen me.” I said with a pout. It worried me that things had to go this way, I had always envisioned visiting my mother-in-law and getting very close to her but it seemed like none of that was going to happen anytime soon. “I was betrothed to a lady and that is their reason against our marriage.” he finally let out. We stayed in silence while I tried to process the new information I had just gotten. “I believe an issue that has to do with marriage is my choice. They can force me!” he added angrily. “Let's forget about this now. We would have further discussion about it.” I told him before dragging him into the hall with other several people. All through the time I couldn’t stop thinking about the issue, why are his parent hellbent on him marrying this lady? Who was she anyway and who were his parents? I was kept in the dark and had several questions with no answer. I couldn't totally blame him, but who the hell gets their child betrothed in this century? Only rich people do that and their aim is to get married to their fellow rich ones. Damian comes from a middle-class family and decided to shove all thoughts that had to do with this issue, I went into the party to have fun. It was definitely a fun party and I felt relieved for a bit. At least I could take my mind off the whole drama, to be honest, I was more than exhausted. Damian was staying over at my place so I prepared his room for him. “I like the guy.” my mother said. I felt startled as she had just dragged me while I was walking. “Mom! I was startled!” I whined dramatically. I really respected my mom, she was everything to me and always wanted the best for me. She was another jewel I wouldn’t lose in my life. “Mom, I know Damian is very handsome. Your daughter bagged herself then man!” I said with an excited squeal while she laughed at me. “You didn’t disappoint,” she uttered. Knowing how my mom was I knew she was pleased with him, my mother wouldn’t have hesitated to look down on him if he was not good enough. Just before she could say something else, Damian walked in with his shoulders raised with an air of superiority. “I searched everywhere for you, didn’t know you were here,” Damian muttered as he moved closer to me. I glanced at my mom who had a wide smile on her lips and I couldn’t help but cringe. Can she just act normal? “I am sorry ma, I need to drag her away.” Damian said politely while she let out a laugh.” Don't do anything shitty in my house!” she yelled behind us. I wrapped my arms around him, sniffing in his cologne. I enjoyed his scent so much, it was soothing and elegant. I couldn't wait to start smelling like him. My eyes followed him as he changed from his clothes to something simple. Several questions ran through my mind with no answers. We had never really planned the future and just got married. We didn't talk about our location, nothing seemed exciting. I wanted to know where he is from, and what exactly what his family is like. “I know you are bothered about not meeting my family. They just wouldn't meet you but hopefully, they loosen up and finally accept our bond.” Damian assured. I felt relieved and hopeful, we had a big future waiting for us and I was going to watch it unfold even though I didn’t like that I had to be the one separating him from his family, I wished they could just agree to his terms soon. “Come here!” he said, biting my ear lobe while I giggled loudly. “Stop being naughty,” I warned but he didn’t listen to me…. .
