Drake Johnson (POV)
‘According to the Luna, Colby did a great number on making it look like a mugging. He is in such bad shape that he will be in the hospital for a few days.’ Lucas, my Gamma was telling me.
I felt pleased about it. ‘Good. At least she will have a few days without him.’
‘That is what I was thinking. She really is special. Every time I speak to her, I become more impressed.’
I frown at that. ‘You talk to her a lot?’ I couldn’t help but feel a little jealous over my Gamma spending more time with my mate.
‘It is a part of my job, boss. To keep the Luna safe. How do you think I got the info on her so-called boyfriend? I made it look like I was at the hospital visiting a sick friend and she believed me. That is when she opened up when I asked her why she was there.’
I took a deep breath to calm myself and my wolf down. He was ready to come out and hunt down Lucas. ‘Ok, you’re right. You need to stick close to protect her.’ After all, it was the Gammas who bond with the Lunas as their bodyguards. It is their destiny to protect with their lives their Lunas.
‘Now that you found your mate, I can fulfill my purpose as a Gamma.’ He said with pride. ‘I have waited for so long. Not that I didn’t enjoy being your friend and warrior, but I finally have my duty to protect the packs, Luna.’
‘Again, you are right. And I know it is your duty. Forgive me for being a little jealous that you are spending more time with my mate than I am.’
‘Hey,” He suddenly changed from his teasing tone. ‘You know it is in my blood to only protect her not to take her away from you, right?’
‘Yeah, I know. And you are doing a great job. For that, I am grateful to you. You are the only one I can trust to guard her.’ I say to him sincerely.
‘I appreciate that. I only see her as my Luna, your mate. I know she is off limits.’
‘Keep up the good work and keep me posted Lucas.’
‘Will do, Boss.’
Then the connection ends and I sigh and rub my temples. I got to get a handle on this jealousy. It is his job after all. Cole is suddenly feeling restless, so I decided to take us out for a run.
I leave my office and the pack house and head to the forest. I strip down and place my clothes on a tree branch to keep the critters away and shifted into my black wolf with dark silver tips on his fur. He is unique and I love how he looks with silver eyes.
‘Come on Cole, let’s run to the shore.’ I say as we could hear the ocean waves crashing to the shore from our pack. Thus, the name Ocean View Pack. We own beachfront property, and it is private to outsiders. There is a river that runs through the pack territory that runs into the ocean. It is quite spectacular.
‘You got it, boss.’ He says mimicking Lucas with his calling me boss. Lucas knows I hate it and continues to irritate me with it.
Cole begins to run, and it doesn’t take long to get to the sandy shore. This is Cole’s favorite spot to run and play so I let him have free reign to run. I just sat back and thought of my mate. This is where I want to take her. She would love it. Maybe we can run together with her on the back of Cole.
‘I would love that,’ Cole says at my train of thought.
‘I know you would, buddy. I would love it too. We just need to get her away from that jackass.’
‘Let me at him. He would no longer be a problem.’ He says with a growl.
‘I would, buddy. But he is human in the human world and their laws are different from ours.’
His answer is a loud howl to the wind. I can’t blame him I want…No, I need my mate and so does he. We would do anything to finally have her where she belongs. I just need to come up with an idea. A Plan. I need to get her away from that asshole. I am sure something will come to mind. After all the Goddess was the one to bring Laria into my life to be my mate. She must have a plan or a reason for it. I just need to trust her that everything will work out.
Later that night after a hot shower I lay in bed staring up at the ceiling heavy in thought. Not only am I an Alpha but I am also a CEO of a company where the finances fund the pack. Most Packs are funded by their own companies, it is how we survive. My company is in the city, and I have hired not only wolves but humans as well. My Beta Wayne Davis helps me run it. We are one of the top companies in the country. Maybe I will go in tomorrow and do some work. Maybe it will help keep my mind off my situation.
With that decided and I won’t have to be concerned for at least a couple of days while Carl is in the hospital about Laria. She is safe for now. And Lucas is guarding her.
The next day I wake up before the sun is up and put on my dark blue suit and black tie and grab my briefcase and keys and head out. Once at the office building, I park my car in my special parking spot and walk through the door past the security, and head toward the elevator. I hit the floor of my office and wait. I get to my floor, and I hear the cleaning crew still cleaning. I walk past an older man carrying a trash can and stopped when something caught my eye. His name badge. ‘Peter Jenkins’, it read.
“Excuse me.” I begin as he stops and turns to look at me. “Are you by any chance related to Laria Jenkins?”
He smiles at me, “Yes that is my daughter. Do you know her?”
I smile back, “As a matter of fact I do.” What a small world. Her father works for me. An idea begins to form. I may now have a way into her life…through her family.
