Chapter Six- What happened?

1267 Words
Laria Jenkins (POV) I can’t believe bumping into Mr. Handsome. Then when he touched me the sparks and tingles spread all throughout my body and down to my core making me squeeze my thighs together. I never had that happen to me. At times like this, I wish I was free from this farce of an engagement to pursue other relationships. But unless I had hundreds of thousands to pay back, I am stuck. And to be honest I would do it all again to save my sister. She means the world to me. Jane is too young to be suffering like this and she needs to live as she has her life ahead of her. I was almost home when my cell went off. I looked down and saw it was the hospital. I begin to shake thinking it could be about my sister and answered it quickly with shaky hands. “Hello?” I begin. “Is this Laria Jenkins?” A female voice asked. “Yes, this is she.” “We have admitted a Carl Philips here.” She said. “What? What happened?” I asked frowning. “It seems he was mugged and beaten up really good. He is asking for you.” “I am on my way.” I hang up and hailed a cab to take me to the hospital. Once there I walk through the doors and walk up to the reception desk and inquired about Carl. “Only friends or family are allowed to see him.” She said after typing in his name. “I am his fiancée,” I say to her showing the ring on my finger. “And your name?” “Laria Jenkins.” “Oh yes, Mr. Philips has been asking for you. Third floor room 304.” I nod to her and say thank you and head toward the elevator and push the button to head to the third floor. I look for room 304 and get to the door when I hear. “Get me, my fiancée. Now you BITCH.” “Calm down, Mr. Philips. I am sure she is on her way.” I hear a woman say. “In the meantime, the doctor told me to give you this pain medicine. You have a concussion.” “I don’t want your damn meds. I want Laria here.” That’s my cue, “I am here Carl.” I say as I push through the door. “It’s about Damn time, woman.” “Carl, I left the moment they called me.” I looked at him and saw he was bruised up and his head bandaged. He looks worse than me. “They told me you were mugged.” “I was. They took my wallet. I had to call the credit cards and have them stop all transactions.” “Mr. Philips. Now that your fiancée is here, I am ordered to give you this to help you heal.” A nurse said while holding a syringe filled with, I assume is the pain medicine. “Yeah, yeah. Fine. Now that Laria is here.” I went over and sat in the chair next to the bed and watched as the nurse injects into his IV the needle. “You will feel sleepy in a few moments. It is for your own good.” She says as she backs away to get ready to leave. “Nurse?” I begin, “How bad is he beaten up?” “He suffered a head injury and a few broken ribs and a collapsed lung. He was in surgery for that earlier. We had to reinflate it.” “And how long will he be staying?” I asked curiously. “A couple of days for precaution.” She looked at me and saw the bruises, “Are you all, right?” She asked indicating my face. I touched my face and weakly smiled at her, “Yeah. I slipped in the shower and hit my face on the counter.” “I can give you something for that,” She said looking as if she didn’t believe me then glanced toward Carl. “No, I am fine. Really, I am.” I gave her another smile. She nods her head and then walked out of the room. I looked over at Carl and the medicine already took over and he was asleep. “Thank God,” I whispered, thankful for some peace and quiet. I wasn’t sure what to do. Do I stay until he wakes up or do I go home to get some rest? I decided to for the latter option. I was tired and needed sleep as I still have to work the next day. I got up and wrote Carl a quick note explaining to him that I would be back tomorrow before I head out to work. Then I stood and left. I just get out the door to the hospital enjoying the night air when I hear, “Hey, is that you?” I turn around to see the guy from the restaurant. Not the one who gives me butterflies but his friend. I smile, “Hey.” “What are you doing here this late? I figured you would have been home once you got off work.” He said grinning at me. “I would have been, but it seems my boyfriend was mugged this evening. I had to make sure he was ok.” “Oh, I see. How is he? My name is Lucas by the way.” “He will be ok. He is needing to stay for observation for a few days. And I am Laria.” I say, reaching my hand out to shake his. He takes my hand and smiles. “So, Lucas. What are you doing here?” I asked him as I noticed that he was heading out too. “I was just visiting a sick friend. I was heading out to go home when I spotted you.” I nodded, “Well I have to be going now. I am waiting for a cab.” He frowned, “Why wait for a cab? I can drop you off. After all, you are my favorite server.” “Is that why you keep sitting at my tables?” I smirked at him. “Guilty.” I giggled at that as he looked sheepishly. “Ok, I will accept your offer. Thank you.” He smiled and we walked toward his car. He helped me in and got in and started the engine and began to drive away. He followed my instructions and stopped in front of the cold mini-mansion. I hated this house. “Wow, you live here?” He asked, looking at the dark house. I look at him, “It is my boyfriend’s home. I just live here.” I sighed and reached for the door handle to open it. I turn and look at Lucas. “Thank you for the ride.” I smile as I add, “I guess I will see you or your friends at the restaurant.” He chuckled, “You probably will. We do a lot of business and meetings there.” “Well, you are giving us plenty of business yourself.” Again, I sigh and look at the cold place. “Thank you again.” I get out and close the door and walk up the walk to the door unlocking it I walk into the cold dark house.
