Drake Johnson (POV)
I am doing work on my computer when my phone goes off alerting me to a message. I look down at it and saw it was from Lucas.
Lucas: I believe Carl may have beaten up Luna. She is covered with black eyes and bruises. I smell blood and know she is more injured than letting on. She claims to have fallen in the shower hitting her face on the countertop. I do not believe it.
I read the message and anger fills me and I stand and punch a hole in the wall of my office. “That Bastard!” I scream. I feel my wolf getting as angry as me and wanting to be set free to find the bastard and tear him apart.
I pick up my phone and message back.
Drake: I am sending Colby to you. I want you to send him along with a nice message to Carl. He needs to be roughed up a bit and warned to never touch Laria again or it would be worse.
I hit send and a few minutes later he messages back.
Lucas: Right. I was thinking the same. We cannot let this bastard hurt our Luna.
Drake: You still at the restaurant?
Lucas: Yes, I will be here waiting for Colby.
Drake: Good I just mind-linked him. He will be there in fifteen minutes.
Lucas: Ok and here. I snuck a pic of Laria.
I received the photo and saw red when I saw how bad her face looked. That was not from the bathroom counter. That is damage from punches from a fist. I need to get my mate away from him somehow. But she is human in a human world that knows nothing of mate bonds and such. I have to think like a human to try and get them broken up so I can claim her.
Dake: I am so livid. I want to tear that piece of s**t to pieces.
Lucas: You and me both. But this is the human world.
I sighed,
Drake: I know. Doesn’t calm my wolf down though.
Lucas: I know but you need to try and calm Cole down. Humans have no idea about us.
Drake: You don’t have to tell me. As it is I am trying to think like a human to come up with a solution to break them up.
Lucas: That would be best.
Drake: …
Lucas: Colby just got here and here comes Laria to take his order.
Drake: Ok. Make sure Carl gets roughed up good.
Lucas: Will do boss. ; )
Drake: Smart Ass.
I look at the pic one more time and growl before putting my phone down and continuing my alpha duties. If I keep dwelling on it, it will only anger me more. My pack doesn’t need an out-of-control Alpha wolf. Sighing, I stand and grabbed my phone, and decided to head down to the gym and get a heavy workout. Once I get there, I noticed Serge Colier there working out. He is my head warrior and just about equal to my strength and would be a great opponent to work out my frustration with.
“Serge!” I yelled at him from across the room.
“Yeah, Alpha?”
“I need a strong workout and you are just who I need.” I smile at him.
He smiles back as he walks toward me, “Trouble in paradise?”
“You might say that. Remember I told you about finding my mate?”
“Yeah, I remember. She is engaged to an i***t, right?” He said as he stopped in front of me.
“Yeah, an i***t who happened to beat the s**t out of her.” I showed him the pic.
“Damn. What are you going to do?”
“I sent Colby to rough him up with a message.”
Serge Laughed, “Oh I bet he will do one hell of a job on this guy.”
I smile, “That is the point. But with them being human we have to do this the human way and not kill the guy.”
“Too bad. He deserves to be torn apart. Even in our culture, we do not beat up women.”
“I agree. Now I have a lot of pent-up frustration. Help me out, will you?” I say putting my phone down and taking off my shirt.
He smirked at me. “Sure thing. Just don’t get me confused with the dumb ass.”
I smirked back, “I will try not to.”
Serge was great and we both came out with cuts and bruises. Now with my frustration under control, I decided to wait outside the restaurant for Laria to get off work and make it look like I am bumping into her by accident.
I shower and changed into jeans and a black tee. I grab my keys and wallet and head out to my car. I get to the restaurant and parked my car and hid across the street and waited. I see Lucas and Colby leaving and Colby went in another direction. Probably to scope out Carl. I mind-linked Lucas and told him of my plan. He informs me according to her work schedule she gets off in two hours. He had planned on following her home to keep watch on her. That is what he had been doing these past few days. He takes guarding his Luna seriously.
‘After I bump into her, I need you to continue to secretly guard her. If you hear any kind of disturbance inside their place you have my permission to interfere. I don’t want her to get so bad from him that it sends her to the hospital.’
‘Believe me, boss, he will be the one who ends up in the hospital.’ Lucas says while grinning at me from across the street.
‘Alpha, if you want to accidentally bump into her. See that little coffee shop on the corner?’ Lucas asks me pointing down the street.
‘Yes, I see it.’
‘She stops in there after her shift for a cup of her favorite tea. That would be a great spot to bump into her.’
I smile at him, ‘Thanks for the tip. That would be perfect.’
I waited for nearly two hours and begin to walk towards the coffee shop. Once there I order a black coffee and took a seat close to the window to keep a watch for Laria. I see her arrive five minutes after her shift and notice her slightly limping. I can tell she is in pain and trying to hide it. She walks in and goes up to the counter and I hear her order a chamomile tea with no sugar. She pays for her order and takes her cup and as she turns, she sees me sitting there and I smile at her.
She walks over and says, “I don’t know if you remember me, but I served you at the restaurant down the street.”
“Yes, I do remember you,” I say, “Care to join me? I was just enjoying a cup of coffee before I had to go home.”
She sat down across from me, “Thank you, that would be nice. I am on my feet for so long that I usually stop her before my walk home.”
I noticed all the bruising on her face and can tell she tried to hide some of it with makeup. I frowned, “May I ask what happened?” I indicated to her face.
She places her hand over the injury and smiles before saying, “I was clumsy getting out of the shower. It was slippery and I fell hitting my face on the counter.”
I nodded knowing the truth. But said anyway, “It can be quite slippery stepping out.”
Again, she smiled, “Yeah, it can.”
I took a sip of my coffee before asking, “So, I take it you just got off work?”
She took a small sip before answering, “Ooh, Hot.” She says setting her tea down and continuing, “And yes, I just got off work.”
I nod then smiled at her even though looking at her injuries I want to so badly let her have a bit of my blood to help heal her. As an Alpha, I am able to do that with a human mate. “Well, I am glad that I was here when you did. I rather enjoy the company.”
It is killing me knowing she is in pain, and I can’t do anything about it.
“This is nice. I am glad too.” Then she looked at the time on her cell phone and got up. “I am sorry, I didn’t realize the time. I must be going.”
I reached out and took her hand, feeling the sparks and seeing her reaction to it. “Do you still have the card I gave you?” She nodded yes, “Good. If ever you need a friend to talk to, I am here. Please don’t hesitate to call me.”
She gave me a feeble smile before nodding again, “Thanks for the company.”
“Anytime, Laria. Anytime.”
She looked surprised that I remembered her name, then nodded and turned, and walked out with her tea in hand.
