CHAPTER EIGHT

*Cain’s POV*

I walked back to the house in wolf form, I had shred my clothes when I went after Belle and I wasn’t about to let my servants see me naked. I went up to my room in wolf form shifted and went to take a bathe then called my beta to meet me in my room immediately.

Tyler walked in few minutes later “You look riled up” he says as he walks closer “tell the admin to make Belle my personal maid” I say. “What’s up with you man? Why are you bothered about that maid lately?” he asks. “Nothing just do as you’re told. Goodnight” I say dismissing him, he sighs and leaves my room.

After tonight event I didn’t care about my mate’s background anymore, I knew there was something special about her which could possibly mean she was in danger. I wanted nothing more than to protect her from dangers I could sense was coming, I wanted her close to me.

I wake up feeling really bad for hurting my mate, Damien scolded me most of the night and is currently not talking to me. I stood up from the bed I put on a vest and joggers. Checking the time I noticed it was past six already and I knew she might be in my office waiting already. So I headed straight to my office eager to see her again.

As I reached my office door I could hear her talking to my beta but before I could figure out what they were talking about I burst in and saw her looking beautiful as always in her maids outfit. I heard her and my beta greet me but I decided to respond by giving out orders and telling my beta to go on a run with me. I was scared to actually talk to her nicely, I had treated her badly since we met and I didn’t know if she would forgive me if I asked so I decided to keep playing alpha till I could gather the courage to ask her forgiveness and claim her.

I was tired of the games, my mate as shown me my arrogant pride cause I no longer understood why I wouldn’t just claim her maid or not. I was alpha and I could have any female I wanted alpha blood or not so what made my mate different. I don’t know how I’d feel if someone treated me badly simply because I was alpha not that anyone could but still.

Entering the bathroom I decided I was going to stop being a jerk and try to win back my mate. I had a quick shower and then quickly got dressed in a navy blue gown shirt and a dark skinny jeans, brushed my hair to it normal position at the side of my face then left my room heading to my office.

After what seems like ages of discussing the best strategy to subdue the growing presence of rogues in my kingdom, watching my mate serve snacks, tea and other beverages while Alex was flirting with me which I was in no mood for, I wasn’t going to hurt Belle again.  

“I think we should wait until we capture a rouge and find out what their plan is exactly” Alex says as she made her way to my side, bent over my shoulder “I think we should focus on this areas…” she continued pointing to the map in front of me with her breasts on my shoulder.

I shifted to the side in discomfort not wanting to upset Belle any further and my wolf was growling. I saw anger explode in her eyes and I knew she had reached her breaking point. She was about to say something but stopped and her expression changed to that of pain I was immediately on edge trying to keeping Damien in control but then I heard her scream I lost all control. I stood up and was by her side in minutes and was about to lift her “don’t…don’t touch me” she yells “I hate you… don’t you dare touch me” she yells crying while trying to push herself up.

I look at her in pain, wanting to ease her pain but she won’t let me. Everyone in the room was looking at us confusion written all over their face but I didn’t care all I cared about was my mate.

“Please Belle let me help you” I say pleading with her “no. why do you want to help a lowly maid?” she asks as she crumbles to the ground again crying in pain.

Anger filling my body that my mate didn’t want me near her and it was all my fault, I had hurt her and treated her badly.

“I’m your mate damn it”. I yell back “let me help you. Please belle” I say again in a soft voice and see her relax a little bit. I immediately move closer to pick her up bridal style, taking her out of the office heading for my room.

I put her in the tub, turn the water on filling the tub and helping to cool her burning skin. Grabbing a towel, dipping it in cold water then place it on her head. I knew she would need to change her clothes and knowing her stubborn nature she wouldn’t wear my clothes so I left the room again and marched back to my office.

“Tyler” I yell as I stepped back into my office and he was immediately in front of me. “Find out if Belle has a friend or something among the maids and ask whoever it is to go to her room and fetch me fresh clothes for her. Tell the maid to bring it herself to my room” I say turning to leave but I turn back “also call the doctor immediately”. I say leaving the office again and heading back to my room.

I knew my mate was in heat but I also knew she wouldn’t allow me to touch her just yet hence the need for a doctor.  Several minutes later I heard a soft knock on my door which I immediately opened, a maid stood there but immediately bowed when she saw me “you asked for fresh clothes for Belle, alpha” she says.

I motioned her to come in “the bathroom is over there, go help her get dressed and call me when you are done” I say pointing towards the bathroom. She scurried away to do my bidding immediately.

After a while she beckoned on me to come in which I did immediately. I lifted Belle and carried her to the bed, laid her down moved to get in with her but she moved away from my touch.  She had been quiet all this while mostly because she was in pain and my touch was the only thing that was comforting her but I could still sense her hurt and distrust for me.

Respecting her decision I took a chair, placing it beside the bed “what’s your name?” I ask the maid who had been watching us silently “Lilly, alpha” she says bowing her head. “Lilly you’d be helping me care for her while she’s indisposed but for now could you kindly get her something to eat” I say to her noticing her surprise at my casual tone but nodded her response and left.

Few seconds the doctor walked in and immediately got to work examining her, asking her a few questions which she answered.

“There’s nothing to worry about, alpha. The lady is just in heat and it would pass in a few days. Give her one of this pill now and one anytime the pain resurfaces” he says handing me a small bottle containing the pills and then left.

Getting a glass of water I put the pill in her hand and handed her the water. She swallowed the pill “what would I have to do to pay for all the care you’ve been showing” she says finally speaking since I carried her to my room. Hurt by her words but knew I had earned her distrust “nothing” I say shaking my head. Now you’ve done it our mate doesn’t trust us Damien whines in pain.

I was about to start an apology when the door opens and Lilly walks in carrying a tray of food which she placed in front of my mate.

“Hey B eat up” she says smiling at Belle who returned the smile “hey, I’m sorry you have to serve and tend to me when you should be doing something fun on your day off” Belle says in a sad voice. “come on B, you know I won’t be able to have fun knowing you were in pain and besides serving you I get to gossip about the royals” Lilly says with a wink whispering the later part to make sure I didn’t hear and Belle smiled as she drew her into a hug.

It was the first time I had seen my mate at ease it as like I wasn’t there. I watched her eat while chatting with her friend but was gradually starting to feel sleepy. “Hey Lil do you think you can help me to my room I’m feeling sleepy” I heard my mate ask. “You can sleep here” I say but she shake her head “I have inconvenienced the alpha long enough and I truly appreciate your kindness to a lowly maid like myself” she says bowing her head and getting up.

“Belle please let me take care of you till you get better at least” I say pleading with her and she nodded “I can’t disobey an order from the alpha” she says. I really wanted to gain her trust and make her see I was willing to change for her “it’s not an order, you are free to say no” I say hoping she says yes and I see Lilly from the corner of my eye giving her a pleading look which makes her reluctantly agree.

“OK” she says.

Lilly bids her goodnight and walks out and she immediately put pillows to divide the bed. “Goodnight alpha” she says turning her back to me and drifting off to sleep.

I knew then that I had my work cut out for me if I was ever going to gain the trust of my mate.
