Maid Royal

CHAPTER TWO

           *Belle's POV*

I stood there staring at the beauty that was going to be my new work place and home. Never in all my years had I seen such beautiful house up close. 

The house was magnificent and from the inscription on the gate walls I knew this was the royal alpha’s house more like a castle. The yard alone was big enough to fit in a small city. It was stories high and it was surrounded by a beautiful garden which enclosed a white water fountain, the walls was painted white with a hint of gold giving it a modern yet stylish look. I was awe struck by the sheer power the house itself seem to exude. 

Walking up to the door which was almost a five minute walk I raised my hand to knock when I heard my name “Belle!” I turned to see Miss Molly standing on the path that seemed to lead to the back of the house and headed straight to meet her.

“You are actually on time” she says staring at her wrist watch “well you can’t go in that way follow me” she says turning and heading back through the path leading to the back of the house as I suspected.

We entered into the kitchen through an oak door that seem to tremble at the feet of the one I had seen in front of the house but still managed to be more beautiful than most doors I had walked through while growing up.

The kitchen alone was bigger than the entire orphanage house and seemed to look like a kitchen fit for a restaurant than a house yet it managed to be elegant and cozy with its brown granite top and coffee stained wood kitchen island that held a bowl of assorted fruits that looked almost too good to eat. Bar stools were positioned round the kitchen island. All appliance where state of the art and I could tell just by the looks of the kitchen that the royal alpha’s household had more money than an ocean had water.

Miss Molly informed me that I would be a kitchen maid and my duties included washing dishes, making sure the kitchen was in top shape at all times, setting the dining room ready for meals and serving food to the royals during meals this means I was at their beck and call while they ate, however there were five of us with these same duties which meant I could sneak to school after breakfast and be back before lunch and on my free days I wouldn’t have to sneak around.

I had no problem with my duties as I wanted to be a chef in the nearest future so working in the kitchen would give me a peak into that way of life but I had a question and as if on cue Miss Molly asked “any questions” looking at her I asked “are there rules I should know with regards to conducting myself around the royals?” 

She gave me an approving smile and said “you are a smart girl”, I smiled at her approval of me and my intelligence as she continued “just remember not to make direct eye contact with any of the royals and only speak when spoken to”. I was also informed that the alpha had gone away to meet with other alphas and would be returning this evening hence my job starts now.

Shown to the room that I would be staying in henceforth by another servant named Caius I immediately noticed that I wasn’t going to sharing a room and that said a lot about how big this place is considering the number of servants they had, I also noticed that my room was bigger than my shared back at the orphanage.

I quickly arranged my things in the closet I found and then went to take a quick shower. The shower was very relaxing, so relaxing I was tempted to sleep but I got out and changed into the servant’s uniform I was given.

Back in the kitchen I realize that preparation for the evening meal was already in full swing and the anticipation of the alpha’s return hung in the air. I moved to where the chef was standing giving out orders “hi I’m Belle” I said to the man who turned looking at me with so much impatience. He was tall and broad with his hard set features he looked more like a fighter than a chef yet he had a kind dark grey eyes. “I’m one of the new kitchen maids, how can I help” I said sensing his impatience.

“Ah yes of course, you and hey you there” he said calling the attention of a girl who was just entering the kitchen “go to the dining room, set the table and when you are done come back immediately to start washing the dishes” he finished turning to bark more orders at the rest of the kitchen staff. 

I smiled at the girl beside me asking what her name was “Lillian but everyone calls me Lilly” she says with a radiant smile. She was a beautiful girl about my age, she was about 5 feet 1 inch tall which made her just a few inches shorter than I was, she had brunette hair that seemed to compliment her reddish brown eyes, and her lips were full. Everything about her figure complimented her nicely. “what’s yours?” she asked snapping me out of me assessment of her “Belle” I replied as we reached the dining room and were frozen to our position by the beauty of the room “holy cow” I heard Lilly say from beside me and I couldn’t have agreed more “these royals do everything in grand style” she says smiling I moved to start working “let us get to work so we aren’t thrown out in grand style” I replied and she let out a laugh then said “you and I are going to get along just fine”.

After several hours of running around getting everything ready I was tired but I was suddenly beginning to feel restless, my wolf was purring and agitated. All kitchen staff were informed that the alpha was back and would be coming down for dinner soon.

However something was happening to me and I was starting to feel hot but there was still a lot to be done before I could turn in for the night so I tried to shake away the feeling and move on. Just then Lilly came to my side and told me we were assigned to start taking the food into the dining room as the royals were already seated ready for dinner.

“Let’s do this" I said to her with a smile then we walked to the chef got the food and started heading towards the dining room when the sweet scent of the ocean and forest hit me. It was the best thing I ever smelled and I knew what it meant and by the way my body grew hot while my wolf jumped in excitement saying “MATE”.

I composed myself as much as I could as we entered the dining room remembering the rules Miss Molly had told me but as soon as I was in the room I couldn’t help but look at the source the scent I was perceiving and boom I was staring into the royal alpha’s hazel eyes that could drown me. He had hard features and was easily the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. He wore a dark shirt that had two buttons undone making me see his beautiful chest I immediately knew beneath that held a set of hard packs. His lips looked so delicious I could eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner but does same lips curled up in a smirk as his eyes began to darken but quickly returned to normal.

I didn’t realize I had been staring for a while until Lilly gently nudged me on, I immediately looked down and walked over to dish the food. I could have sworn I saw admiration in the eyes I had been looking into few minutes ago but what was predominant in those eyes was disgust and that hurt me and I didn’t understand why. Oh don’t misunderstand me I knew why I was hurt, he was my mate and I wanted him to love me, look at me like I was the most beautiful girl in the world but what I didn’t understand was I thought I was immune to people’s opinion of me regardless of who they were how could all my defenses be broken in just a few seconds. I guess the answer to that remained the same, he was my MATE. 

Never had I felt so conscious of how I looked like I was today. I knew I was beautiful to an extent but I doubted if I was beautiful enough to be the alpha’s mate. Being 5 feet 4 inches tall I wasn’t short, I had ash blonde hair that made my silver blue eyes pop and I had just enough curves in all the right places. However the look I recall seeing on the alpha’s face made me feel I was the ugliest person alive.

Swallowing down the hurt that had formed a lump in my chest I decided not to look in his direction again and that hurt my wolf, I could feel her whimpering and curling up in the back of my head. I served the first course as fast as I could and walked so fast out of the room it seemed like I was running.

I suffered through the rest of the meal the royals ate as I had to go back in with different courses but I made sure I stayed through to my decision not to look at the alpha. 

My wolf Daisy silently begged me to look at him for her sake, she was desperate to see him but she knew I was strong willed and would not be swayed from my decision and my wolf was also a proud one so she didn’t push much as shy was also hurt by him. 

Moments later dinner was over Lilly and I cleared the table and headed to the kitchen to do the dishes while the other girls busied themselves storing the left overs and help the chef make slight preparation for tomorrow morning meal. 

“What was that about” Lilly asked, I knew she noticed me stare at the alpha and also my anxiety throughout the meal but I wasn’t ready to share what just happened so I asked “what?” with a confused look on my face hoping she won’t ask about what happened not while we attended to the royals but my hope was dashed when she says “you all nervous all of a sudden and staring at the alpha” with emphasis on the alpha “oh that, it’s nothing I just had a sudden headache that’s all” I lied. She didn’t look convinced but decided not to pursue the topic and with that my respect for her grew. 

We talked about general things while we finished our work and soon everyone was ready to turn in for the night. 

Lilly and I headed towards the staff quarters when I told her to go ahead that I wanted to go back to grab a bottle of water, we hugged goodnight and I walked back into the kitchen which was now dark but I didn’t mind as wolves could see well in the dark, I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and before I knew it hands grabbed me and pinned me to the wall.
