“Did you do as I asked?”
“Yes, sir I did. I gave her the shot with the sedative. She sounds a little better. Where is the doctor? He really needs to look he over, she still doesn’t sound right. I have never seen so much smoke. What did you do to that place?”
“Yes, the doctor should be here any minute now. I did what I had to do. You did your job and that is all that matters. She may not be in the best of health right now, but she will be fine. Ask no more questions. Your money is over there. Take it and leave. If I have need of your services again, I know how to contact you.”
“It’s all there? All 25 million? You will have to excuse me while I make sure.”
“How dare you! I am a man of my word! I agreed to your 25 million! I was told you were the best. I don’t make f*****g mistakes or shortchange anyone ever. I wouldn’t be where I am today if that were the case!”
“This is the first time you have used my services; therefore, I will double check to make sure my money is there. It is in hundreds and grouped into thousands correct?”
“YES! I DID EVERYTHING YOU SAID TO DO RIGHT DOWN TO THE RED RUBBER BANDS! If you insist on making this harder than it has to be then follow me, I will take you to another room where you can count your money and wait for my return. What the doctor has to say about her condition is no longer your concern. As I stated before you have done your job and now, I am done with you for the time being.”
KNOCK, KNOCK!
“GODDAMM IT! Hurry up and follow me that would be the good doctor.”
A few minutes later.
“As you can see, she is having some trouble breathing from the smoke inhalation, but I think that is about it. She is currently sedated so you shouldn’t have any issues out of her, doctor.”
“She is a beautiful child. Her hair is such a deep rich brown. What color are her eyes? Do you know?”
“Her eyes are unique. Absolutely stunning. She has one green eye and one blue eye. Have you ever seen such a sight?”
“Heterochromia? Really? Hmm… Green and blue you say?”
“Yes, she has lovely eyes. I have seen people with heterochromia whose eyes are blue and brown but never in green and blue. And its complete heterochromia not sectional.”
“Hmm… her eyes and smoke inhalation aside. Let me look her over.”
“Alright.”
In the other room.
“Have you finished?”
“Just about. 23,575,000, 23,576, 23,577…”
“For the love of god, are you serious? How about we break the remaining bundles from the bags into 10,000-dollar bundles? Is this seriously how you have been counting all of this? You have been in here for almost an hour. Had you done this in a smarter manner you could have been finished and out of here.”
“If we do it that way, I might lose my spot, and may have to start over.”
“You said you were at 23,577,000, I will give you 3,000 more and then you will be at 23,600,000, and then it will go up by 10,000 and you will be gone and out of here sooner rather than later!”
“Fine let’s do it your way.”
A little while later.
“As you can see, I am a man of my word. Let me show you out, if I am ever in need of your services again, I will contact you.”
“After you.”
‘What is taking the doctor so long.’
30 minutes later.
“All right sir you can come back in.”
“Did you find anything else that is wrong with her?”
“No, she is fine. How old is she? She is quite small.”
“She is almost 4 years old. You say she is small. Is there something wrong with her being small? As you know I know nothing of children.”
“She is small for her age. Do you know anything about her mother’s pregnancy? If she carried to term or if the child was born premature?”
“Sadly, I don’t know any of that information. I am sure I could find out if it is of real importance.”
“No, it’s really not important. She is in really good health other than it will take her a while to recover from this ordeal.”
“Thank you, doctor. I have one other request.”
