Chapter 56

It’s another day for Gaus, but this time it will be different. He finally had the courage to tell his feelings to Cytherea. For him, it was an informal confession because he confessed in the middle of the mall without anything in hand but his sincere heart. He knows that Cytherea deserves more and he intends to give it to her. Gaus was very busy reviewing the documents for the expansion of his hotels. His forehead creased while studying the documents when suddenly he heard a knock. He looked up from the documents to see who it was. He saw his secretary coming forward with a small box in her hand. “Sir, this box came and it’s under your name,” his secretary politely stated. She handed over the box to him which he immediately accepted. His eyebrows creased, even more, when he only saw his name. He looked at his secretary and said, “Thank you. You can go now.” “Yes, Sir.” Gaus looked at his secretary till she was finally out of his office. He also glanced at the door of the penthouse before he opened the box. It was a small box wrapped in plain black cover with a red ribbon on it and a card that had his name on it. It says: Gaus Philip Raynott, My Rival He unwrapped the wrapper in a messing way. His brows knitted as he opened the box and saw the wooden jewelry box. He took it out of the box and his eyes widened as he saw what was inside it. His breath quickens as he sees the dead rat with its eyes wide opened. He drew a long breath. He couldn’t believe that someone would send it to him, but he is not afraid. It is not something like this that will hinder him from doing what he wants to do. He chuckled. He already knows who did this. If Astilbe is always watching Cytherea, for sure he already knows that he already confessed to her. And this will not waver him. He was about to close the lid when he noticed another note. It was the size of a regular sticky note. But instead of handwritten, they were cut-off words from a newspaper which were pasted on it. It reads: This will happen to you if you will not stop. She is mine. He smirked and ran his fingers through his hair. This is the scene in which Cytherea witnessed. She just got out from the penthouse with Athena when she noticed Gaus reading something from the sticky note. He looked annoyed but at the same time in a combatant mode. It seemed like what he's reading is some sort of a challenge for a fight. It was unintentional when he looked in their direction and saw them getting out from the penthouse. He looked so surprised when he saw and immediately put the sticky note inside the wooden box and closed it. Like it was something that she doesn’t need to see. He gave them a forced smile as if he didn’t do anything weird. He opened his drawer to the right and put the box inside. He tapped the top of his table using his two fingers and stood up. He smiled at them again and walked towards them. “Hi,” he greeted while looking intently at Cytherea. “Hi,” Cytherea answered shyly. They felt awkward as they were looking at each other like two teenagers who got to talk to their crushes for the first time. Athena giggled at the sight of the two. Both of them looked at Athena with a puzzled look. “I’m sorry,” Athena said, still giggling. “It’s just that both of you look so cute. So, I’m going to leave you two alone so both of you can have time to talk, and then I’m going to wait for you at the lobby okay, Bestie?” She teased. She didn’t wait for the two to respond. She walked towards the door and left them. Gaus shyly scratches the back of his head. He’s still finding words to say to her. Cytherea giggled, “We indeed look weird just like what Athena said.” Gaus chuckled, “Yeah for some odd reason, I don’t know how to start a conversation with you. My heart couldn’t help but start beating rapidly whenever you are near. You see, this is the first time that I confessed to a woman. I had never been able to get into serious relationships before. Flings, yes but I didn’t even try courting them. So, this whole to me is very new and I hope it will not turn you off.” Cytherea couldn’t help but smile. She can feel the sincerity of Gaus. And if she’s going to be true to herself, she will admit that slowly she’s starting falling for Gaus. He is not difficult to fall in love with. Gaus is a very lovable person. He had been helping her since the time the first time they met up until now. But deep inside her, she is still hesitating to accept him in her life because up until now, Ares still never gotten the justice that he deserves and the killer is not yet caught. She was lost in words and didn't know how to respond. She couldn’t help but bite her lips while looking down. She can feel her face burning and she doesn’t want Gaus to see it. He chuckled again and held both Cytherea’s hands to make her look up to him in which he was successful. Cytherea looked up to him and he was lost again in her eyes. He closed his eyes tightly as if he was getting some sort of courage from it so he could say what he wanted to say. He cleared his throat several times before opening his eyes and stared at Cytherea’s eyes intently. “Can I ask you out tonight?” With all the bravery, he asked. “Ummm…” “Please?” He begged the moment he saw the hesitation in her eyes. She looked at his pleading eyes, hoping that she would say yes. She wanted to say no but just imagining the sadness and hurtful look in Gaus eyes, made her heart clenched. She smiled at him. “Okay,” she answered after a couple of minutes of silence.
