Chapter 32 - The Caller

1057 Words
Gaus was furious and called the police immediately. The police were quick to respond and are now investigating her room. While it is an ongoing investigation, Cytherea has to evacuate the room.   Cytherea had decided to stay in Gaus' private room. She was still hesitant to do it, but she doesn’t have any choice anymore. No matter how tight the security in the hotel, Astilbe still managed to get in her room and left her with a bunch of flowers.   She looked around the private room of Gaus, which is on the top floor. It is an extension of his office. Anyone who tries to go to the private room needs to enter Gaus’ office first. It doesn't look like a private room. It was more extravagant, like a penthouse. It has its living room and kitchen aside from the bedroom and bathroom.    "Where are you going to stay, Gaus?" Cytherea asked the moment Gaus entered the bedroom.   "I will stay in the office. I have a sofa bed, so that works for me."    "I'm so sorry I have to bother you like this," she said apologetically.    "Nah, don't mention it. By the way, one of the hotel staff will take note of what you need. Unfortunately, we can't get any of your things in your room. The police said they have to go through everything. They will be going to give us a go signal once it's okay for you to get your things."   Cytherea nodded and sat on the bed. She sighed. It's been a long day. She thought she could at least take a rest for a while, but she was so wrong.   Gaus noticed the sad expression on Cytherea's face. He wanted to hug her and tell her that everything's going to be fine, but he knew that it would not be enough for someone who just lost a fiancé.    "I'll leave you alone, Cy, so that you can rest. I'll knock on your door once the food is here so you can eat too."   Cytherea didn't respond. She just smiled and nodded.    Gaus returned her smile before closing the door.   She sighed. She slumped herself on the bed with arms wide open. Her eyes began to blur again because of the tears forming in her eyes. The silence is killing her. She took her phone from her bag and scrolled over her gallery. Each picture shows her and Ares. Both of them are smiling. They looked so madly in love with each other and having a good time.   Suddenly, her phone rings. It was an unknown number. She was hesitant to answer it but thought it's someone important. She's the type of person who doesn't give out phone numbers easily and answers unknown callers. And if it's a scam, she usually blocks the number right away.   She pushes the answer call button and puts the phone against her ear.    "Hello?"    No one answered, but she can hear the breathing of the person from the other line.   "Hello?" she asked again.   There still is no answer.   Cytherea took a deep breath, trying to control her annoyance.   "Hello? If you're still not going to answer, I'm going to hang up, and I'm going to block you so you couldn't contact me anymore!"   There was still no answer. She was about to disconnect the call when a deep husky voice called her name.   "Cytherea…"   "Who's this?" She got up and sat again on the bed. Her eyebrows furrowed.   "I-I'm sorry. "   Her heart started beating faster as he heard those words.   "A-astilbe?" she stuttered. She bit her lips as her tears fell endlessly from her eyes.   "I didn't mean to," the caller sobbed.   "Is that the reason why you gave me orchids and purple hyacinth? I know those flowers meant 'I'm sorry. Did you kill Ares? Why? Why!" Cytherea's emotions took over her, and she couldn't help but yell.   Gaus heard Cytherea's yell from the office, so he immediately knocked on the door.   Cytherea heard the knock, but she ignored it. She's more focused on Astilbe.    "Cy? Are you okay? I heard you screaming. Are you okay?"   Cytherea ignored Gaus' call. "Tell me, why did you do it? Why did you kill Ares? Why?!"   Gaus can still hear Cytherea's scream like she's arguing with some. He couldn't wait for her to answer him. He was already worried that probably the killer already knows where Cytherea is. He opened the door and there he saw Cytherea holding a phone, crying.   "Cy," he called her to get her attention.    Cytherea put her pointing finger on her lips to signal him not to create a sound. She put the phone into speaker mode so that Gaus can also hear the caller. He nodded and was just staring at her.   “All I think about is your happiness, Cy. I didn’t kill Ares. I just want to talk to him. He is a bad person. Cytherea. A terrible person.”   “What do you mean?” she asked.  She was so confused at what he said.   Ares is bad? What does he mean?   “All I think about is your happiness, Cy. I didn’t kill Ares. I just want to talk to him.”   “What do you mean?” she asked again.   “All I think about is your happiness, Cy. I didn’t kill Ares. I just want to talk to him.”   “Why do you keep on repeating that? I heard you! What do you--”   “All I think about is your happiness, Cy. I didn’t kill Ares. I just want to talk to him.”   “For Christ’s sake, what do you mean?!” Cytherea was getting frustrated as the caller keep on repeating the same sentences over and over again.   “All I think about is your happiness, Cy. I didn’t kill Ares.”   “My God! I heard that. What do you mean Ares is bad?!” Cytherea screamed.   “All I think about is your happiness, Cy.”   Cytherea cried even more. The caller sounded like a broken record. It kept on repeating the same sentences again and again until the voice got distorted.   “A-all I thidhkunk abskajdout is your happknnjgkiness, Cy.”
