ENZO
Athena's mother was in a pitiful state. But I couldn't let her out just yet. She was my leverage over Athena. A healer would be sent to check on her later.
I saw the bottles of pills that were scattered there and immediately knew who had come to visit.
Little Astra, the b***h had bitten me when Athena told her about our arrangement. Something that she paid for dearly. A slap to Astra naturally and a good beating for Athena. That s**t her up about our affairs.
So much so that she ended up as my mistress and not my mate. Then the b***h had the nerve to cheat on me and try to pass on another man's child as mine!
Athena has a lot to answer for. I just needed a way to get in contact with her. Her mother should be useful.
“Tidy this place up, she's the mother of the Luna of this pack!" I hissed at the guards, who moved to do as I asked.
In this pack, appearances were everything. The woman in question began to cough violently, and I took a few steps backwards. Whatever it was that she had, I had no interest in having it.
She stopped coughing on her own and leaned against the wall. I walked to her, then pretended to care about her health.
“Aurora, you don't look so well. Why didn't you send a message when your symptoms weren't this severe? I would have sent healers to you earlier. At least for the sake of your daughter -” I didn't say past that when I felt something wet hit my face.
I shut my eyes by instinct and refused to open my mouth. The smell of blood filled the air. I took out my handkerchief and wiped my face.
I opened my eyes to see spittle and blood. This b***h just spat whatever disease that was wasting her lungs on me!
“Alpha!" The guards cried out, and I realized I had the woman by the neck. She, on the other hand, didn't look scared at all.
“It's only a matter of time before the whole world knows the kind of monster you are! Mark my words, Enzo. You are not a true Alpha, and you will pay with your life for the humiliation you put my daughter through and all that you have stolen from her!" Aurora said to me, even though she was wheezing due to difficulty breathing.
The guards went silent, and I knew it was time to ditch this joint. Now was not a good time to have gossip circulating the pack. My heir was yet to be born.
“Alpha, I'll instruct the men not to say anything," the leader of the prison guards said to me as we stepped away from the prison. I sighed deeply. I needed to wash off this woman's insult from my face.
“There's no need, it will only make matters worse. I have nothing to hide, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. Have one of the healers come and check her in the morning. I want a report on that visit," I said to the leader of the prison guards.
He gave me a firm nod before leaving.
When I got back to the pack house, I found Astra trailing after one of the pack healers, who looked to have denied whatever request that she had.
When they set their eyes on me, they bowed in respect, and the healer took it as an opportunity to escape Astra's hold.
I cleared my throat to get Astra's attention. When she turned, she glared at me with so much hatred that I took a step back.
“Why do you look like you want to kill me? I haven't done anything recently to earn your hateful glare," I said to her, hoping to lighten the tone, but her glare got fiercer, reminding me of the sister who wasn't there.
“I promise you, Alpha Enzo, if anything happens to my mother, you will have a lot to deal with from me. Every lie, deceit, scheme, every single thing that I know will be revealed to everyone! I swear it! If anything happens to my mother, you would wish you were the one who was sent on that suicide mission rather than my sister!” Astra hissed at me before turning to walk away.
But she walked right into her father's slap.
"How dare you speak to the alpha that way?! Is that how you were raised?!” Azul yelled at his daughter, who held her cheek and was now glaring at him.
"As if you would know anything about raising a child, you bastard!” Astra said to Azul. Her outburst left him in shock as she stormed away.
When he recovered, he turned to me with an apology.
“Forgive me, Alpha. It seems I have lost grip on my family, and this has resulted in the insult that you just received. I beg for your forgiveness," Azul said to me, and I nodded my head.
It was not his fault.
“It's nothing. She's just upset that her mother is not doing well with her current accommodation. I'll ask the healers to go and do a round and get back to me,” I said to Azul, who shook his head.
"Nonsense! She should be left to pay for her crimes! Her daughter tried to pin the child of another man on you with her help!” Azul said to me, and I smiled at him.
He truly was the best advisor I could have asked for.
"All the same, it will not be good for us if word gets out that we left her to die. The least we can do is allow her to be looked over. I never promised that she would receive treatment,” I said to Azul, who smiled at me. Though I could see that his smile was getting uneasy.
“As you wish, sir. You know I will always stand by your decisions," he said to me with a bow.
“Adequate, now go and teach that brat how to talk to an Alpha," I said to Azul and walked away.
