Chapter 13: Alexis

1125 Words
Today Jessa and I are going shopping to get my dress and suits for Kai and Killian. As today is Saturday, Jayden, Micah, Ryder, Jax and Aaron are taking the boys fishing. Jayden had mentioned he might ask his father to go as well, so he could meet the boys in a public place. Kai and Killian were so excited. They have wanted to go fishing for a while, but I was never able to take them as I didn’t know how to fish. After Jessa picks me up from Jayden’s, we head to the mall that is just outside of town. It will have everything we need. I know I should have told someone, but for roughly a week now I feel like I am constantly being watched. I haven't been able to find any proof, so I kept it to myself. “Lex, thank you so much for coming back to help me. I know it was hard for you to do. But I am also glad that you have been able to work things out with Jayden. He was so miserable these last 4 years without you.” Jessa says suddenly. “Anytime Jessa. I’m happy again too, and the boys love having their daddy around. Now the serious question is, please tell me you aren’t going to put me in any tutti-fruity colored monstrosity of a dress.” I replied while laughing. “No, I won’t be. My bridesmaids have red dresses, but I wanted yours to be different.” She says, smiling at me. We keep talking about random things on the way to the mall as well as wedding stuff. Once we finally got to the mall and park, Jessa and I walked around looking in the kid’s stores for the boy’s clothes. After about a half hour, she finds the perfect suit for the two of them. Jessa heads back to the car to put the suits there, so we don’t have to walk around with them. I told her that I would go and get a coffee for us and wait in the food court for her. While I am waiting for Jessa to come back, I get a message on my phone. Thinking it was probably Jayden giving me an update about the fishing trip, I grabbed my phone and checked it. Furrowing my brow at the unknown number that had sent me a message, I opened it to see what it said. Unknown: 1, 2…….. Someone’s coming for you. 3, 4…….. Will you be left at death’s door? 5, 6…….. You better get there quick. 7, 8…….. Don’t be late. 9, 10…… This is the end. Me: Angie, if this is you, f**k off right now. I am not falling for you bullshit again. Grow up. When no response comes through, I assume it’s just Angie with another one of her mind games. Not long after, Jessa comes back, calling me a lifesaver for her coffee. I tell her about the weird message I got from Angie. She tells me to send it to Jayden and Jax, just so they know that she’s done it again and that nothing else has come through once you called her out. I do as she suggests and after getting a call from Jayden telling me to be careful and Aaron losing his s**t in the background, about if it doesn’t stop soon he will make sure it does. I told them I would be careful and let them know when I got home from shopping with Jessa. We finish our coffees and start looking for a dress. We look at a few boutiques, but Jessa doesn’t see anything she likes. After looking for another 2 hours, she even went back to a few of the stores we had already been to because she wanted to re-look at a dress she had liked, just to nix it again. I told Jessa I was heading to the bathroom, and I would meet her at the next store she was going to. I meet Jessa at the store just as she is getting handed a garment bag. She turns to see me there and smiles brightly at me. “I walked in and straightaway I found your perfect dress. I knew your size, so I got it. We can go now and, before you even decide to ask, No I am not showing it to you. It’s going to be a surprise.” She says as she laughs at me. I pout and then burst out laughing as we headed back to the car. I have honestly missed this with Jessa. Once we are back in the car, she puts the dress with the suits and slides into her Mercedes G-wagon. Jessa pulls out of the park and then exits the mall. We decide to go to a diner for lunch before we head back home. I text Jayden and let him know what our plans are then I turn back to talk with Jessa. As we are heading to the major intersection in town that will take us to the diner, I start to feel uneasy. I tried to shake it off as me just falling into the mind game that Angie tried playing with me earlier. As we approach the intersection, we get stopped at a red light. Jessa’s car was the first car in line at the lights. We are talking about what we have left to do for the wedding and what we want to do when we get back home, as it will be a few hours before the kids are back with their daddy and uncles from their fishing trip. Everything happens so quickly, Jessa’s waiting for the lights to change, when suddenly around us there are horns tooting and people shouting and screaming. Looking around, we don’t see anything out of the ordinary. I honestly wish I had paid more attention, as once I stopped looking, it was like it appeared out of nowhere, there was a semi-truck barreling towards us, and they weren’t slowing down. I told Jessa to quickly jump out of the car, or she would be badly hurt or worse killed. She gets her seat belt undone and as soon as the door opens I know that we both won’t make it if we try to jump now. I turned towards Jessa, leaned over the console and pushed her as hard as I could. She flies out of the car and lands onto the road face first just as the semi hits her car. The last thing I remember hearing is the sound of glass breaking, the grinding and crunching of metal and intense pain. After that, nothing but darkness.
