WARNING: MENTIONS MISCARRIAGE
Today has been an amazing day. I took the boys fishing with their uncles and their grandpa. They had so much fun and they even caught a few small fish. They couldn't wait to get home and tell their Mom all about their day. When I got home, the boys ran off to their rooms to play, while dad sat with me in the loungeroom, and we spoke about the boys and whatever else came to mind.
Who would have thought that my perfect day would crash around me with one phone call that changed everything!
After receiving the call from the hospital that Lexi and Jessa had been in a car accident, I let her brothers know, and we all raced to the hospital to check on them. I left Kai and Killian with Aaron and Mila, while I went to see if I could find out what was going with Lexi. Ryder had gone to find out what he could about Jessa. I get to the nurses station and wait for her to finish what she’s doing.
“Can I help you?” The nurse says.
“Yes, I am looking for Alexis Grimm. She was brought in recently via ambulance. My name is Jayden Blackwell, I am her fiancée.” I told her.
She types on her computer for a few minutes before she looks up at me with sympathy in her eyes. She says she will just get the Doctor for me. My body goes numb and all I can think is please let her be OK, please don’t let me lose her again.
“Mr Blackwell?” A doctor said, walking towards me.
I nodded my head, yes.
“I’m Dr. Stevens. I’ve been treating your fiancé since she was brought in this afternoon. As you know, Alexis and her sister were involved in a car accident. Their car was hit head on by a semi-truck that ran a red light while driving recklessly. Alexis sustained the worst of the injuries as she pushed her sister out of the car before the truck hit them. Unfortunately, she was still in the car at the time of impact. She has sustained a broken leg, a broken arm, four broken ribs, and she did have some internal bleeding that needed surgery to stop. Her head trauma is bad. She has a grade 4 concussion and is currently in an induced coma. We are still running tests on her as well to make sure we don’t miss any injuries. All I can say, Mr Blackwell, is, I have no idea how she survived. Most people would have been dead on impact from the speed the truck was going and how she was positioned in the car. She is in the Intensive care unit and will be there for a while. All we can do now is monitor and wait and see how she goes. We will keep you informed.” with that he walked away.
I headed back to Jax, Micah and my father and explained to them what the doctor told me. Jax leaves for a few minutes to fill Aaron in on what is happening. I feel like I’m walking through mud and my head feels like it’s stuffed with cotton. I have no clue what to do. Just as Jax gets back from calling Aaron, Ryder comes back to let us know about Jessa. He told us that she has a lot of scrapes and bruises from when she hit the asphalt. She also has a mild concussion and a broken wrist. She was lucky to get very few injuries as Lexi had pushed Jessa out of the car and away from everything just in time before the truck hit. He said Jessa would be released in a few days.
Once they leave, and a nurse finally comes to get me, I am taken to the ICU waiting room. I sat down in the waiting room chair and cried. I’ve just gotten her back. I am not going to lose her again. It feels like hours since someone has come and told me something, anything about her. I am going out of mind. After pacing for a while, I saw Dr. Stevens was walking towards me. I stop my pacing and wait for him to get to me.
“Jayden, her condition has not changed a lot. But there is something that I wanted to let you know, and I am truly sorry to be the one to deliver bad news. Alexis started bleeding heavily from her pelvic area suddenly. No-one knew what it was straight away, but after blood tests and an ultrasound, I am sorry to inform you that Alexis had a miscarriage.” Dr. Stevens says.
“What? She was pregnant. We didn’t know,” I said. Shock racing through me.
The Doctor nods his head, confirming it is correct. He apologizes again then asks if I would like to sit with her for a while. I said yes, and we then headed into the ICU ward.
Once I get to Lexi and see her for the first time since the accident, I drop to my knees and cry again. I cry because she is hooked up to so many different machines to keep her alive. I cried as I looked at her bruised and battered body. I cry because our sons can’t have their mama at home because of someone’s recklessness and, finally, I cry because she was going to bless us with another child, but now that has been snatched away. After crying for a while and talking to her, telling her she has to get better for the boys and for me. I finally pull myself together, and I suddenly remember the message she sent me earlier. My grief and sadness turns into anger. If I find out that this was set up to hurt Alexis, I am going to make every last motherfucker involved pay. By the time I’m finished with them, they will be begging for death.
They took my son's mama away from them, they took away our baby, they took away my butterfly, my soulmate, they took away a loving sister and friend. How am I going to tell Lexi when she wakes up that the baby we didn't know about is gone because of this? How do I tell her that I believe this is the work of Angie? I am furious right now, but I reign it in as my butterfly needs me. I took a seat beside her bed and held her tiny hand in mine. While stroking my thumb over her hand, I grabbed a small box out of my pocket. I was planning on taking her and the boys to the lake for a picnic tonight, and I was going to ask her to marry me again. I took the beautiful white gold ring out with a beautiful black diamond in the center with 3 sapphires next to it. Two sapphires on the left and one on the right of the diamond. The sapphires symbolize the boys and I, while the black diamond is Lexi's favorite gemstone.
I slip the ring onto her finger and kiss her hand once its on. I can't help but cry again at the injustice of all this. This is happening all because one psycho refuses to take no for an answer.
"Lexi, I promise you from the bottom of my heart that no matter what, I will get the person who did this to you. Butterfly, I do have one request. Please come back to us. I need you, our sons need you. Our families need you. I need you to fight with all that you have. I need you to wake up so we can raise our sons together, so we can finally get married, so we can have more children when the time is right, so I can see those beautiful eyes of yours again. Butterfly, please come back to us, we need you."
