*** The next morning: Abbie woke up around 8 to make Josh and James breakfast.
Slipping on a t-shirt and shorts, she quietly went downstairs and grabbed a pan to cook some bacon and the griddle to make some homemade waffles.
Just as she put plates and silverware on the table, she heard footsteps from upstairs. "Abbie?"
"Good morning, Josh."
"You made breakfast?"
"Yes. I'll make you a plate."
"Oh, that's not necessary."
"Sit. Would you like some coffee? I can mix up a cinnamon latte for you."
"Sure."
Nodding, Abbie grabbed a coffee cup and made the latte.
Smiling, she gave him the cup and plate of food. "Enjoy."
She made herself a plate and poured a glass of orange juice. "Not a coffee person?"
"I am, just not in the mood this morning."
"Oh my god, this latte is amazing. How did you make it?"
"My secret." She sat next to Josh and listened to him compliment her about how good the breakfast tasted.
"I've never met a woman who cooks."
"What?"
"All of my girlfriends ordered s**t. But not you."
"Nope. My grandmother taught me when I was little."
"What about your parents?"
"My mom left my father and I when I turned thirteen and once my father got remarried, I haven't talked to him in four years."
"Oh. I'm sorry."
"Don't be. His wife and kid hate me."
Josh shook his head. "Anyone would be crazy to hate you."
Abbie's never felt this relaxed having a conversation with anyone. It felt like she could tell Josh anything even though they just met. "I like talking to you."
Josh smirked and slid his hand up Abbie's thigh. "I like talking to you too. But I want to tell you something."
"What?"
"I think..."
"You think what?"
The sound of James's voice startled both Abbie and Josh. "That Abbie is an amazing cook."
Josh looked at Abbie and nodded. He literally just saved both of their asses. "Would you like some breakfast, babe?"
James shook his head. "I'm not hungry."
"Dude, her food is amazing. You need to try some."
"I said no."
Josh shrugged. "Your loss."
"Are you done?" Abbie asked.
"Yes. Thank you."
She picked up his plate and put it in the dishwasher. "I have to go. I'm going to be late."
"Where to?" Josh asked.
"Class."
"Where do you go?"
"UCLA."
"Very nice."
Abbie nodded and ran up the stairs to get dressed. "I think you're getting a little too close for comfort, dude."
Josh looked at his brother and scowled. "What?"
"You know exactly what I mean."
"Are you saying that I'm hitting on your girlfriend?"
James rolled his eyes. "Isn't that obvious?"
"I wouldn't do that to you."
"I..."
"I'm leaving, I'll see you guys later." The sound of Abbie's voice startled both men.
"Sounds good babe."
