A Sickness (Part Two)

Albert

" You really think both could be with child?" James asked him.

" It would be slim but it could be anything" Albert told him.

" It's Annabelle that would be the problem, no way to know who the father is" James told him as the King quickly closed the door behind him.

" We both know it would be your child no matter what" Albert told him and James nodded.

" I'm just guessing that's what's happening, it's very strange they are showing similar symptoms at the same time" the king told him.

" We've been very careful with Annabelle though" James told him.

" It can still happen. Try not to stress about it just yet. I'll have the doctor look at Annabelle once he's figured out what's wrong with the Queen" he told James as he opened the door and went over to his wife's room.

" Whats going on?" she asked him sitting up in her bed.

" Annabelle is sick too with whatever you have" he told her laying down beside her and holding her hand.

" Oh no I hope she's ok" she told him.

" She's sleeping right now, James is taking care of her and I'm looking after you" he told her.

" That's very kind of you" she told him with a small smile.

" You're my wife, I'm always concerned for you" he told her as she laughed.

" We're more of a traditional King and Queen marriage then a husband and wife" she told him.

" I make time for you just like you asked me, I'm trying to prove to you I want us to be more" he told her as she just rolled her eyes.

" To be fair Albert neither of us knows what a real marriage looks like" she told him as she started to shake.

He wrapped his arms around her tightly and pulled the blanket upto them " Is this better?" he asked and she nodded.

" I'm sorry I'm all over the place today" she told him.

" It's alright, it feels normal instead of you just not saying anything" he told her kissing the top of her head.

After some time had passed there was a knock at the door " Come in" Albert said and in walked the doctor.

" I hear our Queen isn't feeling well today, what's going on?" the doctor asked her as he made his way to her bed.

" I'm really weak and dizzy, I was physically sick a fair bit last night" she told the doctor as he listened.

" Have you gotten sick since last night?", he asked her and she shook her head no.

" Could she be with child?" Albert asked him and Charlotte let out a laugh.

" Albert, it's highly unlikely I'm with child my cycle just ended last week remember?" she told him and he looked at her a little confused.

" That's why we wernt intimate last week" she told him raising an eyebrow.

It dawned on him in that moment, the reason he didn't remember he was intimate with Annabelle that entire week.

He pretended to sigh " How silly of me, I do remember now" he said kissing her head.

" It sounds to me like you ate something that didn't agree with you, should pass in a few days. But we will keep an eye on in, if it gets worse let me know" the doctor told her.

" So whatever this is got to Annabelle too, I know this isn't typically how it's done. But could you please go check on her as well?" Annabelle asked the doctor and he gave her a puzzled look.

" Your right hand is also sick?" he asked and she nodded.

" With similar symptoms?" he asked and she once again nodded.

He let out a cough " That's very interesting, where is she resting I'll go check on her as well" the doctor said.

" She's across the hallway in my bedroom" Albert told him.

James

He hadn't felt this worried in a long time. What if the King was right and Annabelle was pregnant? The Queen being pregnant was one thing. It brings joy to the Kingdom, the new heir to the throne. But if Annabelle was pregnant it would be a forever mystery who the real father was. A mystery only the three of them would know, even if it was blatantly obvious it was the Kings child it never would be. The child would never be the heir to the throne.

The door suddenly opened and it was the doctor James gave him a small smile.

" How long has she been sleeping?" the doctor asked.

" At least an hour" James responded.

" Wake her please I have questions " the doctor instructed.

James let out a cough " I think it's better if she rested" he said.

" Fine. What's her symptoms and for how long has she had them?" the King asked.

" I know she was complaining about being weak and dizzy, she did faint that's how we knew she was sick too" he told him when the doctor cut him off.

"Did she hit her head when she fell?" the doctor asked him.

" No I was fortunate enough to catch her before she fell" James told him.

" How long has she been sick for?" he asked James.

" I'm not too sure" James said when he was cut off again.

" That's what I figured, wake her up" the doctor said.

James sighed and gently started shaking Annabelle to get her to wake up. She groaned and stirred abit before slowly opening her eyes.

" Whats going on?" she asked in a daze.

" The doctor is here to see you about your sickness " James told her rubbing her back.

" I don't even know what happened, I was running around taking care of the Queen and now I'm in this bed. but I can answer as best as I can" she told the doctor.

" How long have you been experiencing your symptoms?" he asked.

" I've been feeling fine until I fainted " she told him.

" So you haven't gotten sick?" he asked and she shook her head no.

" Alright then, James I need to talk to you and the King for a moment. Where should we talk?" the doctor asked him.

" Uh by the stairs I guess that way we can be close by. I'll be right back" James said kissing her forehead.

James knocked on the queens door " Sir the doctor wants to talk to both of us in the hallway" James told him as he opened the door.

" I'll be right back" he told the Queen kissing her cheek.

" The Queen and the other one have very similar symptoms, the only difference is the Queen has been getting physically sick so far. Based on what I've been told it doesn't seem like either is with child, it doesn't sound like an illness either" the doctor told them when he paused.

" So what do you think this is?" the king asked him.

The doctor sighed " It sounds like someone poisoned them" the doctor said.
