"Bethany's Enigma"
Chapter 1
I was freezing and barely able to control my breath, but I kept
running through the forest in the dead of night with every
strength I could muster. She had no idea of the time , and I
could hardly see in the foggy forest of the lost after all the
moon was not so bright tonight, but that was the least of my
problems now.
I have to get away from the beast chasing me, I was not sure
what animal it was but just the fact that it was in the forest of
the lost was enough to leave me in a traumatizing state of
panic.
I can't believe I escaped the villagers who were after my life,
but now I'm moments away from being devoured by a beast I
don't even know. She knew it was only a matter of time till the
monster caught her, because; her lungs were hurting, she was
taking in and releasing such deep breath and her eyes could
barely stay opened. She ran not knowing where she was going
till she ran off a cliff. To her surprise, one minute there was
land beneath her feet now she's falling to my death.
As she fell to her death she could only regret one thing , not
knowing what it was like to be cared for , she has been treated
like garbage and a curse for as long as she could remember, it
all became this way after the death of her parent and little
sister in one night leaving her all alone at a young age.
Why didn't I die there with my family, why was I kept alive for
this long... it doesn't matter really, I'll see them soon, anyways;
so maybe it's not so bad. *splash, she fell into a river , this
would have been a relieve, like a silver lining, but she was out
of breath from running so much that she couldn't stop herself
from struggling in the river for air, and to make matters worse,
the river current was so strong and taking her for a spin in
different directions.
Bethany felt helpless at that moment. Her consciousness was
fading, this was it for her. There was no escaping this at all.Just as she lost the strength to struggle and was about closing her
eyes and wait for the inevitable when she heard someone call
her name. "Bethany", the voice called sweetly with so much
love, then she saw a blurry figure of a woman who extended a
hand to her. "Mom?" she thought in disbelief, then the figure
became clear enough for her to see her mother having a bright
smile on her face with her hands stretched out Lovingly
towards Bethany. "Mom!!", Bethany thought frantically as she
tried to get hold of her hands she unexpectedly but fortunately
grabbed a vine instead, which she held unto and used to pull
herself out from the river and laid under a tree.
Her heart was pounding, she was breathing at an alarming
rate she couldn't summon the strength to even move and she
was shivering so much from the cold as she was completely
drenched. "Mom does not want me to die, but how am I
supposed to live in this world with so much hate towards me",
she said to herself while try to hold back her tears.
She just laid there, under the tree to rest. as her eyelids were
about to go shot, she saw a figure looking down at her from
above, it really didn't matter to her anymore, she has cheated
death so many times and plus she was utterly exhausted, so
reacting was a pointless effort. "Wh - who'ss iiii?", her voice
softly declined as she lost consciousness.
"I love your red hair and your blue eyes sister Bethany, it truly
is unique. I wish I was as pretty as you", Evelyn said while
pouting. " what are you saying Evy? As pretty as me? You are
ten times more pretty... hmmm, make that one thousand times
more prettier than me. Who in the whole world can compare to
my lovely Evy.... aww!! You look so cute I could just eat you
right now... *roar!!" Bethany said playful which made Evelyn
laugh very hard, * suddenly she open her eyes and figured out
it was a dream.
I wish i could just keep dream forever, that would be the bes-
wait a minute, I'm still alive and lying down on a bed of leaves
and there's even a dying fire close to me to keep me warm, I
guess it must have been burning all night but that isn't what
matters now. Who could have helped me cheat death again?
while still puzzled she tried to get up to check out where she
was and hopefully see if she could find the person who helped
her. Just as she was about struggling to get up, "you shouldn't
try getting up when you haven't fully recovered."
A commanding but strangely calm and soothing voice said
from behind, she quickly turned to find a dashing well built tall
young man with long hair as white as snow, skin so smooth and almost pale white in complexion and a dignified beastly
movement. She could only make out those details as he walked
towards her holding three rabbits. As he got close to Bethany
she began to see him in more details and without a doubt he
was ultimately a dashing man that calling him handsome
would be an understatement.
Bethany's eyes widened in surprise as the mysterious man
approached, holding three rabbits. His presence seemed oddly
comforting. She couldn't help but feel a mix of curiosity and
gratitude. "Thank you for saving me," she managed to say, her
voice still weak.
"It's fine, just rest up while you can " he said nonchalantly as he
squatted to reignite the dying flames while laying the rabbits
on the ground. He gathered leaves together blew on it till the
once dying flames began to burn fine again. "You should come
close to the fire if you are feeling cold there", he said calmly
without even looking my way * "huh... me?" , "mmm!", she
replied softly while nodding as she moved to closer. As she got
closer, she began to just how breath taking he really was but
what caught her attention was his dazzling crimson coloured
eyes which was fierce but it had a strange pull to it almost
hypnotizing to be exact , it only made her admiration for him
grow even stronger.
