Did somebody get injured?
Miranda witnessed a couple of soldiers carrying a stretcher past her house and into the apartment next door.
A featurely, tall, robust man was behind them.
It occurred to Miranda that the injured man was one of Carson's subordinates.
Soon, echoes of Kate's anguished cries resonated from the neighboring yard.
As Miranda recollected, the young soldier had mentioned that the fallen man from the cliff was Edward, Kate's son.
Driven by curiosity, Miranda followed along to check on the situation.
Going next door and listening to the people discussing, Miranda learned that the snow had blocked the only road to the hospital, so they could not take Edward to the hospital in the town.
The only doctor in the army went out to purchase medicine before the snow and had not returned yet.
As it stood, Edward's leg had been impaled by a broken piece of wood, and the bleeding just wouldn’t stop.
Given that he was under the cliff for too long, his body was frozen, and he had fallen into a coma.
After learning the whole story, Miranda hurried back to her room and searched through a box for a bottle of styptic powder. This had been given to the original Miranda by her grandfather before she left home.
With the styptic powder, Miranda ran back to the next door and elbowed her way into the yard with her bloated body while grasping the medicine.
She stood behind Carson and poked him in the waist with her big, fat hand.
Carson, now frowning, turned his head to see Miranda, and his eyes grew gloomy.
"Miranda!" Carson furrowed his eyebrows, about to berate her when Miranda spread her hand to reveal a small white bottle of medicine in her palm.
She whispered into Carson's ear, "My grandfather gave it to me before I left home. It's styptic powder. Have it spread over Edward's wound, and it might stop the bleeding."
Upon hearing Miranda's words, Carson glanced at her eyes, attempting to discern any hint of deception or dishonesty.
However, as he stared at Miranda, she met his gaze calmly, emanating a composed demeanor that Carson had never witnessed from her before.
After regarding Miranda for a brief moment, Carson pulled her into Kate's kitchen and closed the door.
Inside the kitchen, Carson fixed his gaze upon Miranda, then accepted the medicine from her.
Shockingly, Miranda then saw Carson pull a sharp dagger from his waist, roll up his sleeve, and s***h his bulging veins.
The blood squirting out of his veins, he opened the bottle and sprinkled some powder on his wound.
Miranda had to admit Carson was a really tough guy.
A moment later, making sure the blood stopped flowing from his wound, Carson put down his sleeve and walked outside with the bottle of powder, followed by Miranda.
She saw the young warrior lying on the bed, his pants stained with blood.
A thick wooden stake ran through the middle of his thigh, blood pouring out of the wound.
As pale as Edward's face was, he still had rosy lips and maintained steady breathing with his eyes closed. Although he was in a coma, Miranda believed he was not in critical condition.
It was just that his leg was severely wounded, and he seemed to be running a fever. If he couldn't get medical attention in a few more hours, he might be in danger.
Carson handed the bottle to Andres, who was closest to Edward, and said, "It's styptic powder. Sprinkle it on him first and see if it works."
Andres took the medicine and immediately sprinkled it on Edward's thigh as Carson asked.
After the powder was used, the bleeding stopped in the wound within a few minutes.
Miranda judged that since it could be stopped with styptic powder, the stick must have missed the artery.
"It stops bleeding!" Andres cried in surprise. He looked up at Carson and caught a glimpse of Miranda, who was standing behind Carson with her head half out, his face turning grave again.
What was this nasty woman doing here?
Although the bleeding had stopped, Miranda didn't reckon Edward's condition had improved. The bleeding had ceased, but the stake remained lodged in his thigh, leaving Miranda uncertain about the extent of the damage inside.
And Edward was still unconscious, which might be because he had hit his brain. As a doctor, Miranda was eager to go up and check on him.
After all, it was a doctor's obligation to heal the wounded.
However, given her terrible reputation, if Miranda stepped forward in this situation, she could be caught and thrown out.
Now, the people gathered around Edward could do nothing but grow increasingly anxious.
And Kate sat on the side and sobbed the whole time.
Just then, a soldier came running in, panting.
Seeing him, Carson asked anxiously, "What's it like out there?"
"General Neils, I just checked it. The snow has covered a large area and we could not dig a passage to the town. And even if we try, snow is so thick that we have to dig for at least half a month." The warrior's voice trailed off. And finally, he said desperately, "If we had half a month, the snow would have melted away..."
Miranda's palms clenched unconsciously as she frowned.
Was she destined to possess such medical expertise, only to be rendered helpless due to the tarnished reputation of the original soul of her body? Could she do nothing but witness this young life slip away before her eyes?
