Chapter 10 Refuse

761 Words
"Ms. James, I am not your student, so don’t tell me what to do!" Carson's tone was callous. As good-tempered as he was, he would not accept such a groundless accusation. Evie had always commanded respect in the area, believing herself to be well-educated and often enjoying lecturing others due to her college degree. But she had not expected Carson to retort her in front of so many people and show her no respect, causing her face to flush with embarrassment. Falling into a rage, she abruptly rose and stormed out, shouting to those still standing outside the apartment, "Can you believe General Neils let that shrew Miranda treat Edward! Just because he has power doesn’t mean he should let his wife do whatever she wants!" "Ms. James is right. Edward has suffered enough. Wouldn't it be torture for him if Miranda messed with him before he died?" "Yeah, Edward was on patrol when he fell off the cliff. If he dies, he will be a martyr. And Miranda can't insult him like that." There was a loud and unanimous discussion because no one could accept Miranda's treatment of Edward. Carson furrowed his eyebrows, feeling agitated. He called Kate out to speak alone because he was afraid things would turn out the way they did. He couldn't help but look at Miranda, who had been reaching out to examine Edward, unfazed by what was being said outside. Miranda was able to determine that Edward's internal organs were intact. Although he was unconscious, he was not in a deep coma, still feeling pain. If there were severe internal injuries, his expression must have changed under her pressure. "His internal organs are fine, so his nosebleeds are probably just from the bleeding of the nasal passages. Kate, do you have any sewing needles at home? Give them to me." "Sewing needles? I do." Kate didn't know what Miranda wanted the needles for, but she went looking for them. Miranda shifted her gaze to Carson. "Pour me a bowl of hot water." Having chosen Miranda to treat Edward, Carson naturally would comply with her request. With both items given to Miranda, she took the longer needles out of the sewing box and threw them into the boiling water. After disinfecting the needles by soaking them in boiling water, Miranda had Carson pour out the water. Then she reached out and lifted Edward's neck. At that moment, Carson couldn't help but ask, "Are you going to give him acupuncture?" "Yes." Miranda nodded. Everyone in the room then looked at her in astonishment. Acupuncture was a traditional medical skill, which wasn't easy to learn. Usually, people could only get the hang of it through at least ten years of systematic learning. So, why would Miranda have the courage to do acupuncture? Although everyone knew that the effect of acupuncture was excellent and it was also the most effective treatment method now, they were not assured since there was no professional tool. "Will it work?" Carson gave Miranda a hesitant look. Miranda did not answer, just pressed Edward's neck, grabbed the top part of the needle, and stuck it in his throat. She then pulled the covers off Edward and injected another needle into his heart area. Kate looked at the needles in her son's body, terrified and distressed, while Miranda looked at her calmly. With the last three needles, Miranda stuck Edward in the forehead. "Kate, remember that every needle in Edward's body is to keep him alive. Now Carson and I will go to the army's medical room to get some emergency medicine and equipment. You must not let anyone touch Edward until I return, or he will die." Perhaps Miranda's affirmative tone gave Kate strength, and she nodded firmly. "Miranda, go. You may rest assured that I will take good care of him." "Good." Miranda then stood up and called Carson, "Take me to the base clinic." "Okay." Carson nodded. He did not trust Miranda, but now that he had chosen her to treat Edward, he was firmly on her side and at her disposal. He thought that if he had misjudged and trusted the wrong person this time, then he would share the consequences with Miranda. They got up, about to leave for the clinic. But Evie stood in the doorway like a victorious rooster and said in a booming voice, "General Neils, we have just taken a collective vote and decided not to accept Miranda's treatment of Edward. You need to get Miranda out of here and stop her from hurting Edward!"
