Chapter 13 : The Bloodline Secret

673 Words
The storm arrived before dawn. Rain crashed against the tall palace windows while thunder rolled across the dark sky. Inside the ancient halls, the air felt tense, as if the palace itself was holding its breath. Aria barely slept. The words King Adrian had spoken the night before kept replaying in her mind. “Your past is connected to the royal bloodline.” She sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the faint morning light creeping through the curtains. Her heart felt restless, heavy with questions that refused to disappear. A sudden knock broke the silence. Before she could respond, the door slowly opened. King Adrian stepped inside. He looked different this morning—more serious than usual. His dark coat was damp from the rain, and his expression carried the weight of a man who had made a difficult decision. “You’re awake,” he said quietly. Aria stood up immediately. “You said you would tell me the truth.” For a moment, Adrian didn’t answer. His eyes moved around the room as if searching for the right words. Finally, he walked closer. “There are things about the royal family that the world doesn’t know,” he began. Aria crossed her arms, her patience running thin. “Then start explaining.” Adrian sighed softly. “Twenty years ago, the royal palace was attacked by enemies who wanted to destroy the royal bloodline.” Aria frowned. “I’ve heard stories about that war.” “Yes,” Adrian said. “But the story the world knows isn’t the full truth.” The rain outside grew heavier. “There was a royal child,” Adrian continued. “A child who was meant to inherit the throne one day.” Aria felt a strange chill run through her. “What happened to the child?” Adrian looked directly into her eyes. “The child disappeared during the attack.” The room fell silent. Aria’s voice came out barely above a whisper. “Why are you telling me this?” Adrian stepped even closer, his gaze intense. “Because that child… survived.” Aria’s heart skipped. “And?” she asked carefully. Adrian hesitated. Then he spoke the words that shattered her world. “Aria… you are that child.” Everything inside her froze. “No,” she said instantly, shaking her head. “That’s impossible.” But Adrian’s expression didn’t change. “Your mother was not just a servant. She was a royal protector. When the palace was attacked, she risked her life to take you away and hide you.” Aria’s mind spun with confusion. “All these years… she never told me.” “She was protecting you,” Adrian replied gently. “If the enemies knew you were alive, they would have hunted you.” Aria stepped backward, trying to process everything. “So you’re saying… I’m royalty?” Adrian nodded slowly. “You are the lost princess of this kingdom.” The words felt unreal. Her entire life had been built on a simple truth—that she was ordinary. Now that truth was gone. “Why are you telling me now?” she asked, her voice shaking. Adrian’s face darkened. “Because someone else has discovered the truth.” A cold fear spread through her chest. “What do you mean?” Adrian walked toward the window, staring at the storm outside. “Our enemies have returned.” Aria’s stomach twisted. “And if they find you…” He turned back to face her, his voice low and serious. “They won’t let the true heir live.” Lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating the room for a brief moment. And in that flash of light, Aria realized something terrifying. Her life had just become far more dangerous than she ever imagined.
