Chapter 12 : Shadows of the Past

607 Words
The wind howled outside the tall windows of the mansion, rattling the glass as if trying to break inside. The night felt heavier than usual, wrapped in a silence that carried secrets. Aria stood on the balcony, her hands resting lightly on the cold railing. The city lights shimmered below like scattered diamonds, but her mind was far away from the beauty of the night. She kept thinking about the letter she had found earlier that day. A letter hidden inside one of the king’s old books. It was old, the paper yellow and fragile. But the words written on it had shaken her completely. “The truth about Aria must never be revealed.” Those words echoed in her mind like a whisper she could not escape. Behind her, the balcony door opened quietly. Heavy footsteps approached. Aria didn’t turn around. She already knew who it was. “Why are you standing here alone?” King Adrian’s deep voice broke the silence. There was concern in his tone, something he rarely showed. Aria finally turned to face him. The moonlight fell across his sharp features, highlighting the seriousness in his dark eyes. “I found something today,” she said softly. Adrian’s expression changed instantly. “What did you find?” Aria stepped closer, holding the folded letter tightly in her hand. For a moment she hesitated, unsure whether she should reveal it. But something inside her told her she deserved the truth. She handed him the letter. Adrian opened it slowly. As his eyes moved across the words, his face hardened. A dangerous silence filled the space between them. “You weren’t supposed to see this,” he said quietly. Aria’s heart skipped. “So it’s true?” she asked. “There is something you’ve been hiding from me.” Adrian looked up at her, his gaze intense. “Yes.” The single word felt like a thunderstorm crashing into her chest. “Then tell me,” Aria demanded, her voice trembling slightly. “Who am I really?” Adrian ran a hand through his hair, clearly struggling with something. For the first time since she had met him, the powerful king looked… uncertain. “You are not just an ordinary girl, Aria,” he finally said. Her breath caught. “What does that mean?” Adrian stepped closer, his voice dropping lower. “Your past… is connected to the royal bloodline.” Aria froze. “That’s impossible.” “I wish it were,” Adrian replied. The wind grew stronger, swirling around them as if the night itself was reacting to the revelation. “Your mother didn’t just work for the royal family,” Adrian continued. “She protected a secret.” Aria’s heart pounded faster. “What secret?” Adrian looked at her with an expression she couldn’t fully understand. “A secret about you.” The world seemed to stop spinning. Aria felt as if the ground beneath her feet had disappeared. Everything she thought she knew about herself suddenly felt like a lie. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” she whispered. Adrian’s voice softened. “Because once you know the truth, there’s no turning back.” At that moment, thunder rumbled across the sky. A storm was coming. And Aria had the strange feeling that the storm outside was nothing compared to the storm that was about to change her life forever. If you want, I can also write: Chapter 13 (a shocking secret about Aria’s birth) Chapter 14 (a betrayal inside the palace) Chapter 15 (someone tries to kill Aria) Just tell me and I’ll continue the story.
