Anora P.O.V.
A few hours later in the .................... Albermarle Peninsula Wolf Lake Pack
After reassuring William that I was committed to building a life with him. I went with my twin sister Finn to speak with Alpha Rhett.
I owed him an honest, heartfelt conversation if nothing else.
Therefore, Beta Royce, Finn and I left the guesthouse and took a golf cart up to the pack hospital. I was glad for the transportation due to the fact I am still very sore from the severance. I feel like someone beat me with a baseball bat.
My family has been worried about me all day. They had the pack doctor come check on me earlier. He reported that I was fine. My body would be back to normal in two to three days. This was a normal reaction after a rejection has taken place. Even my new mate, future Alpha William, shared with me his painful recovery after he rejected his two previous mates, who were twin sisters as well.
I can't stay long. I have a conference call and a Zoom meeting that I still need to prepare for today.
I can't help but notice how the entire pack is looking at us now. With a mixture of awe, sadness, anger, curiosity, annoyance, joy, resentment and pride.
In our short stay in this pack we have definitely made a lasting impression. They will never again underestimate the strength and boldness of women like us again, that is for certain.
Furthermore, we know Ivy Brooks is pregnant with Alpha Rhett's pup. Mamma Tahlia came by and delivered the news. We had a tearful, heartfelt conversation with her. I left the conversation more confident than ever that I had made the right decision to end my matebond with Alpha Rhett. Also, Momma Tahlia is a good woman and I don't want to cause her any more pain if I can help it.
However, if I am being completely honest, I'm more frightened that if my sister rejects Alpha Rhett that she will end up as Alpha William's mate too.
I don't want that.
So I have decided that I will go on birth control.
I will agree to have s*x and explore a relationship with him, but I won't let Alpha William Black mark me yet.
That way, I still have an out if I need one. I have a better chance of surviving another rejection if we haven't mated and marked each other completely.
In addition, my Uncle Malcolm agreed to bring me a birth control shot from his pack doctor discreetly. It will prevent pregnancy for the next two years.
Nevertheless, I love my sister and I don't want her to be miserable with Alpha Rhett either, trying to protect my newly found mate bond from her sudden unwanted entrance.
Therefore, I am caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment.
But, I have to be honest and truthful as well as not play any games. That is the only way any of us will survive this sordid mess.
Even if the truth hurts that way, no one can accuse me of anything underhanded or for leading them on.
Besides, two years is plenty of time for everything to have calmed down and figured itself out. I refuse to be trapped in an insane situation that I don't want any part of because fate thinks I should.
Beta Royce led us into the pack hospital.
We took the elevator up.
We exited and walked down a hallway.
Gamma Fletcher hurriedly exited out of Ivy Brooks' private hospital room.
He looked guilty.
I wonder what that was all about.
Not my monkey, not my circus, I told myself, but it still gnawed at me.
Nonetheless, I shared a look with my sister, Finn.
She saw it too and registered it as odd as well.
We were raised to notice everything and to stay alert at all times. It could mean the difference between living and dying.
We continued walking then stopped at his door.
I took a deep breath and hugged my sister one more time before stepping into Alpha Rhett's private hospital room.
The room smelled like him.....sandalwood and frankincense.
And again, his scent didn't drive me wild. It was just a scent that didn't compare to Alpha William Black's scent that drove me wild.
I looked into his eyes and felt nothing.
I took a deep breath and let it out, more relieved than anything.
"Hello! I am Anora and this is Finn. You wanted to speak with us. Are you feeling up to it?" I voiced to Alpha Rhett, not sure if he had learned to tell us apart or not yet. Most people aren't able to pick up on the slight difference in our appearance and mannerisms easily.
Beta Royce didn't enter the room.
He waited outside.
"Yes! Thank you both for coming. Please take a seat. We need to talk." he said calmly. He was already sitting up in bed.
We sat one of us on each side of him.
"Thanks."
"Thank you."
"We have found ourselves in a very hard situation. It's not ideal at all." stated Alpha Rhett.
"So true." agreed Finn as I sat quietly nodding, trying to figure out what he wanted.
"I gave up looking for my fate mate years ago after searching countless packs and coming up empty. I will own my part in this mess. I started dating lots of she-wolves looking to settle for a chosen mate. I was dating looking to see who was good mate and Luna material. Somehow, before I knew it, I went from juggling five she-wolves to three she-wolves to only Ivy and no one liked her for me or for the pack. Now, I know why. I trusted and befriended the wrong she-wolf. That is on me for the rest of my life. I feel awful that her cruel and manipulative actions caused me not to sense you as well, Anora, and for the fact that I played a part in causing both of you pain and suffering." admitted Alpha Rhett before pausing to breathe.
"I don't blame you, and I am not mad at you. Sometimes, things happen that are out of our control. Sometimes trusting the wrong people can cost us." expressed Finn softly as I remained quiet.
"Thank you." he said.
"You were engaged to another woman when I showed up and destroyed the image you had for the rest of your life. So I allowed you space to process that. Now, you have discovered that the foundation of the life you were about to build upon with that other woman was built on lies, deceit and black magic. And on top of that, you can't just cut your losses and forget about her because a baby has been added to the equation." conveyed Finn.
"I am sorry. How did y'all find out?" asked Alpha Rhett, looking very embarrassed and shamed.
"Your mother." I replied.
"She didn't want us to find out the wrong way. So she broke it to us gently. We appreciated that so much." added Finn.
"Good." commented Alpha Rhett.
