The silence that surrounded them was thick, almost to a deafening level. The atmosphere had turned absolutely chilly and it bothered both of them in the back of their mind as it was not the time for the weather to change this bleak but as the saying goes that weather represented the mood of the person, Tiara and Xavier could found it relatable to with the type of heated moment they were sharing.
“When you did not return to Spain on the day you were supposed to come back home after finishing your college, I went berserk as the thoughts, bad thoughts that something bad might have happened to you crossed my mind and no matter how much I tried to stay positive, I just found myself worrying over you.” Xavier started as he reminisced that eventful day. He had personally gone to the airport to pick her up that day as he had been dying to see her for the last six months.
“I was trying to be strong in front of everyone as I ordered them to check if something happened to you while boarding as we lost contact with you and after that phone call where you said that you were boarding the plane.” Tiara had no intention to go back to Spain but she had called that day to her father from the living room of her small apartment in Britain as she wanted to talk to her old man for the last time.
She was moving in with Mason in his house on that day when she had made that call, she knew she wouldn't be able to talk to him again for two reasons, first, she had lied to Mason that she was an orphan and second, they would find her if she stayed in contact with him.
“I was growing worried with each passing second and when we found out you did not board and I thought the worst, we thought that someone must have hurt you.” He continued to narrate the story of his side that he never shared before as he refused to bring it up.
Tiara sat comfortably in his lap as she rested her head on his broad shoulder and listened silently to him, it seemed fair to her that after pouring his heart out to him, he had the right to do the same, to unburdened his heart and say whatever he had kept to himself until now.
His hands moved up and down on her back as he rubbed her back softly and gently with his big and warm hands that passed her some comfort. His little massage seemed to calm her racing thoughts and soothe the hurricane of emotion she just got high on.
“And it all started to crumble down when reality came in front of me. All the lies you have fed us and all the secrets you have kept us away from started to get unravel.” He heaved a heavy sigh as he remembered that time when the realisation of her betrayal swept through his every fabric.
“When we started to look for you, we found out that you were never in the college you mentioned to us, heck! you were not even in the same city.” Xavier cursed out loudly as his tongue turned bitter as those memories came rushing back to him.
“We realized that you had lied to us and started to look for you but you were clever and had never left a clue behind. Though however smart you are, we are the smartest and tracked you.” Xavier patted her back slowly in appreciation for her smart brain, “it took us the whole six months to haunt you but we did it anyway.” She hummed in response, they had found her in six months and everything had turned dirty that day.
“You don’t know how much I suffered in those six months, I went through hell because of you.” His voice turned slightly cold as he clenched his teeth but held her tightly, afraid that she might disappear.
“I kept asking myself what made you act so recklessly, that what made you disappear like that.” Xavier's voice started to break as remembering those moments were painful for him, “I kept asking myself why would you lie to all of us.”
Tiara was just listening silently as she heard his heart beating fast against her ear, the reeking smell of alcohol kept invading her nostrils.
“I was going crazy here. My heart was aching as it longed for your presence around it. I just wanted you close and searched for you desperately.” He was shaken to the core when none of his men had any traces of her, a fear that he might never get to see her again settled in his heart and he was afraid. Xavier was actually afraid.
Tiara snuggled closer to him and clutched the fabric of his shirt tightly as she felt extremely cold out here but had no energy left in her to say anything, her eyes had become tired shedding tears one after one and they needed to rest.
“I was devastated when I got to know what you did, when I got to know about that man –” Xavier stopped as he did not wish to talk about that moment of his life, it was the darkest one for him. It hurt when you suddenly got to know that the person you have loved all your life has chosen someone else over you. It definitely broke his heart into pieces and her betrayal just left him shattered.
He lost his sanity and killed twelve people that day, he hurt some others but thanks to god they were alive. He had felt a single tear drop leaking out of his eyes and that was when he realized that her betrayal had damaged him beyond repair.
She had promised him that she will return to him and that was the only reason he had trusted her and allowed her to go but she ran away, taking advantage of his leniency and his love for her and it was a strong blow to his ego, her actions hurt his pride and he was never the one to let the other person cause him pain and then let him get away with it, Xavier was exact opposite. He believed in returning the favour by ten folds with extra interest.
“I killed mason to make you stop yearning for him because I know what it does to you. it f***s you over Tiara, it makes you desperate, a desperate fool.” He explained with his personal experience, “I know if I had left him alive that day, you would have never agreed to marry me. You would have loved him till your last breath but killing him would have made you get over him.”
“You would have mourned over his death but in the end, you have to let him go and that’s what appeared more convenient to me.” He stated as a matter of fact in a plain tone that just showed how uninterested he really was.
“I did not want you to go through the same pain I did,” he brushed her soft hairs with his fingers, “I know how devastating it felt when the person you love is somewhere far away from you, living his life happily which he had certainly done after moving on from you.”
“Why do you think he would have moved on from me when I was still yearning for him?” she asked slowly, “you did not move on from me that means I am not easy to forget, right?” she asked like a little girl as she peeked up to him.
“I did not because I never could,” Xavier kissed her slowly on her forehead and realized that she had started to turn cold, “but he would have because he was a weak man and a weak man could never love you forever, he would have given up on you the next day he would have found himself in a hospital bed with you gone.”
“Why did you not give up on me?”
“Because I could not, I could not have given up on you even if I wanted to but trust me, Tiara, there was never a time when I thought about giving up on you and there will be no such time in the future as well.” he promised with the bottom of his heart. he just could not imagine a day where he would not want her anymore, not even after his death.
Xavier appeared as a hypocrite to Tiara, he was so full of himself that he even had the audacity to call Mason a weak person and his love for her temporary. She wanted to argue, to let him know that just because her dead husband was a sweet and caring guy who had never picked up a gun before was the strongest human she had ever seen.
Mason used to laugh when he was happy, even used to cry when sad. He loved her and let her know about his feelings as soon as he could unlike Xavier who used to stalk her and have her pictures taken. Mason was an honest guy who was not afraid to express himself in any way and certainly was the best guy she could have fallen for.
Xavier was a corrupted man, his ancestors were corrupt; his whole blood line was corrupted that even after having so much money from their legal business they still chose to stick with the illegal ones. They were hungry for power when they had always been a respectful noble family but yet their thirst to grow in the underworld never left them. They were not honest and it ran in their bloodline. They pretended to be a good family while masking away their horrendous deed from the eyes of people.
To Tiara, Xavier was wrong. Mason was a strong man who lived with no mask on but he, on the other hand, was a vicious snake, living a dubious life. He was betraying his country and government and such men could not earn any respect in her eyes, love was the farthest emotion.
Xavier was drunk and her intoxicating smell was not helping him much. The way her body was pressed closely against his did something to his body and he wanted to feel more of her. He needed to feel more of her to assure himself that Tiara was his and nothing was wrong between them.
“You are cold, let me take you upstairs.” He said in a voice that was laced with concern as he felt her body shivering against him and he noticed that the weather had changed drastically.
Tiara hummed in response as her body started to feel numb and eyelids heavy. She was exhausted and needed to rest. She wanted to sleep comfortably in that soft bed of their room.
Xavier stood up carefully as he held her securely in his arms, her legs wrapped around his waist and arms encircled around his neck. He started to move slowly as he carried her koala-like figure inside the warm mansion.
Xavier carried his wife upstairs, to their shared bedroom. He catched the glimpse of some maids who had their eyes popped out in shock and embarrassment when they looked at the s****l position the married couple was in. Although it was their own house, it still seemed illicit to those maids.
Xavier had given a glare when he felt their eyes on Tiara and him and they instantly ducked their head low with a flushed face.
He gently placed her on the bed and put aside her hairs that were clinging on to her beautiful face. He caressed her forehead lightly and noticed that her body temperature had dropped down a bit and it made him frown.
Xavier turned around intending to leave for the bathroom but stopped in his tracks when she held his hand, he turned around again to look at her and saw her eyelids half open, face flushed and messy hair with slightly parted lips, “god! She is a sight to devour.” Xavier gasped in pure amazement.
“Where are you going?” she asked in a hoarse voice as all the yelling from earlier had tired her throat.
“I am going to take a shower.” He answered after a brief moment as he was too lost to stare at her beautiful features.
She tugged at his hand, trying to pull him towards her but had no strength to do that, “no, don’t go.” She said with a little scowl on her face as she looked into his eyes that had turned slightly red due to the amount of alcohol in his system. “I don't wish to be alone, sleep with me.” She whispered, her voice sounded desperate and needy and Xavier swore to himself as he actually wanted to sleep with her, he wanted to have her at the moment.
“I will come and join you after shower, baby.”
“No!” his wife whined like a toddler which he found quite adorable and tugged at his hand again, “I want some cuddles.” Xavier was shocked to hear that as it was the first time she had asked for cuddles, she had for sure asked him to make love to her but never something that was as romantic as cuddling.
Xavier would not pass on that offer, he would be crazy if he did that and nodded at her. He moved closer to her laying figure and brought her hand up that was holding his and placed a soft and lingering kiss on it.
Xavier sat on the bed and removed his shoes and unbuttoned his shirt before pulling it off his body, throwing it away on the floor he laid down. He pulled her close to him and felt her snuggling up to him against his naked chest. He pulled the covers over them and hugged her tightly, turning off the side lamp, he slept peacefully with her in his arms.
