Tiara sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the far distance in nowhere with a saddened expression on her face. Her shiny green eyes that had now turned dull blinked slowly, the layer of moisture made her eyes look glossy.
Her wounds were treated and dressed up properly, hidden under all those layers of bandages but the pain and discomfort she was in, it could clearly be seen on her face that had turned pale and eyes that had swollen up due to excessive crying.
She was wearing a long white shirt, made up of satin and was loose enough to not to graze against her wound and cause any sort of pain.
Her hair was cleaned as well unlike the last time she had seen them covered in her own blood. The maid had done her work pretty good but all of it seemed useless to Tiara because she knew she would be all blue and grey once again when these wounds would be healed. She reckoned her life to be like this filled with torture with a little relief and then the torture, worse than before till the day Xavier would finally decide to finish her however, Tiara didn't see that happening anytime soon. She knew she had betrayed the mafia leader and the punishment for that would not be for short period.
The opening of the door slowly caught her attention and she saw the reason behind her doom, Xavier standing at the entrance. Dressed in a black shirt with a few buttons undone that showed his toned chest and black slacks. his sleeves were rolled up to his elbow and both of his hands were inside his pocket.
"How are you feeling now?" Xavier asked with a cold face hiding the concern and care he had for her behind his emotionless voice.
Tiara scowled at his questions because according to her he had no right to ask her that. She didn't even try to hide the anger she had for him that started to surface in her green orbs, "Why? So you could resume my punishment?" She spat venomously at him and looked away.
Her words made Xavier clench his fist tightly, "I was the one who saved you yesterday from getting whipped." Xavier pointed out, he went against his father to save her like he had done many times for her in the past but she was too ignorant to notice his efforts and Xavier was fine with her ignorance up until now but he had his limits.
Tiara looked back at him, staring in his deadly grey eyes with her green one with mockery being the prominent emotion, "You didn't save me because you wanted to, Xavier Black!" She started, her tone as cold as ice, "You saved me because you wanted to punish me yourself."
Xavier was aghast hearing what kind of a person she really thought of him as. He knew he was a merciless mafia leader when it came to underworld but he had never for once showed that side to her. He liked to control things his way but she was an exception, he had always respected her decision and supported her and it really hurt him to know that she had never acknowledged his support and his efforts because she was the only person he deeply cared about except for his father but she never able to understand his affection.
"What do you really want from me, Xavier?" She asked the question that had been bugging her since the moment she got her consciousness back. "I am clearly not worthy enough to marry you now so what do you have in mind?" She questioned but then suddenly her eyes widened as a sudden realization hit her, she knew what happened to the female traitor here.
"A-Are you going to make me your p-personal w-w***e?" Her voice stuttered and soul seemed to shudder at that thought "or you would s-sell me off?" Her eyes watered at the possibility. Xavier was known for his merciless torture in underworld and she reckoned that he wouldn't show her any mercy because what she had done had not only hurt his manly ego but had also jeopardize his reputation in entire mafia world.
Xavier was baffled, he knew she was afraid but couldn't understand where this fear of him had gone when she betrayed him. He realized that his reputation had built his image in her mind where she clearly chose to neglect his efforts and behaviour towards her.
Xavier had never felt more disappointed in his life, all these years he was trying to get her to fall for him but all of that was in vain. the gentleman in him, the one who only came to surface when she was around felt defeated.
Tiara started crying when she realized what her future would hold for her, a life full of humiliation that Xavier would want her to feel so that she could regret betraying him but despite all that she didn't, she didn't regret betraying Xavier because it led her to Mason and that man had made her feel so much loved in a short amount of time that she had not even felt in her whole life combine before meeting him. He had her captured in the arms of his love and yet she never felt suffocated and caged with him.
She loved it when she got to make spontaneous decisions with Mason and it filled every cell of her body with excitement and joy. It made her look forward to tomorrow where she would again get the freedom to make a spontaneous decision, to decide for her own and it made her feel lively. She had started to anticipate life after meeting Mason and it gave her the feeling of being in control of her life unlike here in Spain where everything was decided for her and she was expected to follow the decisions made for her.
A sudden wave of anger gripped her inside when she realized that she, no longer would have that feeling of being free and being in control of her life. She would no longer anticipate the future nor she wanted to think about what tomorrow would bring. She would never feel the love that enables you to feel lively because her Mason was gone and she would never be able to feel loved by him anymore and all of it was because of the family she was born in and the people she grew up with and Xavier was the one she blamed the most because it was him who killed her husband.
"My life is ruined because of you, Xavier!" She yelled suddenly at him who was lost in grief that the disappointment and defeat had caused him but her outburst managed to bring him out of his thoughts, "You killed Mason!"
Tiara stood up and ran to him and started to hit him on the chest, "You killed my husband, the man I loved!" She broke down in sobs and Xavier quickly grabbed her both hands to prevent himself from her weak hits.
"Enough, Tiara!" Xavier yelled at her that made her go still in fear, something inside of him ticked when she said that she loved Mason. The love he wanted to have for himself, she had already given it to someone and it was heart wrenching, "He deserved to die for messing with me!" He wanted to say more but had no courage because he knew Tiara didn't even like him as a person, for her he was just a cold-hearted mafia.
"No, he didn't!" Tiara expressed her disagreement, "He didn't mess with you, Xavier," Her voice was getting weak, overwhelmed by the pain, "He just loved me without knowing anything about me." Her voice became soft as she reminisced about her time with him; about how selflessly that man loved her.
She slowly raised her eyes and looked up at him, who was looking down at her already with an enraged expression "loving someone is not wrong, Xavier." She said to him, softly. her green eyes shone with love and longing she had for that dead man, and Xavier felt like someone had stabbed his heart.
"And betraying someone is?" He asked softly in his husky voice, her green orbs kept him captive, "Tell me, Tiara, is breaking your promise not wrong?" His heartbeat rose as he asked that question.
Tiara instantly looked down, her heart starting beating fast in nervousness.
"Answer me, Tiara!" He urged, desperately wanted to hear what she had to say because he wanted to know whether she felt even an ounce of guilt for doing what she did to him, for breaking her promise to return back to him so that the constant pricking he felt in his heart could be calmed down a bit.
Tiara closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again and raised her head high in confidence, "Everything is right in love and war, Xavier." She announced and stared into his eyes, "I did everything to be with the person I love hence, I do not regret breaking the promise I have given you." There was no trace of guilt in her voice but on the contrary she appeared rather proud to him.
"I would betray you again to be with Mason if given a chance to go back in time and make the decision again." She was determined and confident and he had never seen her like this, he vividly remembered that she used to be so meek and frail but now she had indeed turned into a strong woman from a naive girl.
There was a part of him that kept mocking Xavier that he did wrong to Mason. His subconscious kept blaming him that it was because of him that she got whipped and humiliated and he felt guilty for all of it but that guilt faded in thin air after listening to her. She was right, everything is fair in love and war. If she thought that she did right by betraying him then his actions were also justified.
"Mason's death is your punishment, Tiara, but unlike you I would like to amend my mistake if given a chance." He muttered looking at her with hardened eyes, he leaned down a bit and pulled her closer by tugging at her arm, "I would like to torture Mason in a way that even his soul would no longer wants to live inside his body, I would torture him for days in front of you before killing him." He whispered darkly in her ear and menace was swirling in his voice that his words made her to shudder and she for a moment felt grateful that her Mason was dead because if not then Xavier had slowly tortured him like he had claimed.
He lightly pecked her forehead to mock her and Tiara tried to push him away and he let her go because he knew moving this much would cause her wounds to itch and it would lead to pain.
"You disgust me, Xavier Black!" She snarled in a venom dripping tone at him, her eyes seemed to blaze in fire. "You are a ruthless man who is in delusion that he is a king! You and your people make me sick!" She let out her frustration on him by telling him how she really feels about him and his people after coming back, "You all are nothing but monsters who find it pleasurable to destroy the lives of people!"
"Aren't you a part of us, Tiara?" Xavier was calmed from outside but only he knew how much he was trying to keep himself in control because it was Tiara before him and he didn't want to hurt or scare her. "Isn't your daddy dearest the same, a right hand of my father? Weren't our mother best friends?" Xavier smirked seeing her at a loss of words, the defeated expression she had on her face because she didn't have anything to oppose him made smiled in victory, "You were born here, Tiara, with all these people who suddenly started to make you sick. This is your home, a place you are supposed to be and a place you really belong to." Xavier's lips twitched slightly in a smirk because he knew every single thing he had said couldn't be denied by Tiara as all of it was as true as her own existence.
The smirk he had on his face seemed to mock Tiara and she hated it as much as she had started to hate Xavier.
"I may have been born here but I am not one of you!" That was all Tiara had to say because a home was a place where you feel like you are loved and belonged and Tiara had never felt any of that there. She had thought she was loved there until she realized what being loved really was. A feeling of being loved made you feel free not responsible to stand up to everyone's expectations.
"You wish, Tiara," Xavier said casually, because he knew she knew she was just running away from reality and trying to live in delusion and escaping reality had never benefited anyone, "You wish!" he let out a long and tired sigh and decided to leave.
He gave her a last look with longing, pain, love and anger at the same time and he didn't know which one was the most intense one at the moment. He sighed internally and stormed out of her room, locking her in on the way out.
