Chapter 51: Risk

Ezra’s pov Wheels, I could see the wheels in her head turning. I sat there, holding a strand of her hair in my hand and just watched. What’s going on in that beautiful mind? She had this look of deep concentration, and what followed was a smile. She found a solution to the problem she had created for herself. We now know why Alpha Gomez and his entire pack took the actions they did. It was to protect his brat, and I know that there is more to it. An Alpha doesn’t just take such drastic decisions for no reason. There is some underlying issue that cemented all his actions. And as for me, as long as I know that they are not a threat to Diana, then I am good. They can hide their precious silver wolf for eternity and, it wouldn’t concern me. However, I wouldn’t say the same for the woman sitting next to me. She is absolutely going to involve herself in this entire situation. She has always been like this, even when we were kids. Going on quests and making decisions that always land her in trouble. Then I usually have to step in and hold her out of her little situation. This is the same girl who dared me that she could walk into a Lycan Territory. I did tell her how stupid it was but all she heard was that I was saying she couldn’t do it. Long story short, we almost had another war on her hands. But now, she has grown into a mature woman who thinks her decisions through. But I know it, that little girl who liked taking risks is somewhere deep down. But who am I to complain? I am the biggest risk she ever took. Even at a young age, I was already infamous. Some called me the cursed prince; they feared my eyes and avoided me. Because I was something that had never been seen before, I was also called a monster. Kids my age ran in all kinds of directions when they saw me coming. But she found me in that room and decided to nurse me back to health. “Okay, we are going to request a meeting with Alpha Gomez,” she said suddenly, standing up. “We are?” I asked as I let go of the strand of hair I was holding. “Yes, get ready and remember your promise to me. You will be a saint.” I had to roll my eyes as she said all that, pointing at me. I did make a promise that I would be a saint, but some promises are meant to be broken. That Derek rubs me the wrong way. He was always running after Diana and had no concept of personal space. Hugging her and holding her hand, calling her nicknames, telling her jokes and, trying to be funny. Not only that, but he would invite himself to their family events just to be around her. Derek is really annoying; he is my number one enemy, and the worst part is, I can’t kill him. Well, not yet anyway, but I think that I could endure the consequences if he died. Or I could make it look like a mistake. “Stop thinking about murder.” Diana snapped me out of my thoughts. “I wasn’t thinking about murder,” I retorted, and she looked at me. A look that told me that she didn’t believe a word I just said. I got up from the couch and watched as she led the way to Alpha Gomez’s office. I hate that she knows her way around this place. Whenever I heard that she came here with her parents, it would piss me off. Because I knew that Derek used every single moment of those visits to cling to her. By instinct, I reached out my hand and held Diana’s hand firmly. If she was surprised, she didn’t say it or show it. The people that Diana requested were in the room, sitting down and waiting for us. It was Alpha Gomez, Derek, and that silver wolf girl. By then, Diana had shrugged off my hand, and I had kept them by my side. We sat down, and I watched as the three people looked at us unexpectedly. “You do know that keeping such a secret from the Alpha King is a grave sin?” I asked them. I watched as their faces turned pale before they tried covering it up. Diana looked at me, as if thankful that I spoke up first. I could tell that she had a hard time finding an opening to say what she wanted. Well, then, I will be the bad cop in the situation so she can swoop in. “What secret are you talking about?” Derek asked. His usual Playboy demeanour was completely gone and replaced by one of an Alpha and a brother. Ready to face even the Alpha King if it means he protects those he cares about. I looked at Diana, and I understand how he feels. I only came here because I have only one goal, and that is protecting Diana. I have no interest in some brat because she has a special wolf. There is only one person in this world who is special to me, and that is Diana. “She is a silver wolf, isn’t she?” I asked,, pointing at the brat. Their faces turned ashen and I just shrugged as I looked at them. “Calm down, Ezra doesn’t have any bad intentions. And we understand why you hid it,” Diana explained. T hat is her opening, and she took it. So I let myself sit back and relax to see what she can do. “We? Are you a we with the man who killed your parents? What do you think you are doing, Diana? How can you trust him? He is a monster,” Alpha Gomez said. His voice was calm as if he were talking about the weather. And as for me, it also felt like he was talking about the weather when he called me a monster. I have been called that all my life, and after some time, it loses the sting. “I respect you very much, Alpha Gomez. Our families have been close for a long time. But call Ezra a monster one more time, and I will make sure you regret it.” This time, I was actually shocked. I looked at Diana, someone who can sit and tolerate insults. Just like me, she has been called many names for having a ‘human’ mother. And she would swallow those insults and would never say anything back or show anger. B ut right now, it was written all over her face, and yet it warmed me up. However, I can’t let her jeopardize things with them when she came all this way. “I promise you. I have no interest in your daughter, and why would I? I am getting married to my mate very soon,” I said, looking at Diana. They didn’t hide how shocked they were by this announcement. Diana didn’t react; she didn’t seem angry that I revealed it. Even she could tell that it was the perfect way to salvage the situation. “As we know, if I wanted strong kids like my father. Having them with my fated mate is the best chance. Plus, your daughter isn’t my type.” I didn’t even look at the girl they were talking about. Derek’s eyes were on Diana and I didn’t like it one bit. , Should I gouge out his eyes? “I thought our families were close, but it seems like we are not as close as I thought,” Diana said with a sigh. “I know there is a reason, another reason that pushed you to make the decisions you made.” She paused as if trying to find the right words to say. “How about this? We trade? One secret for another, and I can add a cherry on top. We will also keep your daughter’s secret and help you keep it better. If the two of us could find it out in less than a minute, what about everyone else?” she asked. I don’t like where this is going. What risky move is she going to pull?
