24 This morning seemed like another typical day. I ate a piece of bread, shaved, dressed, and put my gym clothes into my backpack. On the doorstep I ran into the woman who lives in the middle flat Have you heard anything yet? she asked. No. Have you? I replied. Not a word, Joni said. The two of us stood silently for a moment wondering what the future held for us. Both hoping the building wasn’t sold. Afraid of what might happen if it was. If it wasn’t so expensive, we could buy it ourselves, she said. But interest rates being what they are these days, there’s no way Wally and I could meet the monthly payments. It would be fantastic if we could manage to hold onto it somehow. But I don’t think it’s possible. It’s a shame, isn’t it? she said shaking her head sadly. It’s getting harde
