ARIEL
"Oh my gosh that's huge, I'm so proud of you, Ariel!" Stacy yelled in excitement as she read the letter. This was her second time reading out the letter that was sent to me by Apex Wolf Academy.
"You are?" I asked her and she nodded.
"Of course I am…” she answered.
"But you hate that school."
"I only hated it because I know I don't have the brains or money to get in. This is a great opportunity for you and your family right there in this letter. You know what it holds right, being a student of AWA?" She asked and I nodded.
"Okay, what about us then? What about our pact?" I asked her. I was confused about everything.
"Honey! We were nine!" Come here," Stacy said and pulled me in for a hug. "We've grown…opportunities will come and we'll have to take them and not limit ourselves like ignorant little pups." She chuckled
"I'll always be your best friend," I told her, a tear or two fell from my eyes.
"I'll always be your sister." She answered while soothing my back.
Those words really made me feel at ease. I had thought for a second that my best friend would somehow be mad at me. I couldn't lie to Stacy that I was sick and I wouldn't be able to attend school for years. The truth had set me free.
Stacy released me from the hug whilst trying to hold back her tears.
"Now go show those spoiled brats who rule that school," Stacy said, and I scoffed.
"Very funny."
"I'm being serious. You won't allow any of those nitwits to intimidate you,” she said.
"I hear you, Mother. Now let's go do something fun!"
Although I never saw myself that way, I was a picture-perfect wolf with good grades, flawless attendance, and a charming smile. I also had the best friend in the world.

The cold breeze woke me up, along with the tension I was feeling. My bed suddenly felt very uncomfortable as I sat up. My uniform was already neatly ironed by my father and neatly placed in my wardrobe. The uniform was colored black with a burgundy tie paired with knee-lengthened white socks.
"This stuff is truly made of gold. You can't let it get even the tiniest bit of stain." My dad smiled whilst ironing it earlier that day.
"Sis you don't mind me wearing it just to show off to my friends, pleeease." My younger brother pleaded, pouting his lips like a puppy.
"No, no. That's not going to happen. This right here is a uniform of treasure." Dad scolded him.
My parents were so proud of me and I knew it. I sat on the bed, contemplating changing the unnatural course of my life by simply running away.
"2:31," I murmured as I checked my phone.
My wolf was even tenser; school was in less than six hours.
"We should get some rest. The first day is always pretty hectic," Brie said. That was the name I recently gave my wolf.
"You're right… I should drink some water and get some sleep." I headed to the kitchen whilst trying to be as silent as possible. My family's house wasn't very big; any small sound could wake up the entire household.
I took one gulp, then another, and then went back to sleep.
"Good morning my Princess. Today's your first day. I'm sure you don't wanna be late." I heard a voice and then the sound of the curtains opening.
That was, of course, my mother. She always liked to wake me up as early as 5:00 am but I had forgotten to keep that in mind.
"But I just went to bed. Mum, you don't have to wake me up at the same time as you go to work at Casters." I grumbled.
"You're welcome. Now, up! I made you breakfast already." She said with a smile on her face.
"Yay, I forgot I have the most loving mum," I said sarcastically.
"Oh, you know I really am. Besides, it's your first day at your dream school! You should have woken up way earlier than I did.” mum said.
"You have no idea," Brie said.
My life was all roses and letters before I was given that death sentence. That was what that school was to me.
Apex Wolves Academy was home to the higher wolves, the higher breeds, and the likes of the infamous Lycans, Alphas, and Betas. It was an open secret that it was a death zone for any wolf that wasn't of royal blood. The forbidden territory for the wolves below the food chain! It was more of an invite to her death. Even worse, it was located in the heart of the woods, close to the forbidden lake.
I took a cold bath and dressed up before eating my smiley-faced omelet with a note that read "Good luck!"
I bade my family farewell while my father drove me to school in his office truck.
We got there and the school was so big that some wolves got dropped in the school in helicopters.
I looked down at their shoes and figured I was the only one who wore sneakers. Others wore designed black leather shoes in unison.
"Sigh. This is it for us." Brie whimpered.
"I know you're not too happy about…everything, but I want you to always remember where you're from." My father said and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Here's your map. Don't get lost."
"Thanks, Dad." I smiled.
The map looked very precise until I tried to follow it. I began to ask for directions but none of them paid any attention to me. They all seemed to walk in cliques; very rude cliques. It was very frustrating and so I gave up and sat on the bench.
"Do you need help with that?" I heard someone ask.
"What's the point? You're just going to lead me in the wrong direction on purpose anyway," I said, without looking at the person.
"There are very few nice people here, I know. But we do exist." The voice said and I turned to this person; my eyes were droopy and tired already.
"Hi, I'm Dan." He said, stretching forth his hand. He wore round-shaped glasses that reminded me a lot of Harry Potter. Even better, he had the book in his hand.
"Ariel," I said, and I shook his hand.
"I just resumed this week too. I had to pay someone to take me on a tour, and it wasn't cheap. The worst part is, I didn't even get the full tour because this is a very big school." Dan said, striking deep into the conversation.
"Guess you'd have to figure out the rest yourself."
"Most definitely. Since you're new, I'm guessing we might be taking some classes together."
"Why aren't you in class?" I asked him, a bit curious.
"A free period. Our next class is by 11:00 am," he answered.
"Fascinating. I can't believe I was forced to wake up by five for this." I murmured.
Dan laughed hard at my sarcasm. My attitude towards everything was fascinating and funny. We talked and shared our love for books. Soon the bell rang and he led me to class. The desks were not arranged like the average classroom, they were placed in the shape of a semicircle just so those at the back of the class would have a balanced view. I proceeded to have a seat and wait for the teacher.
