Ariel's POV ~ It was finally lunchtime. I was starving. I headed to the cafeteria and I was astonished. The lights were so beautiful and golden that it suddenly felt like Christmas. "Is this really a school?" I couldn't even tell which was better, the beautiful hotel-looking interior, or the five-star cooking. They served all types of food. They had rice balls, chicken, and sushi rolls. I could feel Brie getting super pumped. I stopped myself from trying to buy myself some of those because I knew they would be very expensive. Good thing my mum packed my lunch. Dan seemed to have had something to do, so it was just me. I sat alone and pulled out my lunch. I was having leftover Kerbar, my signature dish. It was a delicious mixture of fish and rice; my grandmother's recipe. "Well, look what we have here. You brought your own lunch!" It was Dan, settling down with his food tray. It was a relief he came. At least it'll cause fewer people to stare. What was wrong with me packing my own lunch after all? "Hi, Dan." "You do know that you're like the first person I've ever seen bring her own lunch at this Academy. It's like you're saying the food here doesn't match your standard… I choked immediately when he made that statement. If only he knew. "Hey, Dan!…hey you…" A doll-faced wolf appeared and sat down at our table."Sorry, Dan, I couldn't get you the chicken nuggets." "Ow bummer." He winced."Pardon my manners, Ariel, this is my friend Lynette Maccain, she is an Omega from the Blue tribe. Maccain, this is Ariel, she just resumed with us." "Can you not refer to me as Maccain? She scoffed. " Pleasure to meet you, Ariel, I must say, you are very pretty and I do admire your…authenticity." I knew right away she was referring to my food. I just smiled and muffled. "Thank you." "I can't believe I am schooling with royalties," Lynette said. "Wait, did you both come through a scholarship?" I just had to ask. "No." They chorused. "I got admitted," Dan said whilst putting a chunk of pudding into his mouth. "What about you, Ariel?" Lynette asked. "Yes!" I blurted. The truth is, if I had thought about it, I would definitely lie about it. "Wow, that's awesome…and lucky. Where are you from?"Lynette inquired. " Briggerton… it's not too far off and not a problem for my mum who after all, is a cleaner. My dad owns a small cafe, but it's pretty big for him and my brother…. "Shut up Ariel. Just stop talking!" Brie voiced inside of me. "I'm sorry that just… " Quiet guys! The Queen bee is coming!" Dan interrupted. I saw a slender blonde with two others walking behind her. Everyone including us stopped whatever it was they were doing. "Who is that?" "That's Candy, the daughter of the Alpha of the Bloom Pack. She is the closest thing to a Queen-bee that Apex Academy has." he said. I couldn't agree less. Candy was gorgeous with strawberry-blonde hair, green eyes, rosy skin, and an hourglass figure. "Don't be fooled by her beauty. She's also a walking symbol of seduction. She's evil, manipulative, and a big bully, obsessed with makeup and choking perfumes along with her two minions, Ramona and Thalia. The betas. They would do anything she asks them to. Candy doesn't care what she has to do to get what she wants. She doesn't care who gets hurt in the process. She loves attention and she's obsessed with the Alphas, Kaden especially. She's a power-hungry young lady, driven by the need to dominate," Lynette said. "And how do you know all of this?" "Easy, I attend this school." She scoffed. "Don't mind what she said, Ariel. Candy isn't really all that bad." "Trust me, he's just saying that because he has a crush on her…" she laughed. I watched Candy stand up from where she sat with her cup of pudding in her hand. She walked up to an Omega wolf and splashed it in his eyes. " Maybe that will stop you from staring at me, freak!" She walked out and her betas followed her, leaving their full trays and no one said anything, they just had their phones up and filming. "Hmm, Dan, that's a potential you right there. You should stop staring at her all the time." "What are you talking about? It would be an honor to be splashed by Candy; maybe she'll finally notice that I exist." "You have a problem, Dan." She laughed. I laughed pretty hard too, it was kind of funny. "You both can laugh all you want. I am headed to the library." *************** I got home that day very exhausted. My mother wasn't back yet from the Castor's home; she worked there as a cleaner. Although I have never been there before, I could tell they were rich; only the rich would give people their money to clean up their houses for them. My father wasn't back home either; he owned a small Cafe he named after himself; Elias Dane. It was a few blocks away from our house. My parents were a beautiful couple. Their understanding of each other was the one I admired the most. I truly wanted my future marriage to be just there. They didn't have much but they loved each other dearly. I just hoped they wouldn't make me pick Juandre. That was my very naughty brother, the same one who suggested I go to my royal school and get married to any of them. He was so embarrassed. I took off my uniform and had a nice cold bath. I put on some liquid face mask and settled in the tub. I was relaxing my head when I heard a bang. "But I'm at home alone," I thought. " Who's that?" My voice was shaky. I quickly cleaned up my face and grabbed my towel, clutching it very tightly to my chest. The footsteps were getting closer and my heart was beating so fast, I thought it would pump right out of my chest. The footsteps got to my door and it was unlocked. I picked up my bat and moved slowly to the door. The door was opened and thank goodness I didn't attack immediately. "Hey, hey calm down…it's just me." "Stacy what the f***k!" I screamed."You scared the sh*t out of me. I thought that was a burglar." I walked past her and shut the door. She began laughing at me but stopped immediately when she saw my death stare. "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to…also, I kinda broke your mum's vase." "You broke?... You know what, I don't care, you'll face her when she gets back. Good thing she loves you." "But that was her favorite vase…" "As I said, you'll face her when she gets back." I giggled. "You used to be such a sweet little munchkin. Look at what a day at that Academy has done to you." "Very funny, Stacy." I smiled."I do have a ton of things to tell you." I squealed and she squealed too. " You know how we used to say that the school is overrated?" "Yeah?" "It's not! Stacy, that school is built like a museum, a hotel, a ballroom! The food there was super expensive… "What about the students? Are the boys cuuute?" She squealed whilst squeezing my hand in hers. "They are…way better than our school. Your school. It's just…you know how if you dared bully any wolf at Camders, you get expelled?" "Yeah?..." " At the Academy, it's different, even allowed. Other students would just do nothing but film the moment. I was surprised when an Alpha wolf named Candy humiliated an Omega because he stared at her. It's sad really. But on the bright side, I made two friends today. They were the only ones who talked to me. The others were just staring at me like I was a project." I moved to my bed and lay on my back staring at the ceiling as I spoke. Stacy was such a good listener. I told her everything that happened in detail, I even told her that they weren't any scholarship students, it was just me. "You know they didn't need to know that, right? I don't want them segregating you." "What's the worst thing that could happen? Besides, they are my friends." "They are acquaintances, not friends. You only just met them today." For a second there I thought she was just jealous. It was later I realized she was right. ~ The very next day was worse. Now students no longer stared at her like a project, and she was starting to feel like a plague. She dropped her head to avoid making eye contact with any of them. Her books were tightly clutched on her chest and she increased her speed. "Hey! Watch it!" She had just mistakenly bumped into a female. Candy. "Oh, brother." Brie winced. This is it. She was probably going to die on her second day of school. "Isn't this the bloody Omega who got lucky?" She scoffed. Her eyes were darkened, she was enraged. "How did she know about us?" Her wolf inquired. "Pick up my books." Her minions just kept smacking their gums behind her. "I'm not going to say it twice!" she said in her Alpha voice. That tone attracted students. They began to gather up to watch the scene. Of course, some of them had their phones up. "I'm sorry," Ariel said and went on her knees to pick them up. She handed them over to her but Candy wasn't done yet. "You wear glasses but you still can't see. Maybe it's a desperate cry for help out of poverty that you need." "Yeah, that'll help you see." Said Ramona and Thelia in unison. They all began to laugh at her. It was humiliating. They somehow got to know about her background, and for the first time ever, that knowledge cut deep. "It could be the dust your mother brings home from all the cleaning. Aw, you poor thing." She bent over and placed her hand on Ariel's shoulders like she wanted to apologize. "Bump into me again, and you'll be dead." And with that, she left. Ariel stood there, petrified. The bell rang and everyone dispersed.
