Not So Shy Anymore

1654 Words
Serena was up before the sun feeling strangely energetic. Her mother was up and about already, grabbing her keys and driving off to find some liquor though none of the stores would be open yet. Serena quickly turned off her phone hearing the car pull off. She wasn't saving her mother, not this time. Instead she went into the kitchen and pulled out some of the food her aunt had brought over for her. Making herself a egg scramble with sausage, bacon, potatoes and eggs with some tortillas and salsa she stuffed it down almost as soon as it got on the plate. She wasn't sure why but she was overly hungry all of a sudden. Before her accident she might have eaten once, or twice if she was lucky, a day. She never felt more hungry then that, but it was like she couldn't get enough. She might have even made more if her phone didn't go off indicating it was time to get ready for school.  She grabbed a quick shower of course, avoiding her hair this time since she had just watched it the day before. Once she was out she wrapped up her leg, which looked like it was nearly healed. Still, she would listen to Laura's orders for the rest of the week. Keep it clean and wrapped. It wasn't swollen anymore so she wasn't worried about wearing the boots which she slid into perfectly when she finally dried off and got dressed in her outfit. Putting one side of her curly red hair in three french braids down taught against her head, she managed to sneak some of her mother's make up she wouldn't miss. Even if she did, Serena didn't care. She couldn't put a finger on why, but she didn't wanna deal with it anymore. She had only done make up in her spare time when she felt like it, but never to school. Dabbing on some foundation, black eye shadow and liner with some dark red lips to top it off, she grabbed her shoulder bag which she hadn't used since her father's death stuffing her school items inside it. Her mother wasn't home yet, and even though she grabbed her phone she didn't turn it on, not yet. Her alarm went off telling her she had fifteen minutes to the first bell and she could hear her aunt was patiently waiting for her outside.  "Your mother gone again?"  Hanna asked once Serena got into the car. She had slipped on a black sweater so her aunt wouldn't get onto her about the clothes. Serena buckled up nodding her head.  "Like always." Looking up while she replied her aunt who had to do a double take at her.  "Serena! I have never seen you wear make up before!" She grabbed Serena's face while she spoke and looked her face over. "Um...yeah I wanted to try something different today." Serena mumbled because of her face being squished. Serena pushed her hands away and sat up slowly. "Do you not like it?" "It's differently different. I am just glad you are finding happiness with what happened to you. I don't think you should be going back to school so soon..." Her aunt keep rambling on making Serena sigh softly in irritation. "I have already been out for almost two weeks aunt Hanna. I can't take off anymore time. I am already so far behind. Yes I have all of my work down, but I need to get back to school. I can't just keep avoiding it. Yes something tragic happened to me, but it's down and over with." Serena quickly cut her off and it should have made her feel bad, but it didn't. "Oh, okay. If you say so hunny." Hanna replied to her, and that was it. The whole five minute ride to the school was very quiet. Her aunt didn't really wanna talk after Serena snapped at her and now that she had a moment to think about it, Serena felt bad. All Hanna had ever tried to do was make her happy without being able to actually take her away. She always threatened it, but even Serena knew Hanna couldn't take her on with her two young boys. Her and her uncle John didn't have the room in house. Hanna pulled up to the school and parked the car, Serena carefully unbuckled herself reaching for the door and paused.  "Thank you aunt Hanna for everything you do for me." Serena said, jumping over to hug her real quick. Hanna was shocked, but Serena could feel the smile on her face before she hugged her back. "You are welcome Serena. Have a good day. I will pick you up later." She replied before letting Serena go. She waited for the car to vanish before turning to the school doors. Everyone was starting to rush inside, but Serena was waiting to make everyone see her. She just wanted to go to the music room and play some music for the first few hours. She had been missing the recording studio oh so much. Slipping around the back of the school she slipped into the back door leading to the music room. Of course Mr.Kane was playing his piano.  "You're working hard as always I see." She smiled walking over to her teacher and hugging him from behind. He jumped at first, but the moment he realized who it was he stood up and hugged her.  "Serena! My best student you have returned!" He seemed happy that she was here holding her tightly for a good moment. "Do they know you have returned?" "Not exactly. I just wanted to spend some time recording my new music." Serena replied once they parted. He smiled at her and nodded quickly.  "I wouldn't let anyone else touch it until you got back. Take all the time you need Serena. We won't be bothering you!" He exclaimed before the bell rang. Serena smiled and hugged him once more time before he took off to take care of his first class.  "Finally some alone time..." Serena said walking over to the small recording booth and setting everything up. He really hadn't let anyone touch anything, and her heart filled with joy. The song Dom had tried to ruin that night the first draft was still there. It wasn't totally ruined. She closed the door, sat down and got to work perfecting it once again.  The lunch bell was what brought her out of the world she was in. It was time to show them what Dominic's mistake had created. It was his fault she had ended up in the hospital to begin with, not to mention leaving her to the wolves, literally. Gathering her stuff she walked to her locker and stuffed everything inside before walking to the lunch room. She had never been in there before, but not only was she starving no one would be expecting her to walk in. A good ten minutes of chaos went by, the doors closing so everyone could enjoy their meal in peace, and Serena was feeling her confidence rise. She wanted to show off. Of course she took a deep breath just to make sure what she felt was real before pulling open the doors. The heavy metal squeaked and scrapped drawing attention as she walked in pushing the hood down from her jacket and walked into the lunch room. All eyes were on me and it felt like that slow motion part in the movie where she cause food to fall, mouths to drop and eyes to look her up and down as she walked in to the cafeteria taking off the jacket. 'Is that Serena Evens?' 'I thought she was dead.'  'Didn't Dom say she left?' She kept hearing whispers about her, making her smirk, though she wasn't sure how she was hearing all of them exactly. Her ears seemed to be turned up on high and she could hear everything. Her eyes however were locked on one person, Dominic Mariano. His food fell from his hands as he stood there dumbfounded near his seat on the balcony. Where all the popular kids sat. His boys were to shocked to stop her as she walked up to him. He managed to sit down, so she was leaning over the table giving a full view of her rack down the corset.  "Surprised to see me Dom, alive?" She asked him with a smirk making him catch his breath. She could hear the pounding of his heart in his chest and the nervous gulp. He laughed softly, but before he could say anything his "girlfriend" grabbed Serena's shoulder and turned her around.  "What are you doing up here? No one wants...why are you dressed like some goth reject?" She still had her hands on Serena, pushing on her chest and shoving her which was making Serena's anger flare up. Serena grabbed her wrist quickly and twisted it until she was facing away form Serena and her arm was pinned to her back.  "Ever touch me again, I will break this arm." Serena whispered in the blondes ear before shoving her away and she turned to face Dom once again. "Don't worry Dom, I won't tell anyone, but this is just the beginning."  "Beginning of what, S?" He managed to get his words past a gulp. She smiled seductively once more and walked over, bending down so she was in his ear. "The new Serena. You wanted me didn't you? Well do you want me now, Dom? Thank you for leaving me out there darling, it really gave me a new outlook on life. See you later." Serena whispered before standing up and walking off feeling proud of herself. Giving a smirk to the blonde who was nursing her arm she walked out the way she came and left him sitting there speechless.
