Chapter VIII

It was a warm day in the Kingdom of Aevum. Kid’s laughs were coming from the playground. The birds were chirping and sunlight was covering Asya’s and Arryn’s faces. They were sitting on a bench near the playgrounds, talking about their lives, occasionally making jokes. Both of them were smiling and laughing. People were passing by, some were going to work, others were jogging. Many couples were passing by, holding a basket, going on a picnic. “… And that is when he went to the girls and threw his food at them” said Arryn, laughing. Asya also let out a laugh. She was looking at him like prey. Suddenly, it got cloudy and it started to rain lightly. Near the bench was a loud bang. A dark purple portal was opened and through it came Louis. Everyone around disappeared. “Having fun with Arryn, are you not, Asya?” said Louis. He looked really different. His eyes were dark. His outfit looked like a modernized Medieval outfit designed in dark purple and black. An emblem was displayed on his shoulders.  It also included a cloak and a pair of goggles. His ears were big, with extended down part, like the Shade has. He had a dark, evil look to himself. His voice sounded unbothered and unsurprised. He had an accessory on his head. The intricate gold headpiece rested at the side of his hair, near the eyes. It was set with vivid pink, brown, purple, and black gems.  It was designed in a forest motif with a look evocative of ancient Egyptian aesthetics. Asya looked to her side to see Arryn gone. She realized there was something different about Louis. The gems were glowing and that was a sign that he was being controlled. Her mouth was shut, she could not say anything. “I would like you to meet my master, Drera”. The portal opened back up and through it came Drera. Her outfit was done in dark blue and light gray.  She was wearing a short dress with a lacy skirt, a fitted waist, and bell-shaped sleeves, as well as a pair of shoes with heels.  Her accessories included a silk black scarf and a hair bow. She looked around first then shifted the whole scene in a dark room. Asya was still sitting on the bench, but tied up. Drera looked at Louis and said: “Why thank you for bringing me here, darling. You are free” then she turned to Asya “Hello Asya, have not seen you in a long time. Hope you missed me” she let out a small laugh “I only came to deliver a small message for your king. Tell him to give up the Protector’s Glaive or everyone in the kingdom will die. And this is proof”. She took a stick with a greek Y shape seal at the top of it. First, she lit the fire next to her and put the stick in the fire. Then she took it out and looked at it glowing. She let out a big laugh and sticked the seal to Asya’s right shoulder. Her arm filled with pain and she started screaming and crying. She woke up to someone knocking at the door. It was Meliorn. “Good morning Asya. It is time for training, meet me at the cafeteria for breakfast” said Meliorn and left. Asya’s face was wet from all the tears. Her head was hurting. She looked on the shoulder and saw the mark still there. At this point, she did not know what was real and what was not. She got changed and went in the bathroom. She stood in front of the window, thinking about her dream. Finally, she left her room which was in the castle as a part of the royalty rooms. She was already considered as royalty. In the cafeteria was Meliorn sitting on a table. As soon as he saw her, he waved a hand at her. She got her morning coffee and went to sit with Meliorn. “How are you enjoying your time here so far?” asked Meliorn. “Meliorn, I have something to tell you. Last night I had a dream with Drera. She threatened to kill everyone in the castle if we do not give her something. I think it was called the Protector’s Glaive?” Meliorn almost choked on his coffee when he heard that name. He was usually very chill, but now there was worry across his face. “That is why it was just a dream, do not worry” he said and continued sipping his coffee. “No, I think it was real like she meant it” said Asya. “No one can get in your head. It used to be possible in the past with a spell only Albedo could cast, but not anymore. It was just a nightmare” he said. Asya let go of it and accepted that it was just a nightmare. But what about the mark? She did not tell him about it. She figured he might go crazy by his reaction when he heard the name Protector’s Glaive. She was not interested in it. “What is the Protector’s Glaive?” she asked. “It is a glaive, used for protecting the city from demons and Shade entering. I am surprised you know about it so fast” said Meliorn “anyways let’s go get something to eat”. They stood up and went to the back of the cafeteria where the food was. There were many tables with all kinds of food. At the beginning of the tables were the plates. They were white porcelain plates with abstract outlines at the edges. They took one plate and continued down the tables. On the first table were different kinds of dishes in case anyone wanted an already made dish. Asya saw many new dishes. On the second table was ham, cheese and other simple food. There were tons of different kinds. On the third table, were salads, mushrooms and olives. There were many other tables and at the end was the cutlery. Between the tables, in the corners, were other smaller tables. On one of the tables was the bread with a toaster next to it. At the end of the tables was a coffee machine, a water machine, a tea machine and one filled with drinks she did not know about. Asya was a simple girl who liked water. There was also a woman standing behind a table, taking orders if anyone liked something else that was not on the tabkes. Asya’s attention caught a device that put some kind of dust on the dish. “What is that?” asked Asya, pointing at the device. “It is a machine that puts fairy dust on your dish. Fairy dust gives out different effects. It is usually used for fun. Let’s try it” Meliorn said. The machine gave different colored dust every time, so it was unpredictable. Meliorn got red rust on his food and Asya got green dust. “Red dust makes you see the world in red color, while green makes you see it slimy for a short period of time” said Meliorn. After finishing their food, the dust started kicking in. It gave Asya a brief slimy vision. She laughed. “How do you like the food?” asked Meliorn. “It was an enjoyable experience, thank you” said Asya. “I am leaving you to spend your day with Arryn now. He will show you around more”. They got up and went to the training rooms. Arryn was not there. Meliorn quickly asked someone for Arryn and they told him he was in his room. They went to Arryn’s room. It was on the third floor of the castle. This floor looked exactly the same, but the rooms looked completely different. The floor was meant for the king, queen and their family only. Meliorn and Arryn had separate rooms. Both were uniquely decorated with the oldest and most precious things. Asya slightly heard them talk. “… they called me, I have to go. Take good care of her and do not take her to trouble or else” told Meliorn Arryn. “Do not worry, do not worry. I will” said Arryn and Meliorn left. “Hello princess” said Arryn with a sarcastic tone looking at Asya.
