Asya’s mind went back to one of the familiar characters in her nightmares. She felt like she was sleepy and could not wake up. Her arms and legs were numb.
She was inside a room in the castle. The room was gray, lit with lanterns. It was dark outside. The wind was blowing. Asya was covered in a soft blanket. A woman with red hair was holding her. She looked familiar to Asya, but she could not quite remember who she was. She looked like one of the prettiest women she has ever seen. They were sitting on a large and long table, having dinner. It was elegantly decorated. Everyone was drinking a wine of glass and eating from the crispy chicken in the middle.
Next to them was an old bearded man with a golden crown. Probably the king, who was eating his chicken very slowly, enjoying every last piece of it. He was dressed in a gown. Across his face, he had a huge scar going through his eye which was dark brown almost black. The waiter came.
“Is there something else I can get you, your highness?” asked the waiter.
“If there is still left of the beef, I would like that” said the king.
“I will check now” said the waiter, then he turned to the woman holding Asya. “Would you like anything else, my queen?”
“No thanks Alfred, thanks for your kindness”. Then Alfred left the room.
After he left, the king got up from his big chair and said:
“I have gathered you all today to have a happy time. I hope all of you are enjoying your meals and may we get many other. Thank the angels for where we have gotten today. I would like to say that this dinner was in honor of my wife, Irriel, and our new baby, Asya. We must protect her at all costs. Can we have a toast to Asya?”
Everyone got up and had a toast, as they cheered on. The king sat down and her mother Irriel got up and said:
“I would like to say that I am very thankful for what we have achieved and may we have many more victories. Asya is the first child I have ever had and may she not be the last”.
On the opposite side of Irriel and Asya, sat a middle-aged man. He was bald and wearing a dark blue robe with pants. Around his pants was a belt with a spell book and a single dagger.
“I would like to thank Siltral and Irriel for this wonderful meal. I will cherish this for the rest of my life. From this day on, I pledge my sword to Asya and I shall guard her with all I have. I will not let anything bad happen to her. A toast to Asya”
And they did another toast.
“Thank you, Dillon for your loyalty. May you protect her from all evils. Now let us finish this tasty meal” said Siltral.
They continued their meal. Suddenly, it started storming outside and the lanterns got put off. Darkness filled the room. Voices started screaming. Alfred came in.
“My highness, Drera has arrived. She is entering the front gate with her soldiers as we speak. What are your orders sir?” said Alfred.
“Call everyone in the army and send them out right now. We must not waste any time. Dillon, get the ancient remains quickly and meet me in the sewers. Irriel, hide in the infirmary with Asya. Do not let anyone get near her. After we find a safe way out, we will evacuate everyone out of the city. Rest of you, help Irriel and Asya get safely to the infirmary. May the angel be on our side” said the king.
He got his fighting gear really quickly and went to the weapons storage room to get a sword. He got two swords. One for him and for Irriel. He went back to the dining room and gave Irriel the sword.
“May you be safe Irriel and know, if we do not make it out alive, I love you and always will. Even in the afterlife. My spirit is with you”.
“We will get through this Siltral. May we see each other soon” said Irriel before they parted ways.
In the meantime, Dillion went to his room and got his gear and sword. Before he left, he opened the spell book drawer and switched his spell book for another, bigger one. He opened on a page and got a piece of paper. As fast as he could, he wrote:
Dear Sibell,
As I am writing this, we are being attacked by Drera. She has been working hard and made new inventions. Faster and stronger. I do not know if we will leave this place alive. Asya will be sent to the infirmary with her mother. I read something in the ancient books no one else knows about. Asya is destined to defeat Drera and the Shade. Take care of her until she is old and strong enough. Protect Asya at all costs and train her to be out saviour. May we see each other in the afterlife.
Dillon
After he finished, he used a spell and sent the paper flying in the air. He then went to Irriel.
“Are you ready my queen?” he asked.
“Yes, lets do this swiftly. Oh and before you go, can you take my bag? Thank you” she said.
Together they ran to the infirmary. People were running and fighting. The Shade got deep inside the wall. Irriel was holding Asya as tight as possible. She was terrified. As they were running, one of the Shade attacked them. Dillion sliced right through him and continued running. Then another one came. He was not a regular Shade, he was bigger and could cast fire magic. Before he swung his sword, Dillion attacked him. He could not slice right through him.
“Get to the infirmary, my queen. I will be fast” he said while fighting.
Irriel ran while holding Asya. One of the stronger Shades cast a fire ball at her, but she ducked under a tree. She got quickly inside and locked the door. When she turned around, she saw that the infirmary was also burning, but there was no other safe place. Suddenly, a wooden plank fell on her and burnt her face. Her leg was broken and she could not move. She looked at Asya and said:
“My precious little child, I love you. Keep this with you and when you are ready, come back to the castle. The light will guide you”.
And she gave her a necklace with a small key on it. The rest of the time she was alive, she must scream, so that no one can hear her and capture Asya.
Asya’s vision went back to the room in the institute. Her heart was pounding.
“The same people from my nightmares. Why are you showing me this Meliorn?”
“Asya, those were not nightmares, those were memories”.
