Alpha Nathan’s POV “We believe the attacker was an assassin sent to kill you, perhaps because of the election,” James said, but I wasn’t paying attention. My mind was filled with thoughts of Lisa. I wondered how she was and how Cain was treating her. “Nathan… are you okay?” James asked, but I didn’t respond. “You shouldn’t have sent her away if you know you can’t take it, Nathan. It’s been just a day since she left, and you haven’t been yourself.” I sighed heavily, dragging a hand through my hair as I slouched into the chair. James wasn’t wrong. It had only been a day since Lisa left, and the ache in my chest hadn’t lessened. If anything, it had grown worse. “She’s safer there,” I muttered, more to convince myself than him. “Cain will protect her. She will live a happier life there.”
