Zane POV
The room itself was a heated tension, I was meant to bring her along but ended up being here alone.
The air was heavy with unspoken words as the elders were gathered.
The silence hung like a challenge, each elder waiting for the others to speak first, their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills.
All I did was gulp down the glass of champagne and hear them whine like cats and dogs while thinking of the next family I'd slay tonight.
Every face was etched with deep lines, telling stories of years lived and wisdom earned, yet now set in determined, almost stubborn, expressions.
"A stray!"
Those words hits me hard that I smashed the glass in my hand on the ground.
"Anyone who calls her that again would have their head on my feet!"
"We can't have a Luna from a rivalry pack" the second added. He was axir, a gamma certainly known to be plain and having no sides.
"Say that to the rogue you married" i snapped back, quite stunned I was responding to them over a girl I barely have no interest in.
"We mean no war but it's against the traditions, she might cause trouble or fulfill the prophecy..."
"Screw your prophecies, I'd keep her under my watch, she won't be trouble, just stick to navigating territories" I replied suddenly contemplating on my words.
Do I even know her? She was daring since today that she had my wolf and I puzzled.
The way she stared at me, isn't she aware no one looks at me in the eyes?
She said my breath stinks! I would have dragged her by the hair to make her repeat those words if she dares.
Xyn had me feel my breath like a fool and I found myself using multiple mouthwash.
Gand, my wolf keeps sneering and stretching, he was always quiet not until he set eyes on her that he wouldn't let me rest.
I had to shun him, even though he keeps trolling around, wanting me to check up on her since she broke an ankle.
No! I don't like it, having to look out for someone.
The only reason she was here was because her father used her as a leverage to settle their debts to us.
I was meant to slay them all but then, why didn't I? A sided smile left my lips having to watch alpha Desmon go on his knees and beg me not to take his daughter.
He had such a brat that could just fit in to my problem. It's just a matter of time until I wear the crown and I'd dispose her.
"You aren't fit for the crown!"
"Neither are you greedy aloof"
That was carix, the head of the beta in this pack. He never hides his intensions and always points out a flaw in me.
"We don't support this union!"
Everyone fell silent when the clicking sound of heels stormed in.
The only sound was the soft ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner.
The atmosphere was thick with anticipation. They respect her even more than the alpha of this pack.
It was her, my step mother and the bloody Luna. I heaved a sigh, grabbing another glass to pour myself champagne.
My palm was bleeding from the glasses that pierced me yet, I remained unmoved.
She walked with grace and elegance, maintaining a half-baked smile as she bow respectfully to everyone.
My wolf snarl at her, as though he'd scratch her eyes out.
She took her sit, adjacent everyone and I blew a raspberry wanting this meeting to come to an end.
Then she began a speech that freaks me out.
"I understand the outcome of this, I know you love her but..."
I don't! I'd never.
I ran a finger through my hair, feeling sweaty as she was giving a never ending speech in a soothing tone that one would wonder what makes her bloody.
"Are you done?" I mused and her smile faded, it's the only way to end such conversation.
"Watch your manner Zane" carix spat like he'd shove a dagger in my mouth.
"I'd take that as a yes" I added rising up from my seat and stepping on the shattered pieces below me.
I gave a bow to everyone in the room and turn to my heel with a dull face.
I had almost reached for the door when she said; "the words of your father are..."
There was a pause in that line when my feet halt. I rolled my eyes with an expression of contempt.
"Find a mate in a week, he isn't accepting her"
I threw my gaze at her and then burst into a hysterical laughter. I threw my head to the back, exhaled and then scrolled my eyes to everyone gathered.
"He knows I break the rules, send him my regards"
