I'm Zylith, 21, and I'm just broken right now. Though I don't dress fancy, don't wear makeup, and I use glasses but why did Mike have to call my clothes rags? It hurts so bad. I was crying silently, trying not to make a scene and then they brought up Anne! What's wrong with me?
"We know Anne likes her friend Zylith, and if we can befriend Zylith, she'll be our friend too... and then, you know" Josh said, grinning.
"Do you know how desperately I wanted Anne to be my girlfriend? One day, Anne, Zylith, and I were walking together, she held my hand and Zylith's too, but my heart was racing and I was so happy that I felt like asking her out on the spot. But she only cares about Zylith and I know she’s friends with me just because of her. Yet Zylith was such an i***t, she never noticed me constantly asking about Anne and her preferences. But I enjoy our time together. She was always shy around me, and I could sense she had feelings for me which I don’t mind as long as she can help me get close to her friend. She don’t know how she looks, like a bumpkin! " Mike said, and they all laughed.
"Who wouldn't like Anne? She's beautiful, has a great figure and she's rich! oh my gosh! that girl's perfect" Maxwell said.
"Of course" his friend jimmy said.
I've had enough, I need to go home. I wipe my face and head back. This is the saddest day of my life. I can't believe none of them like me. I thought Mike was different, he treats me so nice that I don’t know when I fell in love with him. People can be brutal. Do they think I'm numb? I don’t have any feelings at all?
I'll make them regret it. I wiped my face, but the tears keep flowing. I took a taxi home
I opened the door, slumped onto the floor and sobbed uncontrollably. Why were they using me as a pawn to get Anne? If they wanted to date her, they should've just asked her out. Just because I'm not fashionable doesn't mean I'm unkempt or wear rags.
Mike was brutal, even if he didn't love me, why had he toyed with my emotions? Self loathing consumed me. I cringed whenever he recounted how I hadn't resisted his attempted kiss, it made me feel utterly foolish. My phone's ring broke the silence, it was Anne.
"Hello" I tried not to make it obvious that I have been crying.
"You promised to call me and you never did. This Is 10 on dot!" she said.
"It's just that I'm... busy and... you know, I would've called you," I stuttered, my voice trembling.
"Are you crying? Why is your voice shaking? and I didn't get what you are saying" she said, sounding worried.
"No, I’m not. Why will I cry?" I fake a laugh.
"Don't tell me Mike reject you! Don't worry I’m coming right now!"
"I am fi.......” she hung up, cutting me off mid sentence
I'm drowning in chaos, my thoughts are a jumbled mess. Why me? The question echoed endlessly in my mind, refusing to subside.
I kept crying over and over
"Why me! Why!!!! I shouted aloud.
"It's fine darling" I heard Anne's voice
I turned around and I saw Anne "When did you get in?" I asked surprised
"It's been four minutes, I open the door and I saw you crying and shouting, I was confused at first and that why I kept quiet" she said looking pitiful.
I look at my phone to check the time and the time says 10:26 pm. Anne's house wasn't that far from my house.
"Don't worry, you will find a nice guy better than Mike, it's Mike loss if he reject you cause he don't knows that he lose a beautiful and perfect girl" she said trying to comfort me.
"Perfect? Reject?"I smirked.
"If he reject me that would have been better" I said, my tone laced with bitterness
"Then why are you crying" she asked curiously
I explain everything to Anne about what happened earlier.
"What? Why would he go that far just because he likes me? If he likes me, why can't he just ask me out? Why did he have to toy with your feelings because of me? Why did they use you as a pawn in their games?" She fired off the questions, her words tumbling out in a rush.
"Anne" I called her name
"Yes I’m listening" she responds
"It hurts, it feels like my heart is pierced with an arrow, it really hurts" I said crying.
Anne hug me and a drop of tears fall on my back I raise my head up.
"Why are you crying?"
"Why won't I cry? This happened all because of me," she replied, her voice cracking under the weight of self blame.
"You don't need to do take the blame, it wasn't your fault at all" I said trying to soothe her
"I'm sorry," she whispered, breaking down in tears. I tried to compose myself, she cried so much that it dwarfed my own heartbreak.
"It's fine, Don’t cry"
