Valerie waited until late at night before setting out to meet Blair. She knew Leo would be watching for her, as the search for her had not stopped. Mark had gone out earlier to ensure it was safe for her to leave. Valerie pulled on a black hoodie to conceal her identity before heading out to join Mark, who was already waiting for her in the car.
“Stop right here,” Valerie said.
Mark did as instructed before turning to face Valerie. “Why?” he asked.
Valerie pointed at the far end of the road. “They look like they work for Leo. I think it’s safer to go through the back,” she said, unbuckling her seatbelt.
"Let me come with you," Mark said, holding her hands.
"No, stay here," Valerie said before leaning in to kiss Mark.
