chapter 3

Ashley pov: I wanted to yell until Mom woke up. How can I live without her? What about the baby? She needs her… we both need her. “Please, Mom… please wake up.” I went near her and kissed her face—maybe for the last time. “Mom, I love you… can you hear me, Mom? Please wake up,” I whispered near her ear. “Excuse me… who are you?” a nurse interrupted my conversation with Mom. I turned around and froze after seeing my little baby sister in her arms. Even though my eyes were swollen from crying for so long, a small smile appeared on my lips after seeing my little one’s adorable face. “Who are you, kid? What are you doing here?” the nurse asked, pulling me out of my thoughts. “Give me the baby,” I requested. The nurse clearly wasn’t expecting that. She asked, “Sorry… what?” I repeated myself patiently. “Please give me the baby.” “And who are you?” she asked with a confused look. “I am her sister… please, sister, give my baby sister to me,” I pleaded. But then she said, “Sorry, it’s the Alpha’s order. I can’t disobey it.” I lost my temper—maybe for good. I yelled, “She is my sister and my responsibility. I will never allow anyone to send her away from me. Give her to me—that is an order!” I believed that as the Alpha’s first daughter, I had the right. Didn’t I? She bowed her head as I raised my voice. I took the baby from her arms. I knew she was mind-linking someone, and it wasn’t her fault either. When I held my baby and hugged her tightly, it felt like all the sorrow and pain in my chest disappeared. She was so adorable. I wondered how anyone could abandon her. After seeing her sweet little face, maybe Dad would change his decision… would he? I hoped so. I would make him change his decision. I was sure he loved me enough to choose my happiness. Then I heard a loud growl. Knowing who it was, I turned around and saw my dad, burning with anger. I knew I had made a mistake coming here alone, but he didn’t give me any other option, did he? I whispered, “Dad…” Behind him were Beta Uncle and the doctor from earlier. They looked worried. My dad growled, “Give her to the nurse right now, Ashley.” I had never seen my dad this angry before. Hearing him call my full name made me realize how serious he was. But I couldn’t break the promise I made to my mom. So I said, “No.” Everyone was shocked. They didn’t expect me to disobey him. Beta Uncle said calmly, “Ash, baby… let’s not make your dad more angry. Please listen to him. It’s been a long day for him. Now that you know everything, be a good girl, okay?” Tears rolled down my cheeks, realizing no one would help me—not even Beta Uncle. But I was done being the “good girl.” If it were about me, I would obey. But this was about my little sister… and the promise I made to my late mom. Through my sobs, I said, “Dad, please listen to me once. I promise I will take care of her. I will be a good girl. It’s not only about my little sister… it’s a promise I made to Mom. I can’t break it. If I do, Mom will never forgive me. Please… even if not for me, then for Mom, please let me keep my baby sister.” I hoped Dad would change his mind. But his expression didn’t soften. Instead, he said in a harsh tone, “She is a murderer. She killed my mate—your mother. I will never forgive her. If your mom isn’t with us today, it is because of her, yet you are arguing with me for the murderer?” I couldn’t bear hearing anything against my baby sister. “It’s not true, Dad. Like you lost your mate, we also lost our mom. She is Mom’s last wish. We can’t abandon her. Please, Dad… I promise I will do whatever you say after this. Please let me keep my baby girl.” He went silent for a moment. A small hope rose in my heart. Then he said, “Okay…” A sudden relief filled my body, and I closed my eyes, thinking he had changed his mind. A smile appeared on my lips. But it lasted only a few seconds. “I will give you two options,” he continued. I frowned in confusion. What two options? “You either choose me and let her go, or you choose her over me. If you choose her, from that moment, you are dead to me. We will have no relationship anymore.” Am I going insane? My dad would never say that… how can a person change like this in a single day? No… it’s not him speaking. How can I choose between the two people I love the most? He is the only family we have left after Mom. How can he abandon us? It’s not about chocolate or pizza… it’s about my family. Where would I go if not to him? Who do I have besides him? I am still a kid. I didn’t know what to say or how to react. I froze. Before I could speak, someone tried to take my sister from my arms. “No! Don’t you dare touch her!” I screamed. The nurse stepped back immediately. I knew I was nothing without my dad, but I couldn’t abandon her like he was doing. After all, I promised my mom that no matter what happens, I would protect her and never leave her side. A loud growl pulled me back. “So you choose her over me? Are you out of your mind? Did you think about how you will survive? Remember this—this is your choice. After this, don’t ever come to me. From now on, I am no one to you, and you are no longer my daughter. Don’t ever come back to this house again.” I whispered, “Dad… please…” But I couldn’t finish. He turned to Beta Uncle and said, more like giving an order, “From today, Ashley Adler is not my daughter anymore. If she stays in the pack, she will live as an Omega. If she leaves, she is free to be a rogue. She is not allowed in the pack house. Am I clear?” Beta Uncle nodded, wiping his tears. I knew he had no choice but to obey his Alpha’s order. Dad left the hospital without looking back. I ran after him, carrying my sister in my arms, begging him to stop—but he never turned around, not even once. It was like I had truly become a stranger to him. Just yesterday, we were a happy family at the farmhouse… and today, I had become nothing to my own father. Why? Mom died… Dad abandoned us… we became homeless… and now no one is left by our side. I didn’t know where to go when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned and saw Beta Uncle. I hugged him, and he patted me gently. But then he asked, “What do you want to be… a rogue or an Omega?” I stepped back in shock. What…? Isn’t there anyone who feels sorry for us? How can he ask me something like that? Didn’t he have to support me and defend me? But it seemed I was wrong… and I knew it wasn’t entirely his fault.
