Chapter One
Lily’s POV
“Hey, pretty lady!”
A shrill, irritating voice sliced through the music, yanking me back to where I sat at the bar. I turned toward the source and recoiled immediately.
The man was disheveled, his clothes barely hanging on, and his stench like a mix of cheap liquor and something far worse hit me like a wall. I couldn’t even breathe without gagging.
“f**k off!” I answered, shutting him up before he said another word. I didn’t have enough patience stored inside me for that night.
The goal was simple: get drunk, have fun, maybe even find some eye candy to flirt with. This guy? He was none of the above.
“Don’t be like that, sweetie,” he slurred, leaning in way too close. I pushed my drink away, holding my breath to avoid the toxic cloud he was emitting. “I just wanna get to know you.”
His breath, laced with something foul, practically made my eyes water. The urge to punch him swept over me but I didn’t want any trouble.
“I said, piss off,” I growled, my voice colder, more threatening. “Or I’ll make sure you end up dead in a ditch with your d**k stuffed in your mouth.”
He staggered back, blinking at me like I’d just spoken another language.
“You ugly b***h! You should be grateful I even approached you!” he sneered, his sharp voice rising as he stood up to walk away.
“Yeah, f**k off, loser!” I shot back, turning away, glad to be rid of him. My fingers clenched around my drink, the anger from the encounter still sizzling in my veins.
This night was supposed to be my escape from everything, but now it felt tainted.
“Where the hell is that dumbass?” I pulled out my phone, glancing at the time, taking a long sip from my glass.
I was waiting for Kristina, my best friend in college, and her boyfriend to attend a party together this Sunday evening and they were both taking their sweet time after promising not to be late.
I sucked in a deep breath and took another sip, letting the bitter taste drown the noisy crowd in the background that now seemed to bother me.
“Hey, baby!”
A small body collided with mine, and before I could react, Kristina was squeezing me in a tight hug. “You ready to get wasted?” she squealed, her excitement matching the pulse of the bass in the club.
“Yeah I was ready like two hours ago!” I answered with a blank expression and my voice filled with so much indifference.
“Aww come on I wasn’t even that late.” Her lips pouting. I shot her a quick glare, and she immediately wrapped her arms around me. “Okay, I’m sorry I was late.”
“It’s fine!” I let out a defeated sigh. “Where’s Josh?” I asked, glancing around for him.
Oh, he’s upstairs with the guys. Getting the party started. Let’s go!” she said, already pulling me toward the stairs that surrounded the dance floor.
We weaved through the crowded, dark, decadent world, where velvet-lined walls and moody neon lights glowed, the music vibrating through my chest, the air thick with heat and body odor.
This was my rebellious life, the one I lived to escape my father’s expectations; loud, chaotic, and full of people who didn’t care about anything but the next drink or high.
We finally reached the VIP area, where Josh and his crew had rented a private room. I could already hear the laughter, the sound of clinking glasses, and loud voices over the heavy beat.
Lily! You’re here!” Josh shouted as he rushed over to hug me. He patted my back lightly with a grin. “Alright, people! Let’s get this party started!” And indeed the party began.
I didn’t need any more encouragement. I grabbed the first drink I could find, downing it in one go, the fire of the alcohol burning its way down my throat.
Hours slipped by, each drink and puff of rolled blunts blurring the edges of my vision and thoughts.
Every pulse in my body thumped to the sound of the beat that now intoxicated me, swaying my hips and letting myself go as I chugged more plastic cups of hard liquor from different mixtures.
I felt the familiar heat that crawled inside me teasing my intimate parts as I grinded against the guys partying with us.
The alcohol took over, drowning out any sense of regret. It was just me, the music, and the pulsing rhythm that made everything else fade away.
But eventually, the buzz started to wear off. Fatigue set in, and the crowded room felt suffocating. I needed air.
I looked around for Kristina and Josh, but they were lost in their own little world making out and dry humping each other.
I didn’t even bother trying to get their attention. I slipped away, heading toward the balcony to get some space.
I found a quiet spot, leaning against the rail and looking down at the crowded club below.
The night air was cooler, the loud thumping beat below muffled by the thick walls of the VIP area.
I closed my eyes for a moment, letting the cool breeze ease the tension in my body.
Soon the same shrill, irritating voice I heard earlier grazed my ears again.
“You!... You… you f*****g b***h!” He yelled.
My body stiffened, my eyes snapping open. The drunk asshole was back, his words slurring as he staggered closer, pointing at me with his thick, sausage-like fingers.
He looked worse now, his face a mess, his vomit-stained clothes hanging off him like they were a part of someone else’s life.
“Oh Christ! Not this i***t again!” I grimaced, rubbing my temples from the headache I knew he was about to give me. “How did he even get here?” My nerves were still all over the place from the blast I had.
He was closing In fast, and I shot my arm out, ready to push him away. But he didn’t stop. He just kept coming, his stench washing over me.
“Who let you in, you sewage rat?” I hissed, my patience running thin.
“What did you say to me?” He gripped my wrist, twisting it painfully.
“Let go of me you bastard!” I screamed, catching the attention of the people around who turned to look. My eyes begging for help, but people only watched, murmuring.
“You little brat! I ought to reach you some manners!” A heinous smile curled his lips. “I bet you’ll stay quiet when I do.”
His breath was hot against my skin, and his words made my blood run cold. I kept trying to break free, but he was stronger than I’d expected.
I shut my eyes trying to think of ways to free myself from his painful grip.
Suddenly, a loud thud cut through the air. The man’s grip loosened, followed by a painful grunt from him.
I blinked, my heart racing, the drunkard was now on the floor holding his face and screaming.
I looked up. Standing in front of me was a tall figure, his broad back turned to me. He wore a navy blue suit that fit him like it was tailored just for him.
He grabbed the drunk man, lifting him off the ground with ease and landing another punch, then another.
The man was dragged away, his face half caved in, while I stood there, stunned and trying to process everything that just happened.
“Are you alright?” The deep voice pulled me back to reality. I turned to look at the tall man now facing me, feeling my stomach flutter.
My jaws dropped the moment our gaze met. His front view was even better.
I couldn’t help but stare. He was one of those men who somehow looked even better every second.
He had a jawline so sharp it could cut glass, with an intense gaze that pulled me in dangerously.
His dark slightly long hair, styled but also perfectly messy, like he’d just run his hand through it a second ago. And the suit?
Two buttons undone at the collar, no tie, just enough to be dangerously attractive without trying too hard.
I felt my insides squirming with excitement, almost drowning the fear I felt seconds ago as he wiped the blood from his hands with a handkerchief. I knew immediately I wanted him.
“Miss?” his low, dangerously seductive voice snapped me back to reality again, almost making me flinch.
“Oh uhh yes! Thank you.” I mumbled, trying to drown the dirty thoughts. Chills ran down my spine as the disgusting face of the p*****t came back to mind.
“Lily!” Kristina’s voice rang out while she sped towards me with Josh pulling me into her arms. “Oh my Goodness are you alright?! I looked away for a second, and you were gone!”
“I’m fine, I’m fine!” I answered, trying to peel away from her hug. Finally, after a minute of struggling, she let go.
When I looked back to thank the guy again, he was already gone. Disappeared into the crowd.
