Chapter Eleven My hands wouldn’t stop sweating as I waited outside the Domes Council’s chamber. I wished I could have been in some far away corridor where I could pace and panic in peace, but the chamber was up near the atrium where I could almost see the place I’d bolted past the guards. I couldn’t bring myself to feel guilty for trying to get to Mari. She was my sister. She was mine to protect. Not Miranda’s, and certainly not some kep guard’s. But I had to pretend to feel sorry for it. Had to act like a traumatized girl. Had to hope punching a guard wasn’t a big enough offense to get me kicked out of the domes or have the Council start asking questions about the three orphans transferred from the Ice Domes.
