“What are you talking about?” Godmother asked me.
It hit me this time...the freaking mate scent slammed into me like a truck.
Damn. Who was that?
I clutched my chest. The bond reacted hard..my chest ached so badly blood dripped from my nose.
Godmother’s eyes widened. “Drexel, are you okay?” she asked again.
I looked at her and nodded, but everything was confusing at this point.
My Alpha instincts had been slow these days...obviously because of Dex, the fool blocking communication with me.
Godmother kept screaming my name, but I didn’t answer.
I’d felt someone listening to our conversation, and that person carried my damn mate scent.
I gripped my head. I needed to head to Cappadocia...what the hell was really going on?
I left the garden and went straight to my room.
She wasn’t anywhere to be found..the mask girl. Valerie said she wasn’t one of her girls. Then who the f**k was she, and where was she?
My room looked suspicious. The closet was open. Who came here?
Her lingerie lay on the floor. She’d pulled it off..obviously...and worn my clothes.
While I was lost in thought, two voices came up in my head...my gamma and beta mind-linking me.
They spoke in unison. “Alpha, there’s chaos.”
I responded calmly. “Sky, Milan...what’s wrong?”
Milan spoke—she always talked too much. “Alpha, the Dragon King is back. He’s currently in the east kingdom, and King Draven wants to see you!”
I smirked. Draven hadn’t learned his lesson yet.
“Prepare the barrier for me. I’m coming. Keep everyone safe at VDK. Make sure the west and north borders are secure. I’ll go directly to the east. I’ll mind-link you when I need you both.”
“Sure, Alpha.”
I disconnected them.
Draven was playing with fire he couldn’t handle.
I stood, opened a locker...my pistol was missing. The heck? I’d kept it there.
I tried to remember who came into my room, but nothing came.
Damn.
I closed the locker, opened another, took out my cigarette, and lit it.
The smoke filled the whole room...that’s how I loved it. Darkness and smoke were great combos.
My phone rang. I checked the caller ID....Leonardo, Godmother’s son.
I swiped green.
“Deal done?” he asked.
“What deal?” I answered.
“Don’t freaking play with me, Valerian. I called Godmother—she didn’t pick.
I shouldn’t have picked mine either.” I replied him.
“Tell me why the hell you’re calling me about a deal you didn’t sign for, huh?
Shut the f**k up, bastard. You think I’m stupid? You and my mom do only what you like. It’s an alliance meant for the clan members.” He snarled. “No wonder you don’t come to Italy...so no one questions you.”
“Even if I came, you wouldn’t dare ask me such questions.” I answered
He hissed. I hung up.
The nerve.
If not for me, his father’s clan would already be in the mud.
I puffed the cigarette hard, thinking what to do to that fool Draven when I got to my kingdom.
“Drexel, where are you?” a voice came up in my mind.
Why the hell were they disturbing my peace?
It was my stepbrother, Damon.
“What do you want?” I asked.
He laughed. “You’re asking me what I want? Your so-called kingdom is in chaos. So foolish of them making you the Alpha.”
I gritted my teeth. “The hell would you speak to your Alpha that way?”
“I’m still your elder brother... Alpha or not. Let that get into your skull.”
“Stepbrother,” I said.
“We’re stepbrothers...that doesn’t mean you can talk to me the way you like, just because you’re the Alpha who doesn’t know what to do.
A dragon you should have destroyed, what stopped you? Because you can’t. You aren’t skilled. You’re not trained. You don’t have the ability.”
He kept ranting.
I chuckled. “Coming from a person who’s wolfless.”
Silence.
He dared not speak....he brought it on himself.
“Do you even know what it feels like to shift, huh? Do you know what it’s like for your wolf to talk to you? Do you know wolf strength? Of course you freaking don’t. You can’t relate.”
“Yet you rant like some chicken coming out of hot water. You’d better use your time wisely...because you obviously lack sense of reasoning.”
I hung up after that.
If he’d respected himself and not called, I wouldn’t have insulted him. Such a low-brain claiming seniority.
I kept the cigarette on the tray to dust the ashes off.
Immediately, someone barged into my room...no knock.
The hell. This place is so stuffy.
“Whoever you are, please quit smoking. It isn’t good...you’re just destroying your lungs.”
She kept ranting.
I stayed quiet, switched on the light.
She froze like she’d seen a ghost.
I looked at her. The heat on her face said it all.
It was a maid.. these shitty beings. I’d warned Mia not to let anyone except Clara into my room.
Immediately, the mate scent hit again...this time much harder. I started coughing blood, real hard.
She got me water. I drank, but it didn’t help.
“Who are you?” I asked her.
She stammered, “Clara, sir.”
My wolf growled inside and shouted, “Shut the f**k up, Ryvessa. No matter what you’re doing, I know all your moves, mate.”
I grabbed her neck and kissed her fiercely...hungry, like I’d been craving it for days.
This time the mating mark showed on our chests, glowing brightly.
I whispered, “No more lying again, mate. You’re mine.”
