My body shook. The way he held me..delicate, yet there wasn’t any space between us. He knew everything. How creepy could this man be? He knew I drugged him. I was almost sure he knew I was the criminal too. Then why was he kissing me? Why was he still caressing me when he could easily lock me in the basement and carry out whatever execution ritual they had? Why? The whole thing confused me. Could he be playing along the way I did? Welcoming me into his dangerous territory? A light sparkled between our chests...beautiful, glowing. Even while it shone, he didn’t stop kissing me. I forcefully broke the kiss. He locked eyes with me. Damn...had I been blind all this while? The man was freaking handsome. Eyes blue like the ocean, heart-shaped face, jawline sharp enough to cut. Ouuu. Why was I dripping over a man I was supposed to arrest? A freaking criminal whose lips had just been on mine. I broke eye contact. “I’m sorry, sir. I just came to serve your food. I have to head back to the kitchen.” I bowed my head. He raised my chin. All of a sudden, my scarf flew off to God-knows-where. I gasped. The heck...was it the wind? Who touched my head? Of course no one. He looked at me. “You’re the criminal, right?” he asked. My ears went numb. My heart pounded. My head screamed doom. Oh God, I’m so doomed. Today is my end. I started praying silently...God, accept me into your kingdom. I forgive all my enemies. I was still muttering when his voice cut in. “Speak, mate.” The hell...this was the third time he’d called me that. What did it even mean? My lips weren’t helping. I was tense, stuttering. Then, without thinking, I blurted, “No!” He stood and walked to the window. I saw him smirk. I regretted the word instantly. His voice came, low and calm. “Vessa, you’re still lying even when I know the truth. Even when I know you’re the one who fell through the wedding roof. Even when I know you were on a mission to arrest me.” I was shocked. How on earth did this man know so much? Okay, there was every possibility he knew I was the criminal...but a cop? Hell no. Was he some wizard? I walked closer to him. “And of course you know I’m a virgin too?” He smirked. I frowned...that wasn’t what I meant to say. It was as if I'm been controlled, on what to say. I tried to speak again, but nothing came out. He looked at me. I looked at him. He said, “Vessa, if I wanted the truth, it wouldn’t take me a second. Quit the act. I know everything. And I love your feistiness.” I eyed him. “You think you can arrest me? I’ll show you why for thirty-six years I’ve been on every police wanted list.” He said, of course he should be proud because, that's an achievement. I hissed. He held my hands and led me to the bed. The sheets reminded me of that night was....crazy. I blushed. He noticed. “Enough blushing, cop.” I hissed again. He continued. “I have a kingdom where I’m king. In my tradition, you must have a wife after a year of kingship. I’m heading into my second year.” I frowned. “How is that my business? Do I look like someone interested in your kingship? If I ever get married, it’s to my billionaire husband who will love and care for me.” He stared. I kept going. “Your bride...your wife-to-be...died on your big day because you didn’t care. You slept with someone else that same night. So who am I?” He said, “You’re different, Ryvessa.” “In what way?” I needed to know. This man was creepy. Who knew if “mate” was just a trick to end me? “You’re my mate. A companion. I don’t do love...my heart condemns it.” I was speechless. “So throughout being your queen, mate, wife...you won’t love me? A loveless marriage my whole life?” He nodded. “Yes. But you can divorce if you want...after you give me an heir first.” I looked lost. What the hell was happening? “What if I say no to all this?” I asked. He stood, smirked. “Then I guess hell is about to welcome you.”
