Chapter 1
♣Marie Smith♣
I stretched forth my hand that held the papers, heart throbbing against its ribcage as I'd literally mustered all the courage I had.
His brows furrowed a little when he turned to the papers, but apart from that, he still maintained the same cold indifferent look he always had on.
“Henry, let's get a divorce.” I'd said it.
The word I'd wanted to say for a year already.
Oh gosh.
His gaze shifted from the papers to mine, and he held it.
“Please, just free me from this b*****e you call marriage.” I needed freedom.
That was something I really really needed and oh please, I hoped he also felt the same need.
His brows straightened as he glanced at the obviously expensive wrist watch he had on.
It was obvious that was to let me know he was late for somewhere and I was stopping him from leaving.
When he turned back to me, there was nothing but lack of interest in those eyes of his.
Seriously?
This was a man that was so easy for one to fall for.
Because of what a handsome feature he was blessed with.
I mean, who on earth would not fall for his chiseled jawline and defined facial structure that always spoke confidence.
His subtly curved lips with his sharp cheekbones and straight nose always caught the attention of every single female on earth.
It didn't help that he had to be born as those rare ones with green eyes and black hair which added to the beauty of his deep set eyes.
His broad shoulders and chest was something every female dreamt of running their hand through.
Same with the athlete built structure he was blessed with that led every female drooling and you must be insane not to fall for him.
I mean, he's literally six foot two inches with six freaking packs and an extremely hot stature.
So yeah, I was also part of those female drooling over him till we actually got married—
“No.” His voice snapped me out of my admiration town.
My brows furrowed, followed by me dropping my hand. “What do you mean no?”
I knew it was going to go this way. I knew he'd not just agree so easily.
He won't.
I mean, we're talking about Henry Smith right now. The Henry Smith.
He checked the time on his watch again, looking close to just walking out. “Listen, I've got to go, I'm gonna be late.”
My heart raced faster. I couldn't let him go
No..
That'd be it.
He'd never give me another chance to revisit the discussion.
This was a time to be bold Marie.
So, squaring my shoulders, I tried calming my racing heart by inhaling a few breaths of confidence.
He was about to turn, when I quickly added, “if you don't sign it, I'll take this to court,” which stopped him in his tracks.
A shadow I actually feared swept past his expression as he took a step towards me. “You won't dare.”
The way he said it shook me internally (hopefully it was internally), but one thing was for sure.
He might be a devil, but he'd never raise a finger on me so I mustered a lot of courage to not shrink in fear.
“I won't if you sign it.” Every male feared a court divorce, but no one probably had a problem with it as much as Henry.
He wasn't a normal dude, but a celebrity and a billionaire.
He was the definition of wealth, so a court divorce could lead to me taking more than intended from him.
It could also be a huge stain on his fame considering how we'd gotten married.
How it had blown through all social media.
With a sigh, his shoulders relaxed a little as he took two steps back.
“I promise I won't take a dime from you if you just sign it now and let us both go our separate ways.” My eyes pleaded for him to just accept.
“One year,” he stared at me as though exhausted with the conversation.
“One year? One year of what?” I asked in confusion.
“We've been married for a year, and you know what effect this divorce can have on my life.”
I did, but at that point, I couldn't care less about him.
Only about my sanity and happiness.
“And one year of me just staying in this thing you call marriage.” It was tiring to have to continue repeating the same thing. I just wanted a divorce.
“How about this,” he seemed to have something sensible to say (hopefully), “let me find a way to let us get a divorce without having to have a bad effect on my social life.”
“What do you mean?”
“I'm going to find a way to let this divorce benefit us both.” Once again, he checked the time on his watch, before turning back to probably get an answer from me.
“How long are we talking about?” My heart was starting to calm a little knowing he was willing to accept the divorce, and a breath I hadn't been aware I was holding, flowed out.
“About a year.”
“What?” My eyes widened. “A year?”
His shoulders lifted in a shrug, “after the divorce, I'll give you enough money to ensure you don't end up poor again, because that is sure to ruin my image.”
But I was still dumbfounded that he'd said an entire year.
“I'll take my leave then.” He turned like he hadn't said anything surprising, and just left.
He left!!!
***
I collapsed on the extremely soft queen sized bed I'd been opportuned to possess.
A year.
A year left till I got a divorce.
I'd already spent a year in the marriage, would it seriously hurt to spend an extra year.
Just one more.
Funny because if I was told a year ago that I'd be so chapfallen to spend an entire year with Henry, I'd have laughed at the person till they landed in their grave.
That was expected of every female.
Why?
Because this was Henry Smith we're talking about.
I mean, this was the world's most famous person.
His fame had begun when he was twelve.
At that young age, he won award of being the best and youngest basketball player and swimmer.
His skills was announced when he played basketball against Kobe Bryant and won.
Just for him to play against LeBron James, and literally won again.
The world exploded, and that was the start of his fame.
He grew up being known as a famous swimmer and basketballer.
Everyone had expected him to be an athlete when he grew up, but he ended up surprising us by being the first to create a phone that surpasses every other one used in the world today.
Yep, he built a phone that became way better than the Apple Iphone that was popular till the Henros phone arrived with the peace logo.
Every single soul used the Henros phone as it had great features than any other phone could possess.
That had made him even more cool.
Every female gawked at how hot he was and just like them, I would also drool like them.
And well, I ended up getting married to him.
How young and innocent I was at that time to not know what I was walking into.
We'd been married for an entire year and the entire year, I'd never felt like a married woman.
He was always cold and arrogant.
That was enough to remind me of his lack of feelings towards me.
I rarely ever saw him at home.
Sometimes I'd find out from a maid that he'd actually traveled to another country for a month and I didn't even know.
He rarely (almost never) ever talked to me.
I had to wait by the door today just to not miss him when he planned to move out.
Everything just always made me wish I hadn't ever fallen for him in the first place.
Little did I know then that I was falling into the devil's pit, because if arrogant and cold was a devil, then he was their boss.
Now, he no longer looked like that hot famous billionaire I'd fallen for. He was now a guy I wanted to escape from.
And in a year's time, I'd be free. Free from him.
Free from this marriage forever.
