Oh.
Ohh.
I was taken aback by his answer, and honestly, I didn't know how to react.
" D....do you want to talk about it S..sir ?" why am I talking this way? like if I was scared of him?
You are scared of him it's true, I am.
" just go sit there for a while " he mentioned to the sofa in front of his desk.
I just nod and sat right in front of him.
he kept working, and he never looked at me. I started feeling useless and bored and since he seemed a little calmer I decided to get up and leave.
" do not move one bit" came his commanding voice as I was about to stand up. Something in his voice compelled me to do as he asked.
I waited for a little while, but then I couldn't control my urge to speak.
" At some point of the day, I'll have to leave you to know"
"Just... Stay Emily" this time his voice didn't hold authority within it, it was weaker as if he was pleading with me. And for some reason, I felt like complying.
I think I spent like two hours in his office just sitting there doing nothing and watching him work, I didn't understand the purpose of me doing so, which means me doing nothing, how can that help him?
" Emily" a hand was gently shaking me. " Emily, wake up"
What? Did I fall asleep?
Opening my eyes I realized where I was and what I did I stood on my feet the second my eyes started to blink, and I guess my movement was too fast because the moment I was on my feet I felt so dizzy.
" Wow, slowly. Come here" he held my hand and made me sit on the sofa again. " Stay here, and take your time, when you feel better you can go have your lunch break." He took one last glance at me, then he left me alone in the office.
I was so mad at myself.
I can't believe I was stupid enough to sleep in front of him and his office. I'm so lucky he didn't fire me.
This is not how I imagined my professional life to be. I need to get a grip on myself. And so I stood up and straighten my clothes and I went out of the office. I didn't feel like talking to anyone, so for lunch, I just went to this restaurant nearby.
After lunchtime I went straight back to my office. Before getting inside, I glanced at his office but it looks like he wasn't there yet.
I started working on the pile of papers that somehow made its way into my desk I had to order them and manually copy some data that they contained into the system, I also had to check all the emails, check on the schedule, cancel some meetings, and organize some others. It may sound easy but this work took my whole time and luckily enough, all my thinking.
As I was indulged in my work, I didn't notice the form standing by the door, only minutes later. I turn around to find his eyes fixated on me
" I'm sorry sir, I didn't see you. Did you need anything?"
He kept quiet for a little while then opened his mouth
" It's already eight o'clock, you need to get going"
I looked at the window and sure enough, the night had settled in, I couldn't believe it was already that late.
" Come I'll give you a ride home"
I turned back to look at him and he was stretching his hand for me to grab it. I did but then his hand pushed me so hard I was about to collapse on his chest but I managed to regain my balance before that could happen.
"I... I'm going to call for a taxi, thank you" he kept looking at me again.
" That was not an offer, it was an order. Emily"
I was taken back for a moment given his determination, but he needed to know I was not someone who could be ordered.
" Well, given that it's past six, it means that I'm not in my working hours right now, which means you can't order me. So I'm taking a taxi. Sir"
I was happy, the shade of a triumphant smile was beginning to show on my face until he grabbed my arm and stopped me when I was only a second from crossing the door.
" I'm not ordering you as your boss" that's all he said before dragging me to the elevator.
" And I'm not taking no for answer" he added.
Then continue dragging me to his car.
I kept quiet because I knew that no matter what happens he will be giving me a ride home that night. But I also decided that it will be the last time he will.
