Chapter 3: Erica's interview with Dr. Lee had been intense, but she felt she'd done her best. He was a stern-looking man with a reputation for being brilliant, but tough. As she left his office, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. The interview had been grueling, but she was confident she'd done her best. Erica's heels clicked on the polished floor as she walked out of the conference room, her interview at Ravenswood Hospital finally over. She felt a mix of relief and anxiety, wondering if she'd get the job. The weight of the past few hours lifted off her shoulders, and she took a deep breath, letting the cool air fill her lungs. As she made her way down the hallway, she caught a glimpse of a girl staring at her from afar. The girl's eyes burned with an intensity that made Erica's skin crawl. Her face was twisted in a bitter scowl, and for a moment, their eyes locked. Erica quickly looked away, turning right into the next hallway. She tried to shake off the unease, but her heart was racing. She glanced back, but the girl was gone. Vanished. Erica's eyes scanned the hallway, searching for any sign of the mysterious girl. Where did she go? She stood frozen, her mind racing with questions. Suddenly, a hand touched her shoulder. Erica's heart skipped a beat. She spun around, her eyes wide with fear. "Ah!" She gasped, expecting to see the girl's bitter face. But instead, she found herself face-to-face with Nurse Amber, a kind-looking woman with a warm smile. "Sorry to startle you, Erica," Nurse Amber said, her voice gentle. "I just wanted to check on you. You looked a bit...distracted." Erica hesitated, unsure if she should share her strange encounter. But Nurse Amber's kind eyes put her at ease. "I...I thought I saw someone staring at me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Nurse Amber's expression turned serious, and she glanced around the hallway. "Oh, dear, I think you're just a bit overwhelmed. It's a lot to take in, isn't it? Ravenswood can be...a lot." Erica nodded, feeling a bit silly for overreacting. "Let me walk you out," Nurse Amber said, her tone firm. "It's almost time for my break anyway." Erica followed Nurse Amber, who chatted about the hospital's history and the staff. As they walked, Erica couldn't help but feel a bit better. Maybe she had just imagined the whole thing. They passed by the hospital's cafeteria, and Erica's stomach reminded her that she hadn't eaten since breakfast. "Would you like a coffee?" Nurse Amber asked, noticing Erica's glance. Erica hesitated, but Nurse Amber's warm smile put her at ease. "Yes, please," she said, following Nurse Amber to the cafeteria. As they sipped their coffee, Nurse Amber asked Erica about her background and interests. Erica found herself opening up, sharing stories about her family and friends. Nurse Amber listened attentively, her eyes sparkling with warmth. But as they chatted, Erica couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched. She glanced around the cafeteria, but everyone seemed engrossed in their own conversations. Nurse Amber noticed Erica's gaze and leaned in. "Don't worry, Erica. You're going to do great here. Just remember, I am rooting for you." Erica smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude. "Thank you, Nurse Amber. You've been so kind." Nurse Amber nodded and checked her watch. "I should get back to work. Let me walk you out." As they walked to the main entrance, Erica asked, "Nurse Amber, can I ask you something?" "Of course, dear," Nurse Amber replied. "What's the story behind Ravenswood Hospital? I've heard some...rumors." Nurse Amber's expression turned serious, and she glanced around the hallway. "Let's just say Ravenswood has a...complex history. But it's a great place to work, and the staff is wonderful." Erica nodded, sensing that Nurse Amber wasn't willing to share more. "Thanks for understanding," she said, smiling. Nurse Amber smiled back and handed Erica a small piece of paper. "Here's my number. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call." Erica took the paper, feeling a sense of connection to Nurse Amber. "Thank you, Nurse Amber. I really appreciate it." As Erica stepped out into the bright sunlight, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. The interview was over, and now all she could do was wait. As she walked to her car, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched. But she couldn't find any evidence of the mysterious girl or the strange note she'd found on her car seat. Maybe it was all just her imagination playing tricks on her. Erica took a deep breath, pushing the thoughts aside. She was just being paranoid. After all, who would want to hurt her? As she drove away from Ravenswood Hospital, Erica felt a sense of excitement and nervousness. She had a feeling that this was just the beginning of an incredible journey. Little did she know that her life was about to take a dramatic turn.
