FADING MEMORIES

Chapter 4: Erica walked into the apartment, feeling exhausted but relieved that the interview was over. She dropped her bag on the couch and headed to the kitchen, where the aroma of freshly cooked food wafted through the air. "Hey, I'm home!" she called out, spotting her roommate, Lily, sitting at the dining table, scrolling through her phone. Lily looked up, a bright smile on her face. "Hey, girl! How did it go?" Erica shrugged, flopping down into the chair across from Lily. "I think it went okay. Dr. Lee is intense, but I think I did my best." Lily nodded sympathetically. "I'm sure you did great. I made dinner, by the way. Chicken stir-fry, your favorite!" Erica's stomach growled in appreciation. "Thanks, you're the best!" As they dug into their food, Erica told Lily about her encounter with the mysterious girl at the hospital. Lily listened attentively, her expression changing from concern to amusement. "Girl, you need to get over it," Lily said, waving her hand dismissively. "It was probably just some gogo nurse or patient staring at you. Don't let it get you all worked up." Erica sighed, feeling a bit silly for even bringing it up. Maybe she was just being paranoid. Lily changed the subject, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "So, I met this guy today at the mall..." Erica's ears perked up, intrigued. "Oh? Tell me more!" Lily grinned, launching into a story about her encounter with a guy named Alex at a bookstore. Erica listened, happy to focus on her roommate's love life instead of her own weird experience. As they chatted, Erica couldn't help but feel grateful for her supportive roommate. Lily always knew how to make her feel better, and her carefree attitude was just what Erica needed after a long day. They lingered over dinner, chatting and laughing, as the evening wore on. Erica felt her tension melt away, pushing the mysterious girl and the hospital encounter to the back of her mind. For now, she was just happy to be home, surrounded by good food and good company. As they finished up, Lily's phone beeped, and she checked the message, her expression turning serious. "Everything okay?" Erica asked, noticing the change in her roommate's demeanor. Lily nodded, typing away on her phone. "Yeah, just Alex...I think I'm in trouble." Erica raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Spill the beans, girl! What's going on?" Lily looked up, a mischievous look in her eye. "Let's just say...I'm not sure if I'm ready for this." Erica laughed, knowing that look all too well. "Oh, Lily...you're in deep." As they cleared the table, Erica asked, "So, what's the plan for tomorrow?" Lily shrugged, "I thought we could hit the beach, maybe do some shopping." Erica nodded, feeling a sense of excitement. "Sounds like a plan to me." As they settled in for the night, Erica couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She glanced around the apartment, feeling a shiver run down her spine. Lily noticed her gaze and frowned. "Hey, you okay? You're looking a bit spooked." Erica shook her head, smiling. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit tired, I guess." Lily nodded, yawning. "Get some rest, girl. We've got a big day tomorrow." Erica nodded, heading to her room. As she changed into her PJs, she couldn't help but wonder what other surprises the night had in store for her. As she drifted off to sleep, Erica's mind wandered back to the mysterious girl at the hospital. She pushed the thought aside, telling herself she was just being paranoid. But as she fell asleep, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched. The next morning, Erica woke up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. She got dressed and headed to the kitchen, where Lily was already making breakfast. "Good morning!" Lily chirped, handing Erica a cup of coffee. Erica smiled, feeling grateful for her roommate. "Good morning! Thanks for the coffee." As they sat down to eat, Erica asked, "So, what's the plan for today?" "Are we hitting the beach or shopping? Lily grinned. " We are going to the beach." Erica nodded, feeling a sense of excitement. "Right, I think that's perfect." As they finished breakfast, Erica's phone beeped. She checked the message, her heart skipping a beat. It was an email from Ravenswood Hospital. Erica's eyes widened as she read the message. "Oh my gosh, Lily...I got the job!" Lily squealed, jumping up from her seat. "Congratulations, girl! We're going to celebrate!" Erica grinned, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. She was going to be working at Ravenswood Hospital. As they hugged and celebrated, Erica couldn't help but wonder what other surprises the future held for her.
