MARGARET  I took a deep breath and stood in front of Darlene’s door. The tray in my hands had two cups of tea. My hands were a little shaky, but I made sure my smile looked soft and sweet. I knocked twice. “Darlene?” I called out gently. After a few seconds, the door opened. Darlene stood there with a surprised look on her face. She didn’t say anything right away, just looked at me and then the tray in my hands. “I brought tea,” I said with a small smile. She blinked a few times. “Okay… come in.” She stepped aside. I walked inside slowly and placed the tray on the small table near her window. The room smelled like flowers. It was neat and quiet, just like Darlene.
