CHAPTER FOUR: REJECTION

1042 Words
The ceremony started with a speech by the Alpha of Red Moon pack who was invited, then gradually moved to the history of Skythia Empire and how the Five Kingdoms formed the Empire after the great war. The five Kingdoms include the werewolves, vampires, Witches, hunters, and Humans. They talked about the moon goddess and how she blessed the werewolves and the reason for the full moon ceremony……. My hair stood up on my body, and I knew Kian had arrived. I had an instant goose bump. My eyes found his, and I couldn’t help but marvel at how handsome he looked in his suit. Two buttons were undone, and he wasn’t wearing a tie, which added to his appeal. I felt his gaze wash over me and take me in. I blushed shyly, knowing he was watching me just as I was watching him. I held his gaze and saw fire in them, which made heat pool at my lower belly. His eyes turned suspiciously red, and before I knew it, it was all over, and he looked away. I sighed in disappointment and looked away, turning to see Anna and Abby watching our interactions and also Marcus who was staring with an evil smirk on 44. I turned my eyes as if I did not see their mischievous smiles. I couldn’t understand this feeling I had towards him. It was very frustrating. I turned around in time to see Marcus sit down; he looked equally stunning even though he was very annoying. I focused on the speech, and it was finally time for the dance. Rain and her gang stood up excitedly; I had to admit she looked stunning. The males formed one line, and the females formed another facing each other. My partner was a boy that I had not seen before; he gave me a smile, and I smiled back. I felt cold air around me. The orchestra began, and the dancing started. It was the standard waltz of the Skythia Empire, and we had to change partners every two minutes or so. I was shocked when Kian stood in front of me. I forgot how to act for a moment. I couldn’t believe it; my heart thumped loudly against my chest as his cold eyes looked at me. He looked utterly handsome under the light. “Freya,” he called, nodding his head at me before changing partners. I couldn’t say a word in reply; this was the first word he was saying to me. He also knew my name. I felt very warm and blushed, disregarding my new partner while I continued the dance. From the corner of my eye, I could see Marcus whispering to Anna, which made her blush hard, inciting a frown from my face. The dance was over, and we curtsied to each other. We all left the dance floor, marking the end of the ball as everyone went back to their rooms to change, especially the werewolves for easier transformation. I took a bath to wash off my sweat, then wore a simple dress that had buttons at the front with a little slit. Abby and Anna were nowhere to be found as I came back alone. I left the room, heading towards the little park to view the moon and make personal requests to the moon goddess. I sat on the wooden chair, taking in the fresh air. I suddenly felt at peace as everywhere was utterly quiet. I suddenly heard some rustling in the bushes, and my heart jumped. “Who is there?” I said calmly as I walked towards it. My eyes becoming brighter. I was already in a fight mode. “If you don’t come out…” My voice paused as I saw the tall figure suddenly standing before me. “Kian,” I wheezed out. Standing on my feet in surprise. “What are you doing here by this time?” He looked at me disapprovingly. “I wanted a little peace, the noise…. It’s startling and the moon is very bright,” I said, obviously angry at myself for answering his questions. I suddenly noticed his casual wear, and he was barefooted. The moon had risen very high and shone even brighter. I could feel the effect it had on me as I felt lighter. I saw his eyes changing continuously, which scared me, and I took a step backward. “Wait,” he grabbed my wrist, pulling me towards him. That one touch made me gasp out loud, and he felt it too as his hold on me became tighter. “Can you also feel this”, I instantly knew what he was talking about. The current between us twirling looking like it may spark at any moment. Our eyes locked and the whole melted away and it was just us. Suddenly, warm air was blown into my ear as he bit it gently. My body shook as if I was electrocuted, and I let out a small moan. His hands moved to my waist, sending a tickle to my heart. Two of my buttons became undone; his hands were very dishonest, and my knees felt weak. The cold air suddenly woke me up as I pushed him away, taking a shaky breath. “You can’t run; you are mine,” he declared, looking like a predator looking at his prey. His blue eyes had turned to red and I was then aware that I was in a dangerous situation. “I’m not yours. I can never be your mate,” I shouted with clarity. My words made him angry as he let out an angry snarl, his eyes turning completely red. I tried leaving but I was grabbed by him as he pressed on my shoulders. “What do you mean?” He asked, looking hurt and confused at my words. “If I accept you, I betray my clan,” my heart was pounding, my body shivering as if it knew the atrocity I was about to commit. “I, Freya Hunter of the Hunter Clan, reject you, Kian of the Red Moon Pack, as my mate.” All I felt was the excruciating pain on my neck before fainting.
