Arielle’s POV I was here. My plans could now be set in motion. But it was all the more reason I needed to guard my secret closely. I knew what Alpha Lucian could do, but I had no plans of letting him get through to me. Never. Not after what he did. Everything was strange, from the dominant red parading every corner I turned to, to the stoic expressions of the pack warriors stationed at strategic corners. They did not turn to look at me as I walked past them into the pack house, but I could feel their gazes on me. And when I moved past them, it felt like eyes were boring a hole into the back of my head. But I knew they wouldn't approach me. I was going to be their Luna, and they knew better than to get me upset on my first day here. The door groaned as I pushed it open, and even though I didn't know what to expect, it wasn't this. One of the warriors inside walked up to me and bowed slightly. “Alpha Lucian will be here shortly.” I nodded in response, but I didn't have to wait for too long before he came in. Even though I didn't lift my eyes, I knew he was in the room with me. There was a sudden change in the air, like some form of energy had descended, taking away all the joy and lightheartedness. I stilled myself for what I should have been prepared for, what I had no other option but to do. The first thing I noticed were his shoulders, broad and squared, and his head, held high like he knew the powers he possessed and how exactly to wield them. I knew so much about him, much more than he thought I did. And I knew the things to say, and not to say if I was going to survive being Luna of the Valor Claw Pack. Alpha Lucian paraded the huge living area like I was some piece of property ready to be put on auction. Maybe I was because I still wasn't ready to accept that I had just been betrothed to the most ruthless Alpha in existence. “Alpha Lucian.” His name came out like a question from my lips. “My foster parents said I was supposed to …” "I don't care about what your foster parents told you," he snapped, and I jumped back instantly. "From now on, you listen to me. Only me." I nodded at once. “I am to be your Luna. I was betrothed to you.” “When you put it that way, you make it sound like I personally fished you out,” he sneered, still keeping his electric blue eyes on me. Suddenly, he stopped pacing. Lucian’s jet black hair stood out and made his features look even fierce as he walked closer to me, peering his eyes. “Arielle Warren.” His voice was strong and carried through the room. "You are just a payment for a debt your foster payment owed me, so don't give yourself more credit than you deserve." “But…” “Yes, you are going to be my Luna. You are going to have to learn the ropes around here, and make sure you work according to the dictates of the Pack, which at the end of the day, are my dictates.” “But never forget,” he said as he stepped impossibly closer. “That you are the payment for a debt your lousy foster parents couldn’t repay. Are we clear on that?” It took everything in me not to take a step back in fright, but at the same time not to give in to my wolf as anger coursed through her. I tried to get her calm. This wasn’t the time to act. We needed to be patient. “Welcome to the Valor Claws Pack, Arielle.” I doubted that he meant that but I let him go on. “Everything has already been put in place to make your arrival and stay quite seamless. And the wedding will be…” “The wedding?” I scrunched my face in confusion. When my foster parents told me I had to get married to the Alpha of the Valor Claws Pack, I didn’t think talk about a wedding would take place immediately. "Yes, Arielle," Lucian nodded and looked at me like I was getting him pissed for my abrupt speaking. "Or did you expect something else?" I knew I shouldn’t contradict what the Alpha wanted, especially since he had made it clear that I was only a repayment for a debt. But I had to say something. “I thought I would be given time to get used to the pack first before the wedding. That would make me understand and appreciate the rite better.” A soft smile graced Lucian’s face so much so that I was surprised. It was strange that the hard expression on his face had suddenly changed into something soft. Or was I beginning to imagine things? “You wouldn’t need all that as long as I’m here,” he muttered, stepping away from my face just as I took a deep breath, filled with relief. “You just need to stay by my side and everything you have to do will become easy.” I nodded at once, knowing not to push it. I didn’t want to get thrown out so fast when I hadn’t accomplished what I came here to do. "The wedding will take place in two days after you get introduced to the body of staff at the university." Snap! I almost forgot that. I was already a lecturer before been asked to marry Alpha Lucian, and I was promised that I was going to lecture at Blackhill University here at Valor City. It was an uproot away from what I was used to, but as long as I got a little normalcy in my life, I was fine with it. I had something more important to focus on, and I needed to be smart about it.
